used to be everywhere
>>
Russian bots.
>>
they sell them at grocery stores. they still are everywhere just not at restaurants.
>>
The initial hype involved the idea that they were so good they would draw interest from demographics outside the vegetarians who buy veggie burgers. After the initial phase of market curiosity, it was confirmed there was no additional demographic. It's just the veggie burger crowd that has remained unchanged for decades.
>>
vegans refused to buy fast food impossible/beyond burger products because it's not enough that the entire patty be made of chemicals not of animal origin, no, you can't use the same grill to cook animal products either.
>>
>>22252525
That was marketing, no one was actually buying them. You are never going to succeed selling fake meat.
>>
>>22252546
there was some hype, but it quickly dried up when people realized it was just as unhealthy as regular meat and cost way more
>>
I love veggie burgers but if I'm buying a veggie burger I expect to pay substantially less than a beef burger
>>
>>22252525
The restaurant I work at still sells them. Not a ton, maybe 4-5 a day on average.
>>
>>22252525
I avoid going to restaurants that serve them (not too many anymore thankfully) because they absolutely reek while cooking and I can smell it even far from the kitchen.
>>
It's not even for vegans. That's why they put it next to the real meat. They wanted you to eat the bugs and live in the pods.

Vegans have their own little fake meat ghettoes in stores. Not right next to the real meat.
>>
>>22252525
The seared bite killed a few people so they had to shut down.
>>
>>22252576
The Impossible Whopper even came with mayo by default (eggs) and the buns were toasted with clarified butter. On the same grill they cook regular beef patties.
It was never about vegans.
Or even vegetarians.
It was aimed at retards and women, and it missed
>>
>>22252576
>They wanted you to eat the bugs and live in the pods.
Yeah at the time it seemed like it was solely supposed to demoralize people. Not just in a vague, "fuck you meat eater" way, but the idea that the loss of meat is inevitable, that everything that feels really and valuable is going to be replaced and you're powerless to stop it.

I agree with this >>22252582 that it was never about vegans, who just eat stuff not made of meat instead of trying to imitate a burger. But if that's true then it doesn't have any reason to exist because meat-eaters wouldn't have any reason to ever consume it. Which comes back to my first point that it was like a product that was solely released to demoralize people.
>>
>>22252525
they're still there, i eat one like 3-4 times/month and they're always available at restaurants
>>
Most fast food places didn't want to get a special griddle just for the vegans.
>>
>>22252525
It was impossible. Duh
>>
>>22252525
Wouldn't a nice roll with mushrooms, peppers, and onions taste better if you don't want to eat meat? There's no reason to emulate goyslop burgers.
>>
Plantslop patties are constantly on sale in my local shops. Usually because they're about to spoil.
No one wants it. Not even the holier-than-thou vegans and leftists.

>>22252702
This. I don't mind plant-based patties, but I'm going to make them myself.
>>
>>22252542
From their point of view they wouldn't buy vegan food from KFC because the money they give them still goes towards the slaughter of chickens
>>
>>22252525
Why does everything have to be AI slop? God, I hate you AI jeets.
>>
>>22252582
Its an attempt for soylent green. Where youre eating human remains if it ain't got a bone I'm not buying.
>>
>>22252525
They don't really taste that great. It tastes sort of meaty at first but after a while you get off flavors from the yeast and vitamins/minerals added to it. It's also not cheap. I actually like veggie burgers when they aren't trying to imitate meat so much.
>>
>Investment capitalists like the concept "Everyone loves Burgers, why not a Burger for Vegans!"
>People playing with millions and billions of dollars put money into "Burger but vegan" concept
>Nobody asks "if they wanted a burger, they'd just stop being vegan" instead imagining the vegan going "Praise Jah, now I too can enjoy a burger with my friends and family instead of being left out because my vegan ideology"
It's literally rich idiots taking bad dad jokes about vegans and investing hundreds of millions into it to advertise, feature and eventually fail at selling burgers to people who'd have just eaten a burger if they wanted to, but since the 90s there have been bad dad comedians going "Vegans are weird and crazy... you know me I like Burgers. How do vegans go on without cheeseburgers, like maybe Moby would suck less if he ate a burger"
A tale as old as Reaganomics.
>>
>>22252581
lost
>>
>>22252525
They're still everywhere, you just got used to seeing them and the culture war moved on to telling you to be blood pressure popping enraged about something else so you're never reminded of them.
>>
>>22252525
It was just another Wall Street pump-and-dump scam.
> advertising blitz to tell everyone how great this garbage is
> partnerships with restaurants and grocery stores to push this crap
> do an IPO and sucker in all the fools who think people are going to eat the shit
> cash out all Wall Street's shares, leave the trash paper in the hands of retail fools
> stop bothering to force it into the public consciousness and let everything crash
wa-la

They do this with goddamn near every food stock. I've seen it happen a dozen times at least.
>>
>>22252811
It's not just food. Average daytraders are typical follow the leader fools who can be convinced that anything is the next big thing. It's why Lower Manhattan and the subway are coated in AI Buzzword heavy Ads that treat words like "Agentic" like they're normal words everyone uses.
>>
>>22252525
impossible to sell.
>>22252716
and they couldn't look down their nose far enough to see, hence why it was named impossible.

this image unironically did irreparable damage to the fake meat trend.

>AI is a bubble!
Been hearing this since 2023 and since then every single mid-sized or larger company has been demanding more compute.
>>
>>22252906
Yeah, and a lot of these companies are also-rans that will go the way of AskJeeves or BrewDog a few of them will consolidate and become part of the world.
But it's good to remember that most people see REO Speedwagon as a shitty rock band and not a car company.
The Craft Beer bubble burst, but that doesn't mean I can't get an IPA at any bar or grocery store in America. Vegan substitutes and AI aren't gonna disappear, but their value and volume is gonna significantly reduce.
>>
Normies don't want it because it's garbage, vegfags, avid garbage eaters, don't want it, because it's sold in meat spaces or whatever
>>
>>22252547
Regular meat isn't unhealthy. Stop spreading lies.
>>
>>22252832
Guy on the right really should have wore some color contacts that day he looks like such a soulless void

Side-hustle to Larry Fink type funny money, because birth control and MKULTRA media equivalents aren't enough for the Baal Gates of the world.

looks even more retarded
>>
>>22252777
Waste of digits. No veganism is significantly less popular than its peak in the mid 2010s. It's still sold but it's share of the shelf is miniscule now. Reasons being: vegans especially vegan men are perceived as weak and malnourished, it is verified chemical slop and the current food trend is being anti synthetic, and it's expensive in the middle of an affordability crisis.
>>
>>22252525
It failed. It costs x10 more money to lab synthesize "meat" than it would be to just chop up a cow. I think Ted Ed or Sci-Show on youtube covered the specifics. Go look it up.
>>
>>22252525
People tried it out of curiosity and then moved on to the next trend. Might have had some staying power if it was significantly cheaper than real meat.
>>
>>22253122
lmao
>>
>>22252528
Odd too, COVID proved that when everything was empty this nasty shit was still well stocked.
>>
>>22252525
people remembered black bean burgers taste better and arent mystery lab frankenfood

Got a hankering for burgers because of this thread so I made a Beyond + portobella burger. Used a balsamic mustardy marinade for the 'shrooms

How many of those 4-5 are white women.
>>

they sound like fuckin muslims or something
>>
>>22252525
it was a fad. people tried it went "meh" and back to eating real food.
>>
>>22252525
Had a couple from White Castle - actually very tasty. Was like eating something made principally of fully oversaturated cardboard whose juices contained heroic amounts of MSG.

Had the one from Burger King also. Tasted great, very much like you'd expect a whopper to, but it just had a very odd texture. If you're not wanting to eat meat for whatever dumb reason, it could be fine if you're craving a burger.
>>
>>22252525
>>22252528
The impossible burger was created so vegans/vegetarians could say "see here's a perfect substitute for meat, why don't YOU eat it"; they never wanted it in the first place.

>jacobin.com

>paywalled
topkek, the most leftist fucking communist website in existence is paywalled.
>>
>>22255469
>leftism is when no money
It is kinda retarded of them, though. You should only have a paywall when your views are the majority. Also you're extremely retarded and sheltered if you think Jacobin of all things is remotely the most communist website.
>>22255236
On the contrary, I think the purpose is to make money.
>>
I thought I liked it but had some recently and it's just not good. Some vegetarian stuff is alright like veganaise, I actually like it more than mayo. But for meat there's just nothing like the real deal.
>>
>>22255469
>topkek, the most leftist fucking communist website in existence is paywalled.
Oh nice, mutt ideologic rant, fuck off.
>>
>>22252525

It was a jew/indian hindpoo rape rat scam to get us to eat less beef and transition us over into eating bugslop. First there's the transition to plant based meats, then they tell you even plants take up too much resources and you need to eat ze bugs.
