I got a pork shoulder and want to make slow cooker carnitas, any recipe or tips?

Cook it with orange juice and seasonings and rehydrate some dried chillies with it like ancho chillies. When you pull the shoulder out take the sauce it was in and reduce it. Finish the meat using the broiler for 3 or 4 minutes to crisp it up. Make sure you watch it carefully in the broiler.

Broiler is not needed. It's a nice touch but not done down south.
>>
Tip: try your best

I usually sear all surfaces in a cast iron pan, just brown the shit out of it. It's not necessary but adds a bit of depth to the meat. I use a whole naval orange just cut in half and cooked with the pork. Add in a quartered onion too. I usually add some msg, liquid smoke, and either dried chipotle/ancho/arbol/whatever peppers or a can of chipotle peppers in adobo sauce. Whatever other spices that go into a carnitas too. Let it all simmer on low for 8 hours.

Shred the pork at about hour 7. Let it absorb some of the juices again then put the shreds into a hot cast iron pan and some butter. Get a crispy crust on it then make a burrito/bowl/taco. There's going to be a decent amount of liquid, you can kinda drain with a slotted spoon and serve without crisping too.

cram it up your asshole

Every person of carnita on youtube says to brown it in the oven/broil it, or brown in a pan.

>slow cooker carnitas
Kinda gross, you're better off making pulled pork in a slow cooker. The best part of carnitas is frying it in the rendered fat after the water cooks down.

>durr you cant put the meat under a broiler after
Dumb retard
>>
>>22255509
It's literally not the same but you do you maricon.
>>
>>22255526
Not the same as slow cooking it in the oven? Lol
>>
>>22255528
A slow cooker is inherently different, carnitas are made on the stove though.
>>
>>22255531
>inherently
>>
>>22255531
Braised or roasted pulled pork is inherently different than braised and then roasted pulled pork
>>
>>22255537
Ah, now I understand where the confusion is coming from lmao.
Slow cookers don't allow much evaporation, which makes sense because they are made to set before you leave for work and don't want the house to burn down.
>>
>>22255550
I don't understand why you would want evaporation, you want the meat to braise in it's fat and not dry out. So tell me hombre what isnso inherently different cooking in a pot over the stove and cooking it in a slow cooker.
>>
>>22255557
You don't just don't get it gringo, it's inherently different esse.
>>
>>22255557
>>22255629
You want all the flavors in the meat, really not too hard to understand that. Slow cookers get to like 80c max. They are great for stews and other meals with sauces. Carnitas are meant to be crisp and are only dry if you over cook it.
>>
>>22255677
>slow cook all day in fat and spices
>crisp up under the boiler
Holy frijoles jaun, you have no idea about cooking holmes
>>
I prefer making it in a Dutch oven than a slow or pressure cooker. I dunno what the difference is but I feel like there's a difference.
>>
>>22255759
Nice dry 'nitas puto :c)
I will enjoy the superior product like my tia makes, thank you very much.
>>
>>22255798
>ladle the drippings over before you broil
>ladle the drippings after cooking and rest it
Man you beans really don't know how to cook.
