I had a mcrib for the first time today. It was alright, the sauce was okay tasting, sweet and smoky with an offtaste you expect from fast food sauces, pork patty equally mediocre, it was at least moist and had some pork flavor, and the pickles and onions give it some texture and tang, but overall it's not that great. just can't believe mcrib has so much mythos and passion just because it's a regular limited time offering. if they made this a regular menu item it would be gone within 1-2 quarters

You can buy BBQ pork patties in a box at the store. We actually had them served to us often when I was a kid at school. Probably the reason I never gave a shit about mcribs. I ate 800 of them in school.

I like the source because it's not pure sugar like some bbq sauces, it's actually kind of tangy and vinegary and goes so nicely with the onyo and pickles.

I'm looking forrad to whenever it comes back to Aus. I always get one per release, usually every 3 years which means this summer might be it
>>
>>22266953
the pickels and onions on it make it disgusting
it tastes way better without them

Who decided that pickles go on a pork sandwich?

they don't sell bbq porquerib in australia so we have to wait 3-4 years between mcdonald's releases :[

Kwik trip has a better Kwik rib. I load it up with onion and pickled jalapenos and feel terrible after eating it
>>
>>22266953
It can be much better or worse depending on the restaurant, honestly. I have a friend who owns a couple of McDonalds (admittedly in more upper class areas), and theirs are a lot better than other places. Even still, they're largely more disappointing than you always look forward to.

These aren't really the same, but I get it.

they actually are.

It's an understandable substitute even if the correlation isn't very strong
>>
>>22266953
I thought it was just a meme. I tried one and it reminded me of the worst of school cafeteria food.
>>
>>22266983
If you wanted to make one at home it's probably just very finely ground cheap as shit pork formed into a party with dextrose added and... steamed, probably? Although frying or baking would make a better product than McDonald's.

The mcrib patty is pure pork instead of pork, chicken, and fillers. It's close enough and honestly I don't find the mcrib to taste that great anyway. It's mostly just a chewable object covered in barbecue sauce.
>>
>>22267011
I have just added ground pork, pickles, onions, and sweet baby ray's to my next shopping list so I can make these at home.

The real secret to tender pork patties is adding some powdered gelatin and water to the mix, makes it super moist and succulent. I will not be able to get authentic buns but when I do this I will report back with OC

I might some time this weekend seems like a fun little thing to do. Too bad my local store doesn't sell lean pork though they only have 85/15
>>
>>22266953
>offtaste you expect from fast food sauces
Speaking of which, what is up with that? I would assume it's either the preservatives or the dyes they use, because those are about the only thing ingredients-wise that are different.
>>
I just got back from shopping and bought all the ingredients needed to make Cribs at home. I will be making them today and will rapport back with a quick cook-a-long and results

that's kind of what happened. the mcrib is seasonal precisely because it failed as a permanent menu item.

Well the bun of course isn't aw-ten-teek, the patty doesn't have the same flavour or texture as the real thing, but a meat patty and BBQ sauce is always going to be good. Pickles and onions are essential. Not bad, will enjoy these today. Might not do it again.

It's a regular menu item in Germany because it has always sold well there.
>>
>>22267421
I was surprised to see this when I was in Germany, so I bought one. The sauce is a little different from the one in here in the US...it's a little less sweet and smokey...more vinegary

real mcrib patties are actually unseasoned. they don't have any seasoning at all except salt and dextrose. and theyre made out of meat paste so to get the texture right you have to run ground pork through a food processor until it's smooth. rosemary extract isn't a seasoning it's a preservative.
>>
>>22269790
yeah I can't make pink slime at home and all i really added was salt (little pepper that I couldn't taste and a little sugar I couldn't taste). I did what I could and it was a quality couple meals

These are fucking terrible, don't fall for it.
As mediocre as a McRib is, it's at least not offensive. Take away the bbq sauce and the McRib patty is almost flavorless. These tiny OnCor patties are nasty by comparison and the sauce is also garbage compared to what McD uses.

Avoid!

>>22267292
Good job anon.
>>
I heard that the actual patties were invented by the us army to feed troops easily. That seems like a red flag
>>
The McRib is a mossad bio weapon being used on the American people
