That seems like a great way to cut yourself.
>>
Happy for you and I'm sure she'll like it, but yikes.

Why yikes?
>>

I saw a video about how those are produced and it's pretty involved. Cool gift. How much did that one cost?

Holy poorfag

The guy made it for $200 and it took about two weeks to complete

Not a bad deal for one made with a 3D effect technique, especially considering it was a custom order.

Looks nice. The design is relatively tasteful as far as these things go.

$42 on eBay. End grain cherry and walnut. 1 1/2" thick, with rubber feet.
>>
Protip: don't cut onions on your nice end grain cutting boards. They absorb the smell and your entire kitchen will fucking reek. I learned this the hard way. It is very difficult to get the smell out.
I now put a paper plate on mine when I cut onions.
>>
>>22269454
bad alignment and the design is a different aspect ratio to the bias, made worse by the channel routed through the design on some sides but not others.
>>
>>22269348
i make may own end grain out of scrap hard wood. it costs me a few beers and a friday night.
imagine being a cuck and buying cutting boards. might as well just let jamal fuck your wife.

I'm not about to slam my nice knife down on a paper plate with hard countertop underneath it.
>>
>>22269514
Nigga how aggressively are you cutting onions?
>>
>>22269521
I mean sometimes if you go a few days between buying the onion and cutting it the dry outer layer gets kinda thick and it takes a bit of force to cut through it and you can end up cutting through it a bit more aggressively than you meant to.
Or maybe I just lack skill.
Yeah it's probably that.
>>
>>22269495

I was definitely looking at it differently. I see what the creator was going for. Maybe it doesn't work out so well for this particular pattern. The parts in red were the be the ends. The part in the green is the main repeating pattern. the parts in green should have been a different pattern entirely because at the bottom it can look like the pattern got messed up abruptly.
>>
>>22269612
>The parts in red were the be the ends.
were to* be the ends
>>
>>22269472
Oil your board more.
Mineral oil is cheap and works absolutely fine.
>>
>>22269616
I took that when I first bought it.
I have since oiled the fuck out of it with cheap mineral oil from Walmart.
>>
>>22269616
>>22269619
Oh, was assuming you replied to the image of mine.
No, onions made my board reek after I oiled the fuck out of it.
>>
>>22269472
>>22269620
I once took an old cutting board I had made and tried repurposing the wood by turning it on a lathe. The smell reminded me of rank onions in particular and it never came out.
>>
>>22269348
>for the wife

Is that one of those narcissistic male gifts where you say its for your wife but coincidentally you will be using it and you are OK with the design and of course you are thinking of what you'll be using the cutting board for when your wife forgets it was even hers because technically despite it being a gift, you paid for it.

Yeah, you're an asshole.
>>
>>22269525
your knife isn't sharp
>>
>>22269732

>>
>>22269734
ok your knife that struggles to cut onions is very sharp my bad
>>

I mean it cuts paper.

I won't get a nice cutting board until I live with people who I know won't use it. Same with nice knives. What about "this is my shit and that's your shit" doesn't compute with people?
>>
>>22269375
It stains like fuck (there are dark ones available though) but doesn't get fucking rekt by knives like the other plasticky types and overall works pretty well
Not sure I'd recommend it over a decent quality wooden one though

couldn't have said it better myself
this cutting board is obviously designed by someone who does not prepare food on a cutting board themselves. you may think it's a joke haha or an easy thing to obviously see the planar surface "as-is" and not have any optical confusion, but this is immediately invoking an illusory depth when i look at it, which is very dangerous for controlled cutting
have to agree with the first poster, this is a bad idea for a cutting board, but a good idea for a framed art piece.

If you have to look at what you're cutting you should get out of the kitchen.
Cutting safety is based on technique and muscle memory. A patterned board is merely kitchen aesthetics and has zero impact on safety.

A couple of years ago my mom asked me to come by to sharpen her knives.
And I couldn't believe how blunt they were. How evenly blunt they were. Across the entire length of the edge.

I thought maybe she had ran them across a steel pipe or something, fuck them up on purpose, so I would come visit. I asked for her to show me the cutting board she'd been using.

And she pulled out a sheet tempered glass, with little rubber feet, and a purple & green grape cluster printed on the underside.

"Why are you using this thing as a cutting board? It's 100% going to wreck your knives."
"Oh I just like the picture of grapes."
>>
>>22272692

>>
>>22271972
These do not cost much, those prices hardly even pay for an hour of work for someone qualified to run the CNC.

The software is likely vibecoded. Run three types of wood through the CNC, lego it together and put it in the glue up rig. Next day throw the glue up through the planer twice, sanding, oil it up, mail.

Nice side-gig, honest price. Though I'd charge more for having to deal wit customers.
>>
>>22272961
>vibecoded
>cnc
>lego
lmao
>>
>>22272981
Even without CNC, it's still going to be done hundreds of pieces at a time. You're not going to start fresh for every board. A single board has to be just legoing the pieces together from a couple of buckets of ready made pieces. Glue. Plane. Route. Oil. Mail.

If they have to put more than two hours total into a single board, they'd be better off waging.
>>
>>22272393
You do realize they're probably softer than his knives, right?
