I went overboard this year
But my neighbors are try hards on the decorations, so i always get hella candy to compensate
Already heard I’m the best house from a bunch of 10yr olds

I don't get nearly as many trick or treaters as I used to. I feel like last year there was a 50% decrease in trick or treaters and this year feels the same. I had so much leftover candy from last year, even though it was the same amount I always buy

Why is this happening?
>>
Im keeping a tally so far there’s been 20 Trick or treaters but oddly enough zero for the past half hour
>>
>>22269486
I would say prior to 2024 my average was probably 150-170 in total with 2018 probably being the biggest year. But post 2025 its more like 60-80.

Ive got i think 11 so far. Last few years we had about 30. Hopefully we get a lot more. Seems slow this year.
>>
>>22269504
Do you have trunk or treat in your area? I suspect this is one of the many reasons why Trick Or Treating seems to be dying off.
>>
>>22269481
My guess, the kids in your neighborhood aged up. I’ve been in my same house for 20yrs, we had like a 3-5yr stretch of very little traffic.
The last 4yrs have been crazy though, it’s been fun
>>
>>22269517
Trunk n treats are so lame, i think they’re part of the problem too
>>
>>22269517
I have no idea.
>>
>>22269434
I've gotten 0 so far. Last year I had a couple drop by by now.
>>
>>22269519
Honestly I don't really care. If I had kids I'd probably take them to trunk or treat. Im sure they'd have the same find memories that we had as kids trick or treating. But with trunk or treat instead. I really don't think it's a huge deal, unless you don't have a car. But it is still sad to see trick or treating dying off.
>>
>>22269434

I can’t imagine a trunk n treat lasting the 3 hours of neighborhood walking.
And, it was always more fun to be independent with your friends!

>>
Yeah for me anyway my fondest memories of Halloween was roaming around with my buddies once we were old enough to be allowed out on our own - even way back when they used to have “mall trick or treating” for the paranoid people and youd just go around from shop to shop
>>
>>22269572
> mall trick or treat
That does sound more fun than parking lot
>>
I put out some Sour Patch Kids but I don't really expect anyone. It's also been raining on and off.

I feel like all of the kids trunk or treat, or just go to the super rich neighborhoods like my parents' where they hand out full sized candy bars.
>>
>>22269434
My wife went to work with the keys to the other car. The kids and I watched ghostbusters and Im feeding them random sweets Im finding in the back of the cabinets. Everyones less upset than I feared.

That's a mighty fine selection. There's something for everyone. The sticky slappers and fangs are a really nice touch. I loved the slappers as a kid.
>>
>>22269532
walking to 15 cars in a parking lot is not the same as walking around a neighborhood at night with all the halloween decorations up and it never will be.

Starting to think my neighbors who bring their kids to every house on the block but mine are harboring some sort of mixed feelings toward me
>>
>>22269607
Is your porch light on? And is your yard unkempt?
I’m mostly being nosy
>>
Update: all the toys are gone, and I’m done to m&ms on the chocolate side. Still wore a few suckers, gummies, airheads etc.
Almost all the twizzlers are left lol
>>
Ok so I guess the nights over. Had 14 kids. Im pretty sure some kids just skipped my place. Idk why, I have the porch lights on, they're even milit colord lights, and the light in the entryway on. Maybe I needed decorations.
>>
>>22269637
Sucks bro but their loss
>>
28 total for me. Close to what I expected to get although it seems like every year I’m surprised by how front loaded the rush is - only 8 of the 28 were after 6pm
>>
>>22269434
I had 12 kids come by. That being said, my neighborhood is kind of remote so we don't tend to get many trick-or-treaters. Still, I always buy the full-sized bars to reward the handful of people who venture out this far.

>>

Been doing that for a decade. Little shits getting dropped by the bus load, lines of cars, hay rides and goes for hours. Burned through $200 of candy in 30 minutes and haven't done it since.
>>

>>

I think some people were using social media trick or treat maps this year, my house got passed several times too
>>
>>22269756
Frankly the nearest to nowhere in NC. But apparently I moved to what I later found out was "the nice" neighborhood so surrounding churches and kids from other nearby subdivisions all specifically come out here.
>>
>>22269786
Lights on should be enough imo, I’m not going to mess with logging into a website to say I have candy
>>
>>22269786
That’s crazy, didn’t know people were mapping shit.
I saw kids skip the houses with no decorations desu, which is lame, i never did that. I never decorate either, would rather invest in candy.
I have dogs, so every year i sit in my driveway by the candy bowls though. Hard to miss

>>22269791
That’s cool, I’m sorry that it bothers you but sounds awesome to me!
I really love Halloween, it’s just one day of low-stakes fun time. And i like seeing all the costumes and freaking love candy myself.
I guess if you live near the churches and whatnot they probably do things throughout the month, that’s probably annoying too
>>
Lights off :) only got one trick or treater last year anyway. The game is over. You get more candy at the trunk or treats or church events anyway.

Oh that is a bummer. I’m in Indiana, so we had plenty of cooold Halloweens to brave. Not very many where it was actually down pouring though.

Previously lived in a very large development (easily 4x this one) and that same amount of candy would have lasted with some left. When your talking dropping $600+ on candy to cover and it's not even the neighbors little shits knocking about that did it in for me.

I bought three costco bags this year because last year two bags wasn't enough.
I've only had 4 and a baby come by during the afternoon, gave each kid a big handful and I still have this much left.
It's almost 11PM now, I don't think any more people will show up. It makes me feel awful and I'm worried if the current economic situation killed their interest in celebrating Halloween this year.
>>
>>22269844
A parent that’s lets the economy rain on a holiday like Halloween is just ashitty parent. Straight up go to goodwill, and let your kid get free candy
But anyway
I blame trunk n treats or aging out

>>22269579
I got at least half of the bucket I put out taken, which is nice! Unexpected. It would have been neat to sit out and see some costumes. I at least feel good about getting something this year and kids going out.
>>
>>22269840
Fair enough!
I’ve always planned and budgeted for candy, I’d love to have $600 to spend on it. I always wish i had the money and time to do cool decorations or a haunted house like some of my neighbors!
Don’t get me wrong, not judging you for not participating in an area like that. I’m kind of a nerd for the holiday, can’t expect everyone to be
>>
>>22269844
I saw a news blurb that mentioned people buying less chocolate in favor of cheaper non-chocolate Halloween candy this year. If you still want it to go to kids maybe donate some of it to a local Boys and Girls club (assuming they’re allowed to accept it)
>>
>>22269807
Fucking loser
>>
>>22269855
Interesting
I’ll see if donating the candy is an option, i hate wasting it
>>
I've never seen my neighborhood this dark before. Everyone turned off their lights super early. Trick or treating is dead, at least in this neighborhood.
>>
ONE fucking kid showed up
Wasted $19.91, fuck halloween, kids and their parents suck now
>>
>>22269914
The cost of candy blew my mind. I got a reasonably small bag of Sour Patch Kids, and it was $14. I don't really like candy, especially not chocolate, so I tried to get something I'd maybe have one or two of later. This is all gonna eventually go bad.
>>
>>22269909
>>22269914
Truly a bummer
During the slow years in my neighborhood, i only bought candy i liked so I could at least enjoy it
>>
>>22269914
You get WAY more candy and it's safer taking your kids to trunk or treats or whatever they call them now
>>
>>22269938
They’re also way more lame. Assuming you live in a subdivision and not apartments or something
How do you know you get more candy at a trunk n treat?
>>
>>22269956
Because when I was a kid I did regular trick or treating and later my parents took me to the church trunk or treats and I got WAY more candy at the church events than going door to door.
>>
>>22269919
Just give it away. Surely you know someone who would take a large bag of candy for free. If you have a vacuum sealer you can just vac it and it literally will not go bad. The only thing that could even happen is that it dries out. Hell just put it in a ziploc bag and it'll be good for a year.
>>
>>22269958
My neighborhood has always been generous, i see why you’re so into the lamest version
>>
>>22269977
It's neighborhood by neighborhood apparently ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
>>
>>22269980
The neighborhoods go through cycles too.
I would like to think i contribute to the continuous culture of generosity over the years, but during slow years i wonder how everyone else handled it.
>>
>>22269434
not 1 kid down my street. Going on like 10 years now. Driving home around 7pm I only saw one group of trick or treaters in the neighborhood. Didn't have candy anyway. If one happened to come by the would have received the choicest Top Ramen.
>>
>>22269572
>>22269592
Yeah, my favorite part of Halloween was speed running my neighborhood to go to the others and meet up with friends as well.
What’s the point of running around a parking lot you can see the end of?

Anyone store cheap Halloween chocolate in the freezer? I'm thinking about buying up some of the clearance stuff but I don't eat that often. Can't think of any reason why the freezer would be bad for "fun size" candy bars.

Frankford must have some weird people doing their product development, they always seem to try to fill a niche that doesn’t appeal to me.

>>22272960
I’ve stored milk chocolate bars in the freezer with no problems. I haven’t done stuff that has nougat but I’d assume that’s fine too, less sure on flaky stuff like Butterfinger. Normally the best by dates on Halloween chocolate are pretty far out
