Chicken and leek. Or, if I'm feeling indulgent, a cold pork pie with Colman's
>>
I prefer when they have mash on top instead of a crusty bread topping
>>

steak bacon and cheese for me

prefer a home made shepherds pie over one from a pie shop

They're great, you should try one.

I'm too traditional to bend rules like that and chicken is inferior to beef.

Either the steak and mushroom or the pepper steak, depending on how I'm feeling. That gravy like filling just hits different man. The beef mince pies are also pretty good, but they tend to slop out the moment you bite em, means I'll only get them if there's no proper steak pie.

>>22271848
Nothing wrong with a good chicken pie mate, nice creamy flavour, good texture.

I've seen things like frozen pot pie and cherry pie, but we dont really do savory pies here, and there are certainly no dedicated pie shops.

We have those in certain states but it's not eaten nationwide. Where I live, you can get empanadas at hispanic joints that are sorta similar.

With that many food items, you might as well order anything. It's highly unlikely they're going through the effort of making everything taste distinct, everything probably uses the same 2-3 kinds of fillings

Is lamb really this expensive in America? Still taking the lamb and mint
>>
>>22272203
>Is lamb really this expensive in America?
Yes. Lamb and mutton aren't commonly eaten here, so it's more expensive and not as widely available as beef, chicken, and pork.
>>
>>22272203
I don't think that's America. We don't use "mince." I don't think it's Australia either or they would be higher dollar. Canada maybe?
>>
>>22272210
It could be one of those niche British places you see sometimes in large cities that try way too hard to sound authentic. I could see them using mince in place of ground meat. Even then I think the price would be a bit higher than what is listed in the OP.
>>
>>22272212
I just noticed "courgette" also. But then they use eggplant instead of aubergine. What the fuck is this place?

It's hard to pick. Usually cherry though. At least this time of year it'll be all pumpkin pie though.
>>22271935
In America, our pies really are just for dessert and the only common exceptions are either a chicken pot pie or Shepard's pie. We have stuff like pasties and rolls, but they're more regional. Pepperoni rolls were the first most similar thing to pop into my head and I love those things.

Oh yeah the "Kumara" pie should have been a clue.
That's Maori talk. In Australia we call them "sweet potatoes" like normal people

If a place could make a good shepherds pie it would skyrocket. The best shepherds pie is always made at home. I've never had a good one at a restaurant.

From that? Probably steak, cheese, and bacon.
Seriously, why aren't meat pies more popular? They fucking rule.

I have a question about this. Are UK meat pies basically the same kind of deal as a chicken pot pie? Or are they fundamentally different things. I always assumed they were a lot more dense and solid. Whereas a standard US-style pot pie is a bit gooey and wet.

Speaking of, I have a pretty solid chicken pot pie recipe that I haven't made in a while. I should bang one out this week (always be careful with the thyme!)
>>
>>22272775
>Are UK meat pies basically the same kind of deal as a chicken pot pie?
Similar but not quite. American chicken pot pies seem to contain loads of veg and British ones don't (maybe a few peas) just chicken and sauce and they tend to be thicker, a bit like >>22271868

OPs pies are New Zealand, I have no idea about those but I assume they are similar to ours.
>>
>>22272790
>American chicken pot pies seem to contain loads of veg
Yes. Too much IMO. I always dial it back and just use potatoes and corn. Maybe a tiny amount of carrot.
>>
Sweet: rhubarb, peach or peach-rhubarb.
Savoury: pork pie or chicken-and-mushroom. Pastel ayam, if hand pies count.
>>
I used to eat chili beans beef pie with cheese it was great. I've since gone off meat pies though they always put disgusting chewey bits of low-grade meat in them. >>22271837 creamy garlic mushroom sounds great though I've never had a proper mush-filled pie.

Our only dedicated pie shop where i live in Aus is Jesters Pies but they're virtually all beef or chicken. But there's a place about 2 hours drive from here they do Award Winning Garlic Prawn Pies very nice.
