i've been doing it for about two years now and getting a bit better but still doing the same recipe more or less. i cook maybe once or twice a week and then for the rest of the days order stuff or eat random shit or get food from elsewhere

i like the feeling of getting better and decreasing the time and effort i have to put in, but it still feels like a chore. i calculate in my head "today i'll have to put 1,5 hours of my free time into feeding myself" (includes cleaning the kitchen first and after), i constantly worry about ingredients going bad. i don't even use butter in any of my cooking because it goes bad faster than i use it up (i even cut it into pieces and freeze most of it and that still ends in waste). i forget to buy ingredients on the weekend when i go grocery shopping, i also don't buy new things to try because i don't want to spend time researching what to make and what to look for because i'd rather spend my free time on other things or i'm too exhausted.
i worry about my nutrition because what i cook isn't very varied. i never make salad.
it's also doesn't seem particularly cheaper than takeout food, it definitely isn't when also factoring in the time and effort it takes.

if i cooked every day, perhaps i can avoid some of the issues like ingredients going bad, and learn faster and get to a point where it's more effortless and more worth it.
the other option is giving up and doing takeout for the rest of my life. move somewhere where i can find a large variety of it easily near me.
have you had similar experiences while learning to cook?

what kind of butter rots in the freezer. what the fuck is this post???
>>
>>22274743
i mean the part that i take out into the fridge
and would you eat butter that's been in the freezer for 3 years?
>>
>>22274726
You should learn to cook
>>
>>22274726
What do you normally cook and what do you like to eat?

>>22274745
How long would a pound of butter last you?
>>
>>22275203
either ground beef or chicken breasts, with onion and bell peppers and/or tomatoes. tomato paste and spices. add noodles or rice.
don't know about the butter, i might use it on frozen peas
>>
>>22274726
I'm not reading all of that, but if you don't enjoy cooking then you probably shouldn't bother. I'm not a particularly good cook but I like doing it, maybe with a glass or two of wine, and isn't that what life's about?
>>
>>22274726
>if i cooked every day
>the other option is giving up and doing takeout
you could try cooking less often but making bigger batches of food that will last multiple days. a lot of people do that. if i make pizza or pasta i usually don't get sick of it and don't mind eating it for multiple days. if i make beans then i'll just cook them plain and reheat them with whatever flavorings i want.
>>
>>22275308
i do it for multiple days. i suppose i meant every 3 days or so rather than once a week
>>
>>22274745
What do you put on your sandwich if it takes you three years to get through a stick of butter

No reason to cook for yourself these days in this golden age of wealth. Leave it to the professionals who dedicate their lives to it. Life is too short.
>>
>>22275670
that's basically what i thought
>>
>>22275942
There are people on this very board that are so unintelligent or bored that they invest massive amounts of time trying to learn how to cook and just for themselves. They aren't even in the food industry.
>>
>>22274726
Ok retard
>>
>>22275977
you're probably joking but the reason restaurants exists is because economy of scale is a thing.
it is overall more efficient for everyone to have one person specialize and cook for many and spend effort optimizing time/cost than it is for every single person to cook for themselves. that's how it always was, a person cooks while others hunt or war or develop or do whatever other more important thing. one person in the family cooks for others. do you have a family? are you going to have one? i'm not. so why bother?
>>
This "anti-cooking" thread is fucking pathetic. None of you posers are "generating wealth". None are too good to cook for yourselves.

It's nothing but embarrassing if you can't cook. It's not about your time being more valuable. Pathetic really. Of all places to float such an idea.
>>
>>22276366
Am I wrong though?
>>
>>22276366
Economy of scale is negated by profit seeking. If people sold food to you at cost, yeah, it would be more efficient for you. But they don't. They mark it up to make a profit, balenced only by what they can get away with before you go to an alternate supplier or alternate product.

Pizza is the greatest example of this. The ingredients are cheap, but the product they sell you is ~15 or ~30 dollars depending on size. You aren't getting an efficient product when purchasing pizza, you are getting an expensive luxury product. Because the very same pie you get at a restaurant is $6 at the supermarket, frozen. And THAT still has profit factored in.

And pizza (the shitty kind) is dead simple to make. It's just bread with sauce and cheese on it, followed by your choice of cooked topping. Hell you can take naan and slather it with sauce and cheese and ta da, pizza. They make all sorts of par baked crusts you just slap stuff on and you get pizza. Now if you want to get finicky about what is the BEST form of pizza, sure you are paying whatever corpo outfit that tickles that fancy. But it's still more money than it takes for YOU to make it.

Soup is the other good example - it's like 7.50 at asian places and 12 something at english places. You are getting a tiny ass serving and robbed. Especially considering you are 1 $20 crock pot and a $5 rotisserie chicken away from gallons of soup (plus like $10 in veg/noodles). This is why soup is not really sold unless the restaurant is recycling stuff like shells and other bits into a soup for an appetizer. It's just cheaper for you to make it. And even the basics canned are dirt cheap.
>>
>>22276366
Economy of scale is only true for freezer section food. It is functionally impossible for you or me to produce a salisbury steak meal, gravy, and mash for $3. Hell, a MRE that you get in surplus is literally impossible to replicate - a main, a side, a drink, some desert, plus whatever other goodies. MREs run for $3-4 a meal. I am not beating that, and you aren't beating that. Even pro chefs like Ramsey they aren't beating that.

The shit you get in the freezer section is optimized to hell and back. That is true economy of scale - no wage slaves, all automated, cheapest ingredients, plastic/cardboard transpo, sold in bulk. You can't beat grocery store freezer slop because anything fresh is already 3x the cost of the freezer meal!

>hour and a half to cook chicken/beef with veg
>cleaning kitchen before and after cooking
bait or mental retardation
you be the judge

You sound like you get overwhelmed easily. Make a salad with just lettuce, and maybe one other chopped vegetable you like the most. If the box says washed don’t waste your time washing the lettuce. Don’t waste your time cleaning your kitchen before you cook like a psycho. Use instant rice. Daily chores and tasks just get easier when you get older, if you’re in your 30s though you are cooked
>>
>>22276485
>Make a salad with just lettuce
that is still way too much work. I’d be put back in the ward trying to surmount this herculean task.
>>
>>22276490
What ward
>>
>>22276375
getting an ego over cooking is like getting an ego over washing your clothes or cleaning your house
it's a necessary chore, not something that magically makes you a better person for having done it
if you can afford to pay someone else to do it for you then you're not losing out on anything
>>
I prefer to cook all food I consume. To save money, some foods I buy for pick up at local restaurants. A salad here with top quality plant ingredients costs $30 or more when made at home. $15- 20 from a quality local restaurant, which includes the labor. Add a quality protein like prime steak or shrimp and it's $15 additional at home but half as much from a restaurant. Similar with minestrone made with a scratch stock and large veal and ham shank bones. I cook like a fiend but the economics can favor restaurant food.
>>
Cooking is extremely easy, I don't know so many people can't do it. I think it's that they don't try.
>>
Be thankful you don't have this AND an ungrateful fucking family to cook for, all thanks to your spouse who regressed into a child and constsntly buys straight junk frozen and other foods, fast food, always insults you, and now so does one of your children. Then spouse has the audacity to scold them. Fuck my life. I need to start drinking again, no reason to be sober.
>>
>>22276540
you were warned your whole life not to get married and you did it anyways
>>
>>22276543
I actually wasn't. My parents failed and I didnt have sny other influence. I gave my life to someone who just used and abused it. Mother gives fuck all because she went through worse with dad. This is hell.
>>
>>22276547
Then go full Family Annihilator or stop crying about it, pussy.
You eat what you tolerate.
>>
>>22276525
No one here is paying people to do their chores. This is 4chan. There are no productive and well-adjusted members of society posting. Pretending you're too busy and important to cook for yourself is just horseshit, or maybe your justification for eating and overpaying for shitty fast food.
>>
What a retarded thread. Yeah, give up cooking, and give up posting too. You're obviously shit at both.
