Nakamura is the more shallow one when it comes to love ironically. He fell in love with the popular twink, later the show fleshes out his crush more, but Hirose being cute was the main hook. Hirose started talking with the weird kid nobody was interested in approcahing because he found him endearing and saw how hard he was trying to just be there, and then he starts to fall for Nakamura because he's Nakamura, he willfully discovers Nakamura's inner charm which isn't visible to most and lets Nakamura get closer. Hirose didn't care about the hottest guy in the show, Matsumura, and fell for the teacher because he protected him. I doubt Nakamura would ever approach Oomori or a guy like himself, but Hirose did, because he seeked an emotional connection he felt he wouldn't have got with any other guy
