Both of Oliver's predecessors, Sweet Ann and Big Al, have Frankenstein's monster-like stitches. Oliver was also intended to maintain the monster theme, but they did not feel the stitches suited him. Which, realistically, means they didn't like the look of stitches on a child character. So, if they didn't even like stitches for him, I doubt they were imagining him as having an empty eye socket beneath his bandages.All of this to say, Oliver's eye is fine and Len is innocent.
