Apparently Asuka shits on Kaworu a bit in that short that was released recently but you could take that as just her character being a cunt and not Anno himself

It's been a long time since I watched the movie.
If you want to know who won the Shinjibowl, it was apparently Mari, going off that final scene. If not Mari, then nobody.
Shinji and Kaworu did not end up together at the end of the Rebuild series. So that's that for the Rebuild continuity. But there can always be new Evangelion projects though, you know? (If you haven't heard, Yoko Taro is making a new Evangelion series.)
I will say that you should not and should never have expected kawoshin to be made canon, if that's what you were expecting. I really can't imagine them going past the homoerotic tension and having Shinji actually date a dude.

The truth that I have accepted since that movie is that Anno just doesn’t really like romantic readings of Kawoshin and wants to downplay it as much as possible. Satuskawa is the only Eva writer who seriously seemed care about the homoerotic element of Kaworu and Shinji’s relationship and he has not worked on this franchise since 2.0. Even as far back as when episode 24 was being drafted, Anno wanted Satsukawa to tone down the explicitly gay elements of Kaworu and Shinji’s relationship. I just ignore the rebuilds anytime I think about Eva now though.
