My "boys that don't have their own folder" folder has gotten so big (nearing 20,000 pics) that the search functionality no longer reliably functions. Even if I know the filename and search it, it is often unable to find the pic. This makes browsing for files to post here very annoying.I have been putting off breaking that folder into smaller ones, but now I have no choice. This is going to be a very long and tedious process.

Some file managers, specially the one in Windows, choke when there are thousands of files in a single folder because they try to index the files and their metadata while generating their thumbnails. On macOS the problem isn't that bad since the high read speeds of the SSD's of the macs make indexing large folders a quick process, and in Linux it depends entirely on the file manager you use (GNOME's Nautilus won't generate thumbnails until you open the folder and will slow down while it generates them, while KDE's Dolphin can run multiple processes at the same time).My largest folder has over 20,000 pics, which I split in folders with 2,000 pics each. This makes browsing them a less resource-intensive process. I also try to add the artist's name (when available, otherwise I use their user ID) to the filename and use the filenames the original files had, in order to make searching for specific artists easier.
