He learned that people would only be nice to him as a manipulation tactic and that they would use anything he honestly revealed about himself as ammunition against him later.

My biggest problem with this show is that it treats Jax as more complex than he really is. He's just an asshole. Jax was on the abstraction train in episode 1 for the exact same reasons he was in episode 9. That is less interesting to me than dynamic characters who make a real effort to change, like Ragatha or Gangle. I get what Goose was going for, but I think the show would be stronger if Jax either a) abstracted earlier, or b) was able to be held accountable and grow as a person. Watching an asshole continue to deny chances to improve until the very end is not so compelling that it warranted being THE focal point of the finale.

Now that the rust has settled, the ending was terrible. I honestly think the Amazing Digital Suicide Pact would have been a better ending. The entire Jax mindscape sequence is ultimately padded drama. The catharsis of the ending is insincere and hollow despite Goose trying every trick in the hack writer's book. New plot hooks are introduced that will never pay off, like Moon's non-programmed love for Caine. It's obvious that Glitch saw dollar signs and let Goose go crazy, convinced that the fandom would consoom any slop that put out, but I think they were mistaken, to everyone's detriment.

the jax dmt almost-abstraction is so cool now now. he was close to doing it at that point, held on for a little bit after and came close to changing, but caine being deleted and making him feel like he lost the world he was getting used to finally did it. also, he is responsible for causing ribbit's abstraction for pushing her away after being intimate and regretting it, but at the same time, he is damaged from a complicated past, so it's a complicated gray area where he's not at fault for the feelings he has, but at fault for not being more open and at least trying to be better and more resilient with vulnerability, and I think that's the main message of his character and overall arc. overall as a jax lover, this a great ending for him. I would have loved to see him not abstract and join the rest of the cast after caine comes back and reforms the circus, become a more pleasant person who embraces himself, but this is also a good ending that's darker but a good allegory on how people's previous mindsets or thoughts die when they move on from trauma and try to change, and it's nice we see jax's human counterpart is living happily showing he is taking come control over whatever shit made his mind scan character so fucked up
