Many languages used to have pronouns for different situations, like depending on the speaker's and subject's class relations, collective pronoun that were different depending on the gender makeup of the collective, and so forth.in English as an example "you" used to be exclusively plural, while thou was the singular second person pronoun. It also differentiated on wether the person was the subject or object of the sentence, So "You are" would be "Thou art" while stuff like "I see you" would be "I see thee", and switched with you and ye for plural.
