would an adaptation of the authority be good?

YOU CANNOT UNDERSTAND THE AUTHORITHY WITHOUT UNDERSTANDING STORMWATCH

What kind of good? Good as in "Makes changes, but is overall faithful to the original spirit of the comic"? Or good as in "It's a decent TV show that uses the basic concept as a springboard for a new direction?"

Also are we talking a hypothetical scenario pre-2016, or if it were made today? Because there's no way an adaptation will ever be anything close to enjoyable if it were made now.

why?

Assuming you're not being facetious, it's a tough sell in today's culture. A unilateral multiversal defense force. With people that are fundamentally people, edges and all. But the thing is, it's not in a "upset the social order" kind of encouraged rebellion for today's peeps. The Authority is crude, crass, doesn't apologize or wink. And quite frankly that degree of sincerity isn't allowed.

The newest printings of the collections and the omnibus have the uncensored panels and not-Captain America has his shield. The one guy puts his cigar out in Swift’s mouth and the other stuff Levitz made them cut like here >>153846237

are they colored or just black and white?

I think if they could’ve got an Authority adaption out before Deadpool or The Boys or even Invincible it would’ve been well received but after those things an R-rated super hero thing will just seem like rip offs of those. Which sucks, The Authortiy is in my top five favorite comics ever and a big budget disaster-style movie with the same sort of tone as Robocop would be the jizz.

Colored, fully integrated like a Director’s Cut movie

I see a lot of people not getting the fact that the authority was good because we had the global war on terror underpining everything.

The Authority is a juvenile, embarrassing power fantasy and I'm glad DC bought all the characters and made them secondary jobbers to their own characters.

This seems like something that is actually edgy and reprehensible. But the stories themselves are try hard

they censored 19/2000 because it features a missile against a giant moose.

Is canon that the Authority was destroyed by NATO.

The Authority started like right before Jim Lee sold Wildstorm to DC. Paul Levitz, the president of DC at the time, HATED The Authority and did everything he could to get the book canned. 9/11 was an excuse but really it was Levitz’s hate boner for the book
>>
>>153848768
If it sold why would he care
Was he autistic?

Yes. But he also stopped execs from turning Watchmen into a franchise for a couple decades so he’s not all bad.

Just do Superman vs The Elites but with Captain Atom with elements of Captain Atom: Armageddon on top. The Authority would work if they get their shit checked hard for thinking their shit don't stink.
>>
>>153848786

You have to understand that Levitz was under a lot of pressure to avoid having WB take notice of what DC was doing (at one point Ted Turner asked why WB didn't simply make DC a licensing entity), and at the time Authority was in Millar's run, AOL was buying out WB, and the deal was cleared in December 2000.

Think about what happened to DC when WB took an active role in overseeing it in the 2010s, when Didio was in charge. That's the kind of thing Levitz didn't want.

Millar was pissed off about how the book got censored and had Swift kill off a knockoff of Ted Turner and I forget who the other analogue was

>>153849465
He didn't just do that, he also compensated when particular designs or sometimes even dialogue was used in other media. This stopped after he left, IIRC.
>>
>>153847639
English, Irish, scottish...

>>
>>153849730
>Captain Atom: Armageddon

I remember that reading like a shitty piece of fanfiction by someone who hated the fuck out of Wildstorm.
>>
>john, as the president of the United States I am asking you: Do not go to that island.

>I know you have heard stories, even I even I'm surprised by what I've heard, but you need to understand, what happens in that island responds to a diplomatic necessity
>>
>>153844162
Early WildStorm has better material for adaptation.

>>
>>153852064
I'm always wondered why comic writers from UK love writing edgy shit compared to US writers.
>>
>>153848197
DC already owned all the characters when the original series was published, you colossal mong
>>
>>153846237
So make it worse?

Censored version
>shows that the Authority are fully taking advantage of all the privileges that come with being superheroes that the people need.
>And need as in millions and billions will die without them
>so they get every whim catered to them
>their downfall is their own making
>the replacements just take over doing the same shit
Uncensored version
>generic villain shit
>shock value but no substance
>them being defeated is just nornal and carries no weight
>the replacements will always be better
>>
>>153847882
>an R-rated super hero thing will just seem like rip offs of those

No it wouldn’t. It might be colloquially be compared to them but the Authority is nothing like Deadpool or The Boys so calling it a ripoff would be entirely nonsensical.
>>
>>153847436
>>153847457
Less awful than the final version where he pops her souffle.
>>
>>153853134
that one was just comedically kicking dog evil
>>
>>153853100
>I want mature edginess (I'm really mature and intelligent you see) but only until I get actually shocked then it's cheap garbage for CHUDS
every time.
>>
>>153854382
>theres a point where you go too far and the original point loses all meaning.
Glad you understand this basic concept of storytelling.
