Is it safe to say Garth Ennis has become the Rob Liefeld of comic writers?
Not in terms of actual quality in their respective fields but rather how they're both so infamous that their reputations goes beyond even people into comics.
Ask anyone on the internet who's the worst artist in comics and they'll probably bring up Liefeld (and even use art that's not even his')

Mark Millar or Chuck Austen
>>
>>153845312
Dan Slott made-up a bunch of new ugly Spider suits just to hock toys.
>>
>>153845312

No.
I don't think the average non-comic readers could, with a gun to their head, so much as name one comic writer.
>>
>>153846388
Stan Lee
Alan Moore
>>
>>153845312
I know you're just retarded, but Neil Gaiman is easily the most well-known comic writer among casuals. Alan Moore is up there and Robert Kirkman is probably way more known than Ennis, too.
>>
>>153845312
I might get some flak for saying this, but Rob Liefeld is the Rob Liefeld of comic writers.
>>
You could poll viewers of The Boys right now and I guarantee you that even if the majority could tell you it was based on a comic, a far smaller percentage are going to be able to tell you who wrote it and who drew it and those are going to be the people who knew that information going in
>>
>>153847616
I mean if you want to go there then yeah. But people don't buy his comics for his writing. A comic writer is only there to write
>>
>>153845312
Liefield is likeable and has some pretty good takes on comics. I’ve started to appreciate him more through social media, he has this enthusiasm and love for comics that I appreciate, even if a lot of his work isn’t my cup of tea I still enjoy listening to him.
>>
>>153845312
Ennis is far from the worst writer, he's not even the worst of the British Invasion (that's Millar)
>>
>>153847714
I mean, you can still like a person even if their body of work is complete dogshit. I think Millar is a fucking terrible writer but he seems like a decent enough bloke.
>>
>>153847714
Mark Millar is very likable too.
>>
>>153849503
It's true, but he's the edgiest of them all. But the worst part is that he hates Capeshit, yet most of his stories are in that genre.
>>
>>153850290
He doesn't hate it.
>>
>>153849530
Liefield just seems like someone I would enjoy talking comics with back in the day at my local comic shop. I kind of miss that, where you randomly talk to a fellow comic fan in person and just have a good time talking about your shared hobby.
>>
>>153850290
Millar is more edgelord to be honest.
>>
>>153845312
If you don't have haters you're not successful.
>>
>>153852633
Millar is edgy like a big brother, it’s gross but not malicious. With Ennis you can tell he fucking hates certain people, like religious Christians. Maybe more elitism than hate, like Ellis has, but still a visceral dislike.
>>
People rejecting edge is a fad and an immensely hypocritical one at that.
>>
>>153853431
People are too cynical and apathetic to be edgy anymore. Edge only works when you have something you hold dear enough to hold to be almost sacred. People under the age of 25, maybe older, don’t really have that.
Ennis grew in an era where superhero fans took their IPs seriously. Modern superhero fans openly refer to their stuff as capeshit.

Alan Moore
Paul Jenkins
Kieron Gillen
Robert Kirkman
Grant Morrisson
Geoff Johns
Mark Waid
Niel Gaiman
Johm Layman (he wrote Chew)

>>153845312
It’s just your autistic self not being able to let anything go. OP, it only ends when you kill your self.
>>
>>153854923
Gaiman is the only famous one, and not for his comics. Moore is kinda known for being a fat retard
>>
not live adaptation and not animated adaptation chads keep winning.
My brian k. vaughaun and peter millegan bros were are you?

tfw I bought one of his comic books
>>
>>153854998
Is Moore actually that fat?
>>
>>153845312
the Rob Liefeld of comics is Jonathan Hickman

>doesn't create anything original even when he "creates" something "new"
>weird obsession with filler pages filled with awful charts mirrors Liefeld's obsession with minimal background, avoiding drawing feet and hands, double pages and full-pages he has no ability to complete
>weird obsession with steampunk in 202X mirror's Liefeld's weird obsession with when he was popular 40 years ago
>can't take criticism

>>153845786
that's actually the job yeah after Kirby left Marvel and DC and ended up back at Marvel, he eventually moved into doing exactly that with Larry Hama, but essentially it was always his job too

>>153845751
Millar can at least frame pace and tell a story, even if it isn't very good; same with Ennis and Austen; Austen's Avengers run is actually fine, it's light years ahead of the Bendis run that followed
>>
>>153847435
>>153847630
While Ennis isn't super well known, youtube videos and social media have made him at least somewhat known more.. You guys underestimate how many 20-35 year olds watch video essays and engage with memes casually. Your point of comparison always seems to be 50 year olds who don't watch the show, which of course is a moot point. But normie men who watch it and engage with any sort of interaction about it online, which is not a majority but still a lot of people, will be likely to hear the name and learn about the comic, however briefly.

>Austen's Avengers run is actually fine
>>
>>153858145
You are not indicative of the regular person, 25 or otherwise

That is the autism talking

The regular person isn't going to get that far past Homelander memes, much less essays
