'El Tigre' Creator Reveals He's In Talks to Revive Iconic Nickelodeon Series - And It May Include Characters From 'Invader ZIM' and 'Teenage Robot'

>During this weekend's MomoCon, Gutierrez noted that while he is currently working on several projects, including new television series for Disney, a new movie for Netflix, and a Warner Bros Speedy Gonzalez movie, he is still thinking of his Nickelodeon series. As Jorge describes it, the El Tigre revival will "see a twenty-year-old version of Manny Rivera return to the present, meeting the other characters he once knew. Future Manny tells Frida that she must eliminate El Tigre's father and grandfather, or the world will be destroyed." While this revival is far from confirmed, the fact that Gutierrez is in active discussions to make this a reality is good news for El Tigre.

>In a shocking twist, Gutierrez also confirmed that he is looking to add the lead characters from Invader Zim and My Life as a Teenage Robot (Invader ZIM and Jenny "XJ-9" Wakeman, respectively) into the mix. Both these Nickelodeon properties are wildly different from the story of the young mask-wearing protagonist, though Jorge went one step further in confirming how serious he was about the crossover. "I'm friends with Jhonen Vasquez and Rob Renzetti, creators of Zim and Teenage Robot, so I've already got their blessing on using them both." While Paramount hasn't given the project a green light, it seems as though the stars are aligning.

why not make something new

>It is not approved, but trust me guys in just 2 more weeks the company that will be 80 billion in debt after acquiring WB and cannot even afford to keep TLH going now will pick this up
Lol

it's what the executives want

Favorite villain from the show? for me it's El Oso, I'm glad he was the most recurring one

Can we just let works stand on their own?

This will not happen. I like Jorge enough, but by all accounts El Tigre does not have the success, love, or nostalgic pull that at least a dozen other Nicktoons that haven’t gotten revivals yet have. Even MLAATR has more modern-day appreciators and fans than El Tigre.

I don’t know how he could possibly live within the Hollywood system and be constantly criticizing how shit Hollywood is online and still think his cartoon from 20 years ago that nobody ever talks about has any modern audience whatsoever. Nobody cares about El Tigre, if we’ve gone 20 years without any fervent fan base forming or people asking for it to come back, there’s no way Paramount would EVER invest in it. It’s not even probably within the first 40 choices of IPs they’d be interested in rebooting. I’m sure they’ve considered both Zim and MLAATR before El Tigre. And probably Jimmy Neutron and Rocko and Arnold and Danny Phantom and a whole shitload of Nick’s other cartoons and live action series’ before ever touching El Tigre again.

I don’t even say this as someone who dislikes El Tigre, I thought it was okay, but it would be like the creator of Mike Lu and Og suddenly claiming that they’re just a couple meetings away from a reboot with special guest appearances by Dexter and Johnny Bravo. It just wouldn’t happen. In 20 years I have never seen a single person make a video or share a clip of El Tigre. It’s not a property that would make money. Mucha Lucha unironically has a better chance.

So it’s like nicktoons unite but it takes place in the El Tigre universe? Sounds fun. Fuck it, add Danny Phantom in there too. I barely remember anything about El Tigre tho, I haven’t seen it in a while.

He was in NASB2 because of fan demand.

Great I cant wait for this to be ruined too.

El Tigre got cut off at only one season (and not because it was bad or did poorly) so at least on that level this doesn't sound bad.

Not sure about the MLATR and Zim crossovers...those shows have such different tones from each other. MLATR and El Tigre MAYBE, but Zim seems like a very odd fit.
>>
>>153861869
Fippy bippy. Everything the establishment media releases is nostalgia bait of pre-existing franchises these days. Make something new you faggots.
>>
>>153862654
If we're going the route of a Nicktoon Avengers, making a trinity of Tigre, Jenny, and Danny is the most logical first move. From there you can get Jimmy and maybe Timmy. Spongebob and Zim continue to be the hardest sells in this equation because of how drastically different they are from the others.
>>
>>153861764
>Zim
So I guess it takes place after that ep where he ends up in Mexico

This coukd be a very good thing or a very bad thing as invader zim and MLAATR are two of my favorite shows ever and i also loved el tigre.... but ive been burned by reboots before. Just look at the rocko movie.

Lately I've been thinking of some standalone concepts. Coming up with pitches for stuff that seems like it'd have had legs in the aughts seems like the next step forward now that everyone's shilling for aughties nostalgia. The reason I'm bringing it all up now is to gauge interest for a thread. Would anyone seriously contribute to something like that?
>>
>>153862563
My mistake, I forgot about the cheap shovelware game made by like 10 people and how it compares to a multi-million dollar production where the headlining characters aren’t SpongeBob and Avatar but instead a cartoon that got one season and is only remembered for having a good art style.
>>
>>153862698
It's going to be bad anon. Every major reboot of the last decade has been bad. Mid is the best we can hope for. Frankly I dont want these characters to return. The modern day can only ruin them.

A lot of the new things are not really panning out so you got to rely on the tried and true to stay afloat.

He already made El Guapo and that's still in-production.

LatAm loves El Tigre. A Tigre revival would be a great way to promote Paramount+ in the region.

That's kino, I'd watch it

Because companies do not want that, they want their existing merchandise sellers to have a new promotional ad
Why do you think all the companies are trying to snipe Gutierrez to work on their existing Mexican IPs? WB, Disney, Netflix, and seemingly even Paramount now

this show was my absolute favorite when it was airing

While I agree with the sentiment, there's still something charming about el tigre.

It was basically a bunch of Mexican supers being toss around rule of cool with some jokes in between, it has some charm that we are missing.

And I guess it helps that studios are starving to appeal to nostalgia since they suck at reading the public, if it gets us more el tigre I'm ok with that.
>>
>>153863125
where is this playing
>>
>>153862308
Yeah El Tigre feels too obscure to revive. It only had one season. Nick didn’t care about, they sent it to die and finish the rest of its episodes on Nicktoons. That’s probably why he’s shoving Zim and XJ9, because he knows he won’t be able to convince Paramount to bring back El Tigre as a show on its own.
>>
>>153865419
Mucha Lucha was a fun show for what it was but it doesn't need a comeback either
>>
>>153866787
No you're right, I'm just saying ML was better. No offense to JG: Maya was a great movie.
>>
>>153861869
Jorge does both. He has an original chihuahua movie and wrestler show in the works alongside these IP revivals.

I feel the same way. El Tigre was done dirty for sure, but Jorge still wrapped it up as best he could. The one season we got still feels whole. The man's got LOADS of ideas and pitches he's always developing, so I'm way more interested in what those might be.

We got an ending, we got an artbook, now move on.
>>
>>153863818
At this point considering Nick’s current line up it wouldn’t be the worst idea sadly.

Great if true, just don't make it lose each shows' essence.

Add Danny Phantom and you'll have official nicktoons return of toybots lol.
