/co/'s thoughts on Marvel Ruins?
>>
>>153867512
Edgy tryhard garbage that not even the author likes anymore (rightfully so)
Terrible concept executed badly, the only saving grace might be the art but even that is just unpleasant to look at and pure gore for the sake of gore

hulk tumors
>>
I read it when I was twelve, and I was depressed for months.

HULK TUMORS

I loved it death to marvel
>>
>>153867512
It's so ridiculous I love it
>>
>>153867512
It's one of those Ellis comics that's ruined by stretching out longer than it really needed to be
>>
>>153867664
But he did that again in Planetary with Jacob Greene
>>
>>153867512
The idea of everyone's origin story screwing them over is interesting but it's done in the worst way possible. Having Jean Grey show up randomly as a prostitute and Nick Fury immediately shooting her in the head and then killing himself perfectly exemplifies the entire thing.
>>
>>153867512
It's fine. I think it's better received if read as the cynical companion piece to MARVELS, or when bingeing the "worst end" What Ifs.
>The Hulk: The End
>Old Man Logan
>Astonishing X-Men: Ghost Boxes
>Spider-Man: Reign

Stuff like that.
>>
>>153867763
And the audience’s reaction to reading it, largely.
>>
I think that it's depressing and, had it been done well, could have been pretty good. The idea of bad ends (or more accurately 'bad beginnings') for the majority of the Marvel universe is interesting but there should have been more elements of humanity. Tragedy isn't just misery porn it's the understanding that things didn't have to turn out the way they did. There's a meta understanding that this is the case because the reader understands what the Marvel universe is supposed to look like but there should have been some element of possibility or hope in Ruins that didn't end up happening because of a preventable/conscious mistake.

Anyway, it's edgy crap but a concept that could theoretically have been good.

Geeze, and I thought Snyderverse was bad.
>>
>>153867512
It's a joke and it's funny, then gets boring once they run out of ideas and change artists a couple of times.

>>153867625
You're overly sensitive. That's a feminine trait, btw.
>>
Without Ruins we would not get The Authority Book One.
>>
>>153867728
It was two issues.
>>
>>153867512
The sign Marvel needed to drop Ellis
Powerless covers similar territory while actually telling a fucking story
>>
>>153867512
Marvel trying to do Kingdom Come from the other end of the time line.

The art was good, but nothing in the story made sense. Somehow Ben not going up with the FF totally wrecked everyone else in the Marvel universe? All edge, no point.

What happened to the artist at the end? The last few pages were done by someone else.

Nothing of value lost

Ellis is obsessed with Space Age and Space Technology but he denounces the architects of such technologies because they are not vehicles of hope anymore.

But at the same if you get too cynic people lost hope.

Maybe that's why 20th Century Men now make sense even for europeans.
>>
>>153868664
Ruins was drawn by two artists who were married to each other, they divorced during issue #2, so they had to bring in a new artist to draw the final pages
>>
>>153869045
>Comic was so trash it ruined a marriage
Grim

>/co/'s thoughts on Marvel Ruins?
This should have been the reason why Ellis doesn't have a career anymore. Like from the moment he pitched it.
>>
>>153869045
What else does Marvel: Ruins? First a marriage, next..?
>>
>>153867512
Found out about it from a TikTok and went to go out and read but was only faced by the most cringy le if superheroes were real edgelord slop imaginable

for me, it's underage Jean prostitute(probably pimped by Xavier to epstein on the political backstage and secure his power)
>>
>>153870245

>MARVELS version: the girl is a deep cover agent with solid safety net.
>>
>>153867512
I found it funny. Especially when Fury shows up. Absolute fucking mad man.
>>
>>153869948
I really liked Marvels. It has a very surreal feel to it. And put shit into perspective, I mean there have been examples of them doing things from the civilian perspective but this made everything feel much more grounded. I don’t know if it’s the art style or Sheldon himself feeling very human but over all good stuff. I especially liked how he called Peter a weasel for giving pics to Jameson as well as his relationship with him in general.
>>
>>153867877

It’s weird because over the top cynical wall to wall edginess feels corny and unintentionally hilarious even if it’s “realistic” or in fact a true story depending on how it’s delivered, exactly. The prostitute Jean murder suicide scene is a perfect example, you burst out laughing, but this isn’t actually a comedy and doesn’t work as edgy comedy either, it’s all just way too damn much or rather the way it’s executed and delivered is.

There are objectively edgier things that don’t come across so goddamn silly in execution.

thank you for remind me of Fury murder suiciding with Jean Grey.
>>
>>153867512
It's one issue's worth of evocative ideas about a MU gone wrong. The problem is that only a handful of those ideas are given any sort of development and it's two issues long.
>>
>>153868595
And it was originally intended to be a What If issue

If they did the What If issue it would've been too short but doing two prestige format issues felt too stretched out for this.

>>153870589
He did intend it as a dark comedy. It might be a bad comedy in execution, but he did intend it to be a comedy.
>>
>>153867512
>when you notice that even amongst the dead and dying heroes, Wanda's on full blast
She's lucky she didn't really appear in the story

>>153870589
It's just taking the edginess to full retard levels, because all these things just happen for no reason and with no explanation.
>>

I like Marvels because I think it gives us something we sort of took for granted. We've become desensitized and numb to things that are big and wondrous and puts things intro perspective how large of events these things should be and feel like.
>>
>>153867512
Never read it.
>>
>>153867512
Disney should adapt it into a streaming show but with Trump as Sentry.

Nothing "ironic" about it they'd make fuck tons of money cause that's the kind of stuff that sells nowadays.

There is a section of that comic were space exploration is seen as an opportunity to achieve solar punk utopia. I think old man Ellis had that dream too but achieved by the Kingdom.

What if super heroes, but they are assholes or they got cancer instead of powers or the governement killed them.
He did the same crap with Planetary but with good art, and people loved it, despite the shit story.
>>
>>153867512
Ok as an edgy satire. As a comic not so good like >>153867728 wrote. Too long, not much substance.
>>
>>153874215
And was only one issue.
>>
>>153873036
