Seasons 1 to 3 aren't even that great on their own either, there's just the groundwork for something good. The male and female leads had good chemistry, the main villain seemed like he might actually be the most interesting character on the show, and his kids also had an interesting dynamic going on. If they managed to properly utilize what they set up in the first three seasons, I'd go as far as to say that it's a good show. But they just couldn't, so I can only really call it a mediocre show with a few charming points at best.

I don’t think it’s worth rewatching to check, but I’m kind of curious if it’d be comprehensible enough to watch the first three seasons and then just skip to the last season. Or even skip all the way to a couple of the final episodes in the last season.It’s not like I thought the last season was good overall, but there were a couple individual moments that were payoffs to setups in episode 1 that I remember I’d been waiting for for the whole show.

Starting Troll Hunters despite my better judgment.
