So yes, he remembers when they did.

also, all but one of those were Cartoon Network shows that had specific programs allowing young animators an opportunity when other major studios did not.

>literal who xhitter screen cap
>any authority on industry
faggot OP is a bot
>>
Yeah, he's right. Except you have to make your own opportunities by being born to someone particularly rich who will gift you a creative project you can ruin.

The animation industry is shit because it's run by speds, trannies and gooners who produce cartoons made for (man)children that just end up being thinly veiled fetish bait or traumadumping garbage
>>
Anime doesn't have that problem
Maybe make shit people fucking want

Takehide Hori was in his 40s when he made his first animated movie Junk Head

These people all had ambition and went the distance for their work, there’s no way around that, but if you’re looking to improve things, there are far more factors than ambition that lead to the opportunity to do it at all being limited mostly to select graduates of the same few most expensive schools who come from families of means - and the economy has gotten a lot shittier in the last 15 years.

So when does Forrest Whaley get his big break? Huh? Cooking anything, Forrest Whaley? A fun... slapstick maybe? Something toyetic? Something fluid with a good framerate maybe? All the suits clapping for your pitch, Forrest Whaley?
>>
>>153875251
Nah these days you can just use free tools to put your shit up on youtube and have a patreon and get by fine, *as the minimum effort thing*. With a bit of planning you can go further, like the Planetronika guy had a store ready before he released the pilot

Heh, I'm just learning from this post that Pendleton Ward was under 30 when AT premiered. Judging by his appearance, I always thought he was between 30-40. I got the photo from this 2010 article: https://www.awn.com/animationworld/time-some-adventure-pendleton-ward

>get off your phone

They probably tried to cancel their dad and get him fired at work for making them eat vegetables as a kid.

>kids don't watch cartoons anymore
My son asks to watch Curious George by going "Ah Ah" like a monkey, or Paw Patrol by going "Ruff!" I'd be down for anything else that's appropriate for him to watch because he's not watching any cocomelon or gay dinosaur slop.
>>
>>153875416
Sure I could but those of us who can just do that if we want are in the same privileged minority as the calarts students. I don’t take that for granted
>>
>>153871331
just so we're all clear:

the guy telling people to "get off your phone and make opportunities for yourself" is not some auteur or even the creator of a show like the five creators he mentions in his paxeet

he's the 31 year old "director" of LEGO shorts about fucking Batman; not LEGO Batman movies, LEGO shorts about Batman

the kind of thing that someone born in 1995 has been able to do with free LEGO-provided software for the last 20 years

his "self-made opportunity" is also known as "luck"; he hasn't created anything and his work is only popular because free streaming video sites have become popular in the last 20 years, during which time Batman has stopped being total shit (on and off) and LEGO animation has become extremely popular

fucking TWAT

The environment in which the industry exists is changing to favor a different set of people. The ones who are successful now are the same ones who would have been gate-kept by the industry a couple of years back. This is not a story about people losing ambition or talent, nor is it about closing opportunities. This about changes in the flow of capital.
I just saw in another thread someone asking rhetorically "where are the cartoons for boys." All while we've had dozens of threads in the past few days for a web cartoon starring a buxom catgirl that debuted to 10 millions views in three days. We're in the middle of a shift, and we can't see it until it's complete.

I remember seeing that photo as a kid and thinking he was 50-60.

>his "self-made opportunity" is also known as "luck"
And the difference between the two is the former won the lotto, the latter did not. Like how people try to talk about how Bill Gates built an empire from nothing. Which was rather easy to do with his mother was on the board at IBM and convinced them to go with her son's recently purchased DOS operating system instead of an upgraded version of CP/M. Literally, just have the biggest PC manufacturer buying your product exclusively and you'll do fine like Bill Gates!
You'll notice a common thread about the older generation is they can't wait to tell you how they came from nothing to be successful and ignore or omit all the handouts and second chances they were handed on the way.
>>
>>153877229
The buxom catgirl cartoon is a single episode from a small company working outside of the normal industry circuit, it isn't indicative of any industry shift
