>Critically acclaimed live-action series is cancelled due to low viewership and high production costs
>Twice in a row
Is the Tick cursed?
Can the Tick be saved?
Can't we get Patrick Warburton to at least voice him or something? I'll take a commercial or something, goddamn.
>>
>>153871854
Since both Tick live action series got cancelled, they should try another cartoon, maybe aim it at adults this time, the 90s cartoon was the longest running out of all The Tick adaptations even if it was only 3 seasons
>>
The franchise just worked best adapted as animation, and Ben Englund seems to want to runaway from the madcap animated feel to trying to do more "adult" aimed satire which is turns out, has almost no fucking market.
Like if The Tick had a 2000's Adult Swim animated adaptation it'd be as cult as Venture Bros, but at best the live action shows can muster people insisting they were pretty funny, actually!

>maybe aim it at adults this time
I'm just terrified of them making the series overly edgy or cynical or something, but the live action shows did characterize him well.
The cartoon had a lot of adult jokes anyway. Not like crude stuff, but things that clearly weren't written for kids like a parody of the Punisher going to therapy or Tick briefly believing he's Jewish. The kids liked it anyway because funny chairface guy and spoon.
>>
>>153871913
>Venture Bros
One of that show's creators wrote some Tick cartoon episodes and a comic, I think. You can see the influence.
>>
>>153871854
We shall forever wonder if the Tick owns property on foreign lands.

>Is the Tick cursed?
It's a bad design that is eye catching but for all the wrong reasons. It spoofs capes while at the same time largely depending on the cape loving audience for both is initial and sustained viewing audience in every medium and that audience gets the joke pretty quick and moves on.

It's an intrinsically flawed design for a show/comic/cartoon.

So no, you can't save it. It has its fans, and it will remain niche forever.

I'm sorry :(
>>
>>153872188
Yeah, Fox did one in the 2000's and Amazon did one they canned so they could do "the Boys". I'm serious.
>>

https://youtu.be/a5pGq5x0psA?si=-X3E4jZ-yVeAEDh6
Nobody knew it fucking existed because it was exclusive to Amazon Prime and they didn't advertise it right.
And it still ran for longer than the Patrick Warburton one.
>>
>>153872239
History has proved them right though.
>>
>>153872239
>>153872243
Well, now I know. Still, cartoon is superior.
>>
>>153872251
What're you? A shareholder? The Boys sucked.
>>
>>
>>153872251
The Boys is the Tick but with sex/gore jokes and politics. You know, things retards like.
>>
>>153872281
That's like, your opinion man. Financially it seems to have been a success, it lived in social circles, had good viewership. You didn't like it and that's fine. I didn't like it either. I also didn't like The Tick, or any of its various shows or comics. You can not like something and still observe that it succeeded or failed.
>>
>>153872325
The Boys has nothing but contempt for its own source material.
The Tick, in comparison, feels like a kid getting to play with their favorite toys. The secret ingredient is love.
>>
>>153872343
>>153872325
They were both pretty boring.
>>
>>153872334
So, how did the show do in the last couple of seasons. I've heard got sick of it and the finale is horrible.
>>
Sex with Lobstercules!
>>
>>153872251
>>153872334
>Sabotaging a critically acclaimed show by refusing to advertise it was the right move, actually
People didn't watch the Tick because no one fucking knew about it.
>>
>>153872384
The finale was the broad strokes from the comic. And I'd have to go look up the data for the last seasons viewer numbers but if it lasted this long it wouldn't have been because no one like it.

Not really getting where you're going with this either, you sound bitter and nerd-ragey.

>Not giving him a Kadabra

I think the Amazon tick is one of the better versions we've gotten of "modern world, with super heroes." They don't spend a whole shitload of time on world building or any of that bullshit. It's a relatively normal world, the "world outside our door," but sometimes people get fucked up by super villains, and sometimes superheroes save people and shit. I love that.
>>
>>153872398
>People didn't watch the Tick
I knew about it the same way I knew about The Boys, TMitHT and Vox Machina. It was on my Prime feed. You can blame whatever you want. People didn't watch the show you liked.
>>
>>153872448
I don't think your experiences are universal.
>>
>>153872431
>I think the Amazon tick is one of the better versions

I actually did think it was probably the best adaptation to date, it still got pretty boring though.
>>
>>153872461
I don't think the feed I have on Prime is special.
>>
>>153872023
And in turn Englund wrote an episode of VB, the only person besides the creators to do so. He helped with an early episode and also wrote the episode with the Scooby gang parody.

I don't think everyone in the world has an Amazon Prime subscription...and of those that do, I don't think all of them much time looking at their 'feed'. Some people subscribe to streaming services specifically for a small number of shows they found out about elsewhere, for example. Or spend most of their time on other streaming services and only occasionally hop on to another when they hear about something interesting.
I think advertising a show successfully might be more complex than you're insisting and involve more than putting an image of it on a feed.
Did you know there's whole agencies that do advertising? Like, entire businesses that do nothing but advertise for products and other stuff.
Jesus Christ, you are boring.
>>
>>153872487
He also wrote a couple of episodes of Supernatural who's creator was the showrunner of the Boys. Wild.
>>
I only knew about the Amazon show from here. It's the only reason I got Prime.
>>

Wow you're insufferable. You can't just talk about the thing you went out of your way to try to turn this into a debate. Literally why?

It wasn't but it is now. It spread the stench of failure over the entire IP with its numerous cancellations and series that went nowhere. Anyone that touches it in the future will do it apprehensively and expect failure from the onset.

Now is unironically the time with Invincible at the height of its popularity

The Tick is always lampooning the trends of the time and okay animation that depends on B and C list actors for voice casting is the hottest trend out there

>>
>>153872466
It was obvious they didn't get the budget they needed.
>>
>>153872689
Man the costumes in this were fucking great. Right mix of grounded and over the top.
>>
>>153872232
The Tick was a parody/deconstruction made by people who love superheroes.
Contrast with The Boys that was made by people who hate them. It's terrible that we got the latter instead of the former.
>>
>>153877410
It only makes sense. The public can’t love superheroes without everything that makes them enjoyable either being stripped out of them, made into self-aware mockery, or both.

Looking at a feed on what was the 6th or 7th streaming service at that point in time? Yeah, that's pretty rare.
>>
>>153871854
Wasn't amazon Tick cancelled so they could shift production to The Boys?
>>
>>153871854
The Tick is too wacky and cartoonish that it only really works as a cartoon. But for some reason Edlund desperately wants it to be a live action thing while still including the wacky over the top cartoon gags everywhere. It just doesn't work.
>>
>>153872243
It was Amazon's first original show back when Amazon Prime was fucking awful. It consisted of just all Wal-Mart $1.99 bargain bin movies that no one gives a shit about so nobody bothered with prime video, even if they were already subscribed to prime.
>>
>>153871854
I would say at this point, yeah it's cursed. But based on the fact that it has multiple failures in its history that now every executive is going to see that and decide it's a toxic franchise that does not work and pass on it.

Another issue is that the side cast has to be reinvented for every single new incarnation and that makes it more and more difficult to make newer adaptations.
>>
>>153879645
What's the issue with side cast?
>>
>>153871854
Wasn’t the first LA show cancelled because FOX was pissy about Sony owning the show or am I just completely wrong and stupid?
>>
>>153879722
Chalk it up to ignorance or indifference or a concession made because The Tick wasn't a billion dollar property, but Edlund didn't secure ownership rights on new stuff. If it was in the cartoon and wasn't in the comic first, he doesn't own it. That's why the first live action show had use a knock-off Fledermaus and the second kept to a more limited pool of largely existing characters.
