Preserving Jivi's umbilical cord is more like a normal mother than preserving her crew's genitals. At least Chinese eunuchs were able to keep their dick and balls in a personal pouch after castration.
>>
>>153872003
Wait... Jivi's real name is REjivi? Damn, that kid really is her property.
>>
>>153872962
No, that's the umbilical cord. It's a hybrid of them, so the name is too. Naming Jivi that implies he lives up to her standards, and no man could ever hope to do that. Jivi should be happy she's allowed him to keep his junk with how much of a disappointment he's been. Just like his father.
>>
>>153873014
To be fair in biological terms that umbilical cord is 100% Jivi and only Jivi which is why things like cord banking exist. I recognize however Regina wouldn't give a shit about that.

Plus from the blurb this seems to be far, far away in Aldish territory. Now the ducks are a little weird, and clearly purposeful, so I guess they have some connection. But I still believe in Captain Mallard.

speak for yourself. maybe i am not just smart enough to figure it out, but i don't see regina being the mallard. isn't she some kind of officially sanctioned pirate? and the cargo ship at the beginning of this chapter mentioned they should have got an escort, so they are not someone cresce wants gone. also in an ask in january, ashley answered „Every time I think about this guy [Mallard] it makes me laugh. While I don't think Mallard is Regina - and I suppose she has that Mallard because she wants to find & kill this rival pirate - it's not at all unprecedented or unusual for privateers to turn pirate on their home nation.

Yeah IDK. The whole business of being a privateer is kinda at odds with Crescian economic values. And she pointedly doesn't have a 4 letter name. Certainly I can buy "even a little" but I'm real curious to see more of her and her worldly thoughts.

>>
>>153877688
I doubt she cares for Crescian values or could ever fit in with normal Crescian society. More, she cares for the freedoms and privileges it affords her and likely has an appropriately Crescian distaste for Alds. The queen has her nominal loyalty because the queen has given her approval to loot, plunder, and kill the Alds, and doesn't care much about the specifics of how Regina gets it done. That is likely as far as her loyalty to Cresce extends. She's no true believer in the system, and aboard her ship, most Crescian norms and laws are likely abandoned. I assume the only person Regina is truly, genuinely loyal to is herself.

Part of me also thinks that there's no other country Regina could align herself to because she would never be willing to respect or follow a man's rule from what we know of her, and we don't know of any other women led countries, particularly ones that are major powers. Closest you could argue is maybe the church with their head priestess.
>>153877838
I have to be honest, I really hate how the Kasslynian map looks. Cope is incredibly gifted and devoted with most other things she attempts, but a map maker she is not. I find the way Kasslyne is laid out pretty unrealistic. I don't want either though. I have enough Unsounded prints I'll never frame. Give me an art book or the extra stories she's written for the comic in a stand-alone print book. Those would make me the happiest to spend extra.
>>
>>153878331
IIRC the only map we have is pretty undetailed, what about it comes across as unrealistic?
>>
This is legit one of the worst things I've ever read and it should be hype but even the art is lame. The comic is cringe, the community is cringe, the author is cringe and besides chapter one I can't see why anyone would continue reading this shit. I am so sure some people here have been around for at least ten years and I honestly feel bad for them. I want to call this soulless but it's too boring even for that.

Anyways, I just wanted to express my hate. Carry on.

>WWATF?
>>
>>153878364
It is, and hopefully a more detailed one made more recently would be better, I have no doubt Cope could get good at map making if she so desired. Although there's a limited amount she can change (or would be willing to change) a pre-established map her characters have spent an entire story trekking across. The biggest issue I remember is that there's a river running clear through from the Crescian coast to the Sharteshanian one which means that for 50% of it's journey it's running upstream. There were a few other glaring issues similar to that that overall make the map feel more amateurish and fake.
>>
>>153878584
I see that now. And there's no getting around that the river flows into Cresce, because Duane and Sette take it there.
>>
>>153878584
Perhaps some enterprising parties created a canal with a series of locks and dams to bypass overland and ocean trade? There's a similar thing happening in West Manilda. The profits must be immense.
>>
>>153878827
Yeah. Another issue I have is the way the coast and rivers interact, and the way the rivers crisscross in an almost checkerboard like pattern inside of Cresce. While smaller rivers might combine, they don't cross these same ways, where it appears that they're all flowing in different directions and continue to flow in in different directions after. For the coasts, the rivers empty into the sea in weird places, and with weird formations. The two large bays in Cresce and Sharteshane aren't allowed to just be bays, instead they have rivers pouring into them, and these rivers don't have deltas where they've deposited sediment but actually appear to have cut away the land instead, at what should be their slowest moving point. That implies that it's actually the oceans doing the erosion, which would be perfectly fine if you didn't have a giant river there. Instead it implies that the weird 50% upstream river actually flows upstream both ways. Someone better versed at maps could probably pull other details that seem off, but these are the things I can point to that are clearly wrong.
>>153879097
Honestly if we're going to handwave it I like the idea that the waterwomen did it. But making an excuse for Kasslyne's map doesn't really make the map look any more realistic and sensible in my eyes. If I'm buying a map I need to be able to suspend my disbelief when I look at it.
>>
>>153879169
I guess there's some leeway in that this is explicitly a created world born from the interactions of senet beasts and so normal geography might not be expected. Also realistically some of the map probably will just be redone if it's made more detailed for merch.

>Also realistically some of the map probably will just be redone if it's made more detailed for merch.
I hope so. I'm sure a reworked version of the map would be better, I'm just not sure how much would be subject to change.
>>153879226
>>153879464
Regarding the fantasy geography, while we can try to handwave it with an excuse, and it did probably exist like that in the first world, the mountain ogres weather and erode just like anything else now, rivers that aren't actively being controlled by water women should also flow just like anything else. And while water women still exist, they are rarer and rarer every day, and try to avoid humans. I would suspect that any influence they might once have had on the paths the rivers took to be gone now, or localized to only a few relatively untamed bits of nature. Perhaps these channels would still exist in modern Kasslyne, but as unused, empty canyons and ditches, starting to erode themselves. The age of the senets and their first world has long since passed.
>>153879452
Those penises aren't mangled, the bodies they came off of are. The penises themselves are in mint condition.
>>
>>153879568
Cutting the penis off counts as mangling it. They aren't normally detachable.
>>
>>153879612
Regina took good care to cut the penises off without damaging them and is now carefully preserving them. Those are pristine. Just because the men they came off of are damaged now doesn't mean her collection isn't immaculate.
>>

*sigh*
Torturing someone for information or before execution in order make an example or spread the word of your activities is not the same as being a schizo that fucks corpses and eats them.

I get this is a fantasy comic but keep the camp down a bit.
>>
>>153882791
This is a really fucking weird line of argument from you. In the first place
>being a schizo that fucks corpses and eats them
Nobody is arguing this. This is not the behaviour we're seeing from Regina in the comic.
>Torturing someone for information or before execution in order make an example or spread the word of your activities
There were absolutely historical privateers that tortured for sheer sadism, like Ned Low or l'Olonnais.

People are saying Regina's actions fall within a spectrum fitting historical privateer depravity, but you insist on swinging between "torture only for a reason" or "the most ridiculous fantasy torture" when all anyone is arguing for is an in-between point. What's the deal here? To me this screams of 'I must be in the right' internet argument behaviour.
>>
>>153882875
>. This is not the behaviour we're seeing from Regina in the comic.
Mate, I'm speaking exemplia gratia. As in "give more examples of similar, nonsensical behaviours" things that wouldn't fit the psych profile expected of someone who can manage a private navy.

If you are so certain there's a measurable behavioral difference between preserving corpses in jars to stare at in your private chambers and fucking and eating them, then I'm all ears.
>>
Beyond that, we already had Starfish. Having another schizo for an antag is just boring. But I didn't want to say it like that as to not hurt cope's fee fees.
>>
>>153883261
>manage a private navy
Again we're pushing the boundaries beyond what's actually demonstrated in the comic here. Regina captains a ship, she doesn't command a navy. A lot of privateers in history did, but we've no evidence Regina runs more than 1 ship.

I think the difference between keeping trophies of your defeated enemies and being a cannibal necrophile is pretty huge and obvious, and you're making a deliberate false equivalence between them for reasons unclear to me.
>>
>>153883328
>Regina captains a ship, she doesn't command a navy.
Are you in the spectrum? This is literalist non-sense.
>>
>>153883379
Alright. So far as I can see, your argument from this single page is:
>Regina is SO crazy it's not believable she could logistically manage being a privateer
Now if you see this as true regardless of whether she's a captain of 1 ship or multiple ships, fair enough. But you exaggerated to navy, i.e. multiple ships in your own post, and running multiple ships is certainly more of a logistical challenge than running 1 ship. So I thought it was relevant to clarify it's just the 1.

Your actual feelings seem to be "I don't like Regina as an antagonist" which is fine, everyone likes what they want, but I don't find your attempt to make a logical argument for it at all convincing.
>>
>>153883502
Who's to say I don't like her, I haven't heard her speak yet.

I feel like like a world were we already have Senets and other beings, including an entire race of magically modified humans, for the "schizo retard with incomprehensible morals" role, making all normal human antagonists equally schizo and retarded boils over into camp or even worse, misery porn, which this comic has miraculously managed to avoid - so far.
>>
>>153883653
I think she just mutilates Alds because she hates Alderode, dude. Like how Francois l'Olonnais mutilated Spaniards because he hated Spain. As you say, we haven't seen if she's a schizo retard yet.
>>
>>153883653
>role
roles, just in case you decide to argue there's not character who has "schizo" "retard" and "incomprehensible morals" in the same bag.
>>
>>153874804
Well that's because the setting doesn't have a John Kellogg equivalent.
>>
>>153883502
Adding on, if we want to go to extreme levels of exaggeration in terms of responsibilities for Regina, there are plenty of dictators throughout history who were effective at achieving various goals (whether simple logistic goals, compliance from those around them, unwise or harmful goals, or even pretty uncontroversially beneficial things) while also being absolutely insane, bloodthirsty, or depraved individuals. Yeah plenty failed too, but that doesn't mean they all do. And in particular, the job of privateer is one where extreme brutality would be rewarded well. Imagine being set free without her laying a hand on you after seeing her collection of jars, and watching her remove your captain's member. There's a reason stories of her have made it even to Sharteshane.
>>
>>153884396
Bit of great man theory dependence there

Most recent schizos ie. gaddafi did not achieve much on their but rather were supported by external conditions (endless sources of money) or having competent people behind the throne and being part of a self-sustaining system that doesn't depend on them for its daily administration.

Furthermore, the skillsets require to run the day to day operations of a ship (accounting, manteinance, navigation plus being able to determine needs for length of travel-dependent variables i.e. food, minimum & critical maintenance materials stock, medical supplies, crew supplies, etc) are the same as those required to operate a fleet (synonymous with navy and other words) - in short, the only difference is that of scale and therefore not worth distinguishing in casual discussion.

Schizos as a rule are not good at soft skills. Matter of fact go open the historic pirates wiki page and see that the majority of them have a high end education or were outright burgeoise.

Do I need to cite the pages for my engineering books for you to believe me too?

This is not the type of high mental power skills someone who keeps a whole pantry of dicks for staring purposes would normally have, and I don't think there's gonna be "brains behind the brawl" person for Regina, else Cope would have already signaled it.

By the way, none of this is necessary to tell a good story, but Cope's 10+ years of detail-oriented storytelling has led me to expect a higher quality of internal consistency from her. And I know she knows her boats.
