Why were people claiming the showing was better in the first place? Was it just because the comic was "mean spirited" or "overly edgy" or whatever other meaningless horseshit criticism people pull out of their ass when something just makes them uncomfortable and can't make any real criticism towards writing quality?
>>153875471>"mean spirited" or "overly edgy" or whatever other meaningless horseshit criticism people pull out of their assThat is real criticism, you tard. Edge without substance is juvenile.
>>153875471The comic isn't just needless edginess, that would simply put it in line with a hundred other comics. No what makes the Boys truly terrible is how 90% of its pages are taken up by long-winded speeches Ennis wrote about how much he fucking loves the military. For every regular sized panel there's an average of 200 words about how cool and strong and smart spooks and the military are. It's incredibly boring.
>>153875471The comic fucking sucks and I hate that retards like you are going to use the show to retroactively try and say it was ever anything but fucking trash.Fuck you.
>>153875497>>153875708>>153875730And in what sense does the comic sucking mean the show was better?
>>153875758Literally no one said that, you SUCK.
>>153875708true but you can just skip them and nothing would change, there's one arc where it's like 4 issues of just military bullshit now that's bad
>>153875471GARTH ENNIS IS A HACK, SHOW IS JUST SLOP
>>153875471The comic is about a group gathering blackmail on superheroes and sometimes going to beat them up, because they took a drug that makes them stronger than the supesThe show is about a group that struggles to kill superheroes which are virtually invulnerable and they have no powers to help them. The show started with a better premise than the comic, but very quickly abandoned it in favor of gore, gay sex and scat. They really need to stop hiring fags to make these shows.
show is fagslop, wow fits right in with typical /co/ content i guess
>>153875471People saying this in the context of The Boys season 1 was understandable, as that was a well written season of television. The cracks started showing in season 2, and the decline has been sharp ever since. The Boys comic vs The Boys season 1? The show wins no question. The Boys comic vs The Boys full series? That's a different story
>>153876064You are the fag
>>153875497>>153875471The show was just as edgy and mean sprited, if not more.
>>153875758>in what way does the comic being really bad make the show better (by comparison)The two words there that you omitted. The show had a strong start and a bunch of very good episodes and bits. The comic was mostly terrible. Both absolutely squander the fantastic premise of a squad of normies using cleverness and a total lack of shame to kill people with superpowers.
Better death scenes.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jR4opjMMTB8&lc=UgzbXNisTR2fLf15q354AaABAg
>>153876425>yeah but at least homelander doesn't say the heckin mean gamerwords!!!11!!
>>153875471Three reasons. One: Ennis handles comedy poorly. It's not very funny and it's overly crass. If the former were not the case, the latter wouldn't be as much of a problem. Two: it trashes superheroes in a lazy way. It doesn't go far or deep enough with its criticisms, probably because Ennis wasn't enough of a fan.Three: The art is hideous. The pencils/inks are bad enough, but the colors take it to a new low.The show smooths this stuff out a bit, so that the redditor audience finds it a lot more palatable.
>>153876037You really can't understate the hype that came with the first season's tone, it was setting up a tense cat and mouse secret war where the super-team had to be picked off one by one, the decline was like going from an HBO drama to a CW drama
>>153875471It was never good. The ending just highlights all the bullshit that was there from day one. Anyone still defending this pile of shit are people mind fucked to completion by sunk cost fallacy.
>>153875471Because they watched a video essay telling them the comic was shit and didn't bother reading it
>>153875497But there was substance, if you bothered to read it you'd know the satire wasn't just "if superheroes were real they'd be evil bastards", the real target of the commentary was corporations and the corruption of people in power. It also very much was a product of the era it started in (post 9/11) so that got lost when they tried to make it a TV show set in the modern day
>>153878355Pretty much this. The idea was good but poorly executed because of Ennis's juvenile tendencies.
>>153875471The TV show wasn't very good, it's just that mainstream viewers hadn't seen a high production cape show with an angle of actively hating cape shit and also being American. They haven't seen as much "jaded comics creator" shit. The comic was even more shit because Ennis can't really write well, especially when he's trying to write about tropes he supposedly hates. tl;dr both things are shit the show is just being shown to a new audience and has better production and writing than the dogshit that is its source material.
>>153875471The comic was about how Garth wasn't happy how superheroes became celebrities with powers. The show is just "Quality doesn't matter as long as it owns the chuds". That pinko shit.
>>153875471>Why were people claiming the showing was better in the first place?Because the comic kind of sucked. So it isn't really that hard to surpass it. The comic had a bunch of random shit in it that was thrown in to be edgy regardless of how it actually impacted the story or even if it would be true to the character. Motivations generally weren't particularly well explained for most characters we were supposed to hate outside of "degenerate".I'm not saying the show was just soooooo much better, I am saying the bar wasn't as high as you think it was.
>>153875471The comic was mostly just spineless slop, just putting as much potty humor and blood as could possibly be contained within the pages of a comic. I wouldn't call it edgy because that would imply it was doing something interesting. The show dialed it down enough to give the illusion of actually being a satire with something to say about celebrity culture and super hero worship, only to fall into the same "liberal writers telling you how smart and ethical they are" trap so many other shows fall into.
>>153875471Cause the comic is kinda stupid and unfunny and too edgy for most. The show was stupid as well but a bit funnier, a lot safer, and it had some great actors that elevated the material. The comic also looks ugly as shit, I genuinely believe this is a major factor in the hate it gets.
The comics have such unlikable protagonists. Even Hughie and his blonde twat that gobbled the seven's knobs becomes a chore to read.
They both suck balls.
>>153875471The show USED to be better. But then the writters were fuming because people like Homelander more than The Boys, and of course started the Trump analogy.
>>153875471>Why were people claiming the showing was better in the first place?A youtube video said it and people are sheep.

>>153884329>The show USED to be better.lol no
>>153875471The comic only works (and there would be people replying to say "but it doesn't work!" if I didn't take this moment to say that they'd say that, and they'll probably still say it) if you have at least a passing familiarity with superhero comics to begin with. Every beat of the story, from start to finish, is riffing off of classic cape storytelling; it opens with a hero making his own villain in A-Train splattering Huey's girl, and the big twist at the end is an in-universe "that atrocity you saw Superman doing (on the floppy's cover/in that compromat) isn't actually Superman committing an atrocity, once you get the context around that moment." The logic of the whole thing only flows if you're already accustomed to it. I know the board has a (reasonable) knee-jerk reaction to the word "deconstruction," but that's what it is. As such, a normie is only going to get the surface level view of it and it's not going to click. That's fair, because the surface is Ennis' typical filth. The show, on the other hand, doesn't have to worry about discussing the medium it is no longer a part of. It presents a simple and standard underdog story and did that well (until it didn't). Every viewer is going to see the same surface level view of it, but that's a success for a reflecting pool. The showrunners didn't fuck up until they convinced themselves it was ever any deeper than that and dove in.
Why does Butcher make Terror rape things?
>>153879460>a CW dramaI think a CW drama's better than what the Boys ended up being.
>>153875471Shills. They infest this place.
>>153887515Can you explain the part where there's two different teams of black people feuding at Godolkin's? I never got that part. Maybe I just didn't read enough X-Men to get it.
>>153875471It was improving on a watery, underwear-soiling shart. That was not a feat. Unfortunately, the failed male cuckold running the show turned it into the same edgy, homoerotic revenge fantasy that Ennis had with the comic, because he tied Homelander to the Orange Man.
>>153887515>Every beat of the story, from start to finish, is riffing off of classic cape storytelling; it opens with a hero making his own villain in A-Train splattering Huey's girlNormally it is the other way around.
>>153888420It was about rapper wars, most of the boys is actually about celebrities than it is about capeshit.
>>153888811Oh, so that whole East Side/West Side thing? I'm too white for that shit, and so is Ennis.
