Did Kyle fans really think the entire GLC was outdated and a mistake?
>>
>>153880824
The character is suprisingly fine considering it takes shovels of shit compared to the rest
>>
>>153880824
>Did Kyle fans really think
No
>>
>>153880824
This is poorly laid out. This should have been in the next page, you know he blasts him before he does it.
>>
>>153880824
And some people complain about the parallax recton. They literally almost ruined Hal beyond repair.
>>
>>153880824
Kyle didn't have fans before he existed, moron.
>>
>>153881752
It did ruin him.

>>153880824
I miss when comics looked like this.
>>
>>153881018
Happens a lot in comics.

Having a hero just fucking lose it after failing to protect his city was great actually. "The yellow bug made me do it" is still fucking lame
>>
>>153886519
They chose the worst fucking hero to do it to, specially after the issue where he literally gets over it.
>>

No, during his entire run DC kept teasing the Return of the Corps over and over and over again every time sales dipped a bit too low. They did it like 5 times.
They understood most fans liked the idea of a corps ans bought more books every time they pretended the corps was coming back.

Geoff Johns wanted him squeaky clean

Green Lantern is a weird franchise, it simultaneous wants and doesn't want to Sci-fi.
>>
>>153886519
And yet people scream bloody murder when a 90's or 00's legacy character goes through a heel turn.
>>
>>153889309
Always seemed to me like fans want it to be scifi.
DC writers and editors want GL to be another Earth based superhero.
>>
>>153889309
The only sci-fi about it is being in space and meeting aliens
>>
>>153891481
That's plenty sci-fi. If it's not done right, though, it's shitty sci-fi.
>>
>>153892198
It’s barebones at best

>aliens make alien tech and send it to alien planets
>the tech finds specific aliens and turns them into alien police officers
>the alien police officers patrol alien planets, thwarting alien threats
I have never engaged with a piece of media that focuses specifically on Green Lantern and the basic premise sounds pretty fucking sci-fi to me.

Hal himself is the most pronounced victim of the Death of Superman craze but people forget that the entire GL mythos was neutered to accommodate Kyle, and even when Hal was revealed to be an irredeemable villain the authors kept being wishy washy on his portrayal because they knew the moral ambiguity and the chance of Hal coming back and bringing the Corps with him was one of the things that could save the book whenever it dipped below expectations >>153889153
I don't mind Kyle, and I don't mind his run, but this is despite his push not because of it. It's easy to forget but characters and promotions would just not stop sucking Kyle's dick
>Oh my days as GL are over you're the only GL now, says John Stewart and Guy Gardner
>You're the greatest Green Lantern ever, says Dream of the Endless
>You're a better hero than I could ever be, says Hal Jordan
It's a wonder Kyle gained any traction at all with how much the narrative kept bending over backwards to tell us how good he is one moment before showing us how bad he is the next. And man the GL rogue's gallery did not do well during this time period either. The loss of Sinestro and the greater cosmic villains meant we were stuck on Earth with some really underwhelming enemies like, uh, Grayven and Nero. It really says something when the biggest claimant to Kyle's mortal enemy is Hal Jordan, constant reminder of where GL was, and Major Force, a meme
Like I said, I do enjoy Kyle's run. I like his supporting cast mainly Donna, Alan, and Radu. He does great in team ups with Wally and Roy and Connor, and I like the cosmic Spider-Man vibes. But the entire concept was flawed from the get-go

Wah, wah. Hal going insane was the first time in that character's existence that he was slightly interesting.
