People will watch the major prestige and blockbuster films, but when it comes to “lesser” categories like animation (which most voting academy members won’t bother watching unless they have kids), they just vote for whatever they recognize. It’s the reason Disney/Pixar tended to win those categories. It’s also the reason that films with the deepest PR pockets tend to win.
