The creator ("Goose") flippantly dismissed these complaints as "the show is about the main characters," which ignited a minor backlash, which in turn ignited a backlash against the initial backlash, which in turn tried to ignite a reversal of the backlash to show appreciation, which in turn caused the creator to reject the organized showing of appreciation as parasocial.2) The final episode was moved from a youtube premier to a cinema premier, two weeks before the usual scheduled release. 3) An old clip of a VA making a joke about a name with the term "nega" in it resurfaced, with the joke being it sounds like "nigga."4) The actual final episode leaked, and was both pretty bad from an "actual" writing standpoint (characters get forgotten, huge reveals are glossed over, important events happen offscreen, etc) and a subjective fan standpoint (characters act in ways fans didn't like/expect/find satisfying, most of the runtime is dedicated to the polarizing character which upset both his haters due to the runtime and his fans due to the portrayal). All of these things happened over the course of a few months, and all reinforced each other. For example, 1) meant both haters of the creator felt justified and potential defenders of the creators kept quiet, and that polarizing character is the same character that took up all the screentime in the finale. The youtube delay caused people to want revenge for having to dodge spoilers and feeling like second class fans despite having been the reason for the show's initial success. (1/2)

Besides the translation thing, there's also a selection bias going on with the personality profiles and relationships with the show of people who are able and willing to find the leak and watch it. Moviegoers/youtube-watchers might like the movie more because they're less contrarian and more willing to give it the benefit of the doubt, or because they aren't hardcore and autistic enough to have come up with headcanons or seriously analyzed the writing. On the other hand, they might be more sensitive and what happens to Jax could ruin it for them. I'm looking forward to finding out.
