I see a lot of people make the mistake of thinking Disney is trying to take "boy franchises" and turn them into "girl franchises". If only. Fact is, it's not about getting women to watch, and never has been. Hell, the whole reason they bought MCU and SW was to increase their low male viewer numbers. That's still the goal. But Disney? Make something targeted at men? Nah, they don't have the interest or staff to do that. What we've seen with SW and MCU is an effort to take a franchise men are interested in and then twist it so they "fix" what men enjoy.If they wanted more women to watch Marvel, they'd have gone harder on the romance plots not strip them out entirely. We may look back negatively on the "will they/wont they" elements of both of the first two Spider-man franchises - but they were plots that drew in a lot of women. Especially Gwen in the ASM. Why strip out a proven method of drawing women in? What else do women like? Fashion. Cool creative costume designs. Seems counterproductive then to remove any and all flair from the costumes. Make every female wear frumpy military coded attire. Because they're not trying to get women to watch shows with these costumes, they're trying to get men to stop enjoying sexy designs.

It's not bringing women viewers into the already at capacity Marvel, its bringing the male viewers already there over to their other stuff. The pitch is "Well we've just bought all these male viewers. Do we just leave them in the MCU pen or do we shift them over to all our female centred animations, shows, and films?"But instead of going>Wow, I love Marvel!
