Marvel is clearly doing everything they can to push Cyclops as one of the main X-Men in the eyes of casuals after years of neglect, presumably in preparation for him being the leader in the MCU X-Men reboot. What are some other times Marvel or DC started elevating a character for years in preparation for big media exposure and how effective has it historically been?

Remember when the Inhumans not only were everywhere in the comics but were in every single Marvel cartoon and game because they wanted kids to know about the characters before their super epic awesome movie that was going to make a morbillion dollars?
>>
It's not gonna work. People just like Wolverine better. It's the difference between Batman and Superman. And Anakin and Luke.
>>
>>153895125
Wolverine will still be top dog, but I highly doubt the intent is for Cyclops to outdo Wolverine. They just want him to be popular, after all Batman may be more popular, but Superman is still popular and makes WB lots of money.

I noticed that with the Eternals Marvel didn't even try. They didn't appear in any cartoons or games before the movie came out, even though the movie was delayed for a year. Ikaris and Sersi appeared in a few obligatory mobile game tie-ins, and that's it.

>What are some other times Marvel or DC started elevating a character for years in preparation for big media exposure and how effective has it historically been?
In comics, Marvel started prepping Black Panther, Dr Strange and Carol for their movies by giving them new ongoing titles in advance of them, and in Carol's case, the whole Captain Marvel makeover years in advance. I'm not sure they got that much exposure outside of comics prior to their movie debuts though.

And Cyclops being in a relaunch of an X-Men cartoon he was always in, and being a late addition to Rivals several years in don't exactly scream that he's getting a big push, while Disney's insistence on bringing back the Fox cast of Retirement Home X-Men again and again and again is just going to end up hurting the eventual reboot cast. You're supposed to give a property a rest so people will be more accepting of a new cast, not reboot right after the old cast got yet another send-off. That's how your new cast get a lot of NOT MUH! reactions.

>>153895124
How can we forget? You people are never going to stop bitching about the Inhumans.
>>
>>153896039
Eternals wasn't playing well at the studio internally, even Feige was adamant about the dailies and rough cuts.

The Punch Dimension

Alright then
>>
Rather than a push, it's more like they've decided to stop actively shitting on him. Scott's had a rough couple decades.
>>
>>153896799
Other than him getting killed off early in X-Men 3 because James Marsden was filming another movie, when has anyone actively shat on Cyclops specifically? He still appeared in all X-Men media that was made. For years it was all of the X-Men that Marvel was actively shitting on out of spite over the movie rights.
>>
>>153896245
>I'm not sure they got that much exposure outside of comics prior to their movie debuts though.
Dr. Strange crossed over with almost every other ongoing title at least once, sometimes multiple times, both before and after the movie’s debut. It’s part of how we got Awesome Facial Hair Bros (Strange had to cross over with Tony for marketing reasons). It wasn’t really obvious unless you were following comics at the time, especially since Strange had been relegated to a supporting character that mostly existed in these crossovers for a decade and a half prior to his movie, but it was noticeable at the time.

Carol was aggressively pushed in FUCKING EVERYTHING for almost the entire decade without end, and only now is she just barely starting to be promoted a tiny bit less. She was held up as a perfect goddess who can do no wrong as far back as 2012, and that sort of constant worship lasted long enough for her to be shoehorned into the spotlight of things entirely unrelated to her (like Midnight Suns’ first act) or events that she actively made worse (Civil War II). The fact that Shuri and Kamala are in TOKON but she isn’t genuinely shocks me; I’m not sure the entirety of Marvel has ever been so aggressively infatuated with a character that terrible before.
>>
>>153896427
And White Fox, Devil Dinosaur, Elsa Bloodstone, Angela, Luna Snow…
>>
>>153897478
Carol is also somewhat surprisingly not in Marvel Rivals yet.
>>
>>153894993
>Marvel is clearly doing everything they can to push Cyclops as one of the main X-Men in the eyes of casuals after years of neglect
Then why isn't he in Tokon
>>
>>153898558
Wolverine is still more popular, ovbiously.
>Insert X-Men COTA Savage Land theme
>>
>>153896039
I think it's because Feige was now in control of all of Marvel in 2019 (because of that production decisions have to pivot and would take a while because Feige would have to give orders to multiple departments instead of the movies) and that COVID happened and derailed productions for a lot of things.
>>
>>153896039
And after the movie flopped I don't think the Eternals appeared anywhere outside of comics or any merch. And they mostly stopped appearing in comics after Judgment Day.
>>
>>153900289
Kingo was in an episode of What If
And Ikaris was a zombie in Marvel Zombies

Jeez I wonder why he's so much lower. Stop posting this trash list.

nb4 scott gets shit on in doomsday yet again.
>>
>>153895124
And Cyclops was the new Hitler. For some reason. That turned out to be nothing.
>>
>>153897038
he was captured by stryker in the first 20 minutes of x-2 and never seen again, giving him a whole 3 minutes of screen time. He's the wrong side in schism, he's the villain in avx, he's a pariah in the bendis era, he's killed off in flashback in ivx. I can't even figure out how they brought him back despite actively looking for it before krakoa. They're barely treating better lately, he's still on the wrong side during raid on graymalkin, he's on the wrong side during manhunt.
>>
>>153894993
Too bad they decided to do it after fans stopped caring.

>>153897038
They were shitting on him from the first movie, it was always "Wolverine and Friends". They go out of the way to make him lead like ass so Wolverine gets to come up with the plan that takes down Magneto.
Though to be fair, Storm doesn't get treated any better.
>>
>>153898490
And she isn't in Cosmic Invasion. Thinking Marvel saw the light and finally gave up on her.

Lots of money to you, sure. But nothing compared to Batman, Spidey and even Demon Slayer.

That's a no from me, boyscout Scott up if it stops him being a miserable git like in the recent games where he's actually cool.

I miss them dearly, they ruined less comics than X-Men do. I can't wait to see MCU X-Men fail and Ike the Kike vindicated.

The X-Men are revealed to have blown up multiple earths even before the events of the film proper. Depending on how they handle it, audiences might get a bad impression.

>The X-Men are revealed to have blown up multiple earths even before the events of the film proper.
yeah but that's the kind of shit Scottfags love so they'll be happy, general audiences not so much
>>
>>153904929
the x-men weren't even involved in the hickmanoclypse, planet killing is an avengers thing.

Marvel prefers pushing the most annoying faggot characters ever instead of ones that need more attention. Take Loki, Carol, and Jeff the shark for example.
>>
>>153894993
I find it kinda wild they're pushing Scott this hard considering how "le white straight male hero" tends to either get shat on by authors (for whatever reason: self-hatred, hatred towards actual people, or to push a profit-seeking agenda) these days.

>>153895125
I love seeing Scott get his flowers, but in the long run the Scott push will mean jack shit if they don't actually commit to it. And they have no incentive to do so: if even the comic creators killed the X-Men's story momentum, then what hope is there for the MCU?

Seriously, it's fucking weird how nobody talks about that the MCU X-Men is going to run into some serious problems rather quickly given how the MCU adapts projects:

>Feige and co. don't really read any mainline comic made before the 2000s but MCU X-Men has no choice but to pull from the 90s and the various adaptations made since then
>the MCU likes to kill off villains, but X-Men villains tend to stick around
>the MCU tends to liberally combine characters together but X-Men's narrative doesn't really lend itself to that as easily
>the Fox embargo means there's a criminal lack of 2010s comics to draw from, while the 2020s comics are too messy and equally rushed and drawn out
>>
>>153906739
there's also the tendency to straight up cull defining aspects of characters in order to not draw comparisons to other fictional media or to avoid "feeling repetitive": Moon Knight and Taskmaster got fucked over by this hard
>>
>>153894993
>Nobody mentioned Black Adam yet
>>
>>153906503
what the fuck do you have against Loki
>>
>>153906503
I can't really blame them for pushing Loki or Jeff considering Rivals making Jeff mainstream and Loki's fans being obsessed women with money to burn.

The push for Carol is stupid though, it's literally because Disney wants their own Wonder Woman and is butthurt over the lack of female solo heroes (who aren't already connected to a team or legacy or existing male hero) to market.
>>
They should have done a FoX-Men movie starring Cyclops in a Decimation-style universe.
Like Logan, but for the rest of the X-Men.
>>
>>153906739
We take it for granted already that mcu-men will be bad because of how they handled the hulk and thor and ant-man and ultran and etc etc.
>>
>>153906739
>Seriously, it's fucking weird how nobody talks about that the MCU X-Men is going to run into some serious problems
MCU is going to die when Doomsday flops so it doesn't matter
