Acting like "To me, my X-Men" is a classic catchphrase is one of the surest signs of being a fake X-Men fan. How did it get so bad?
>>153902651The movies
Other signs of being a fake X-Men fan:• saying Professor X and Magneto were based off of MLK and Malcolm X• supporting the sexual orientation swaps• only knowing anything about comics from the past 25 years and not knowing anything from before then• supporting cultish ethnostate Krakoa as a concept and dumbass crap like the Hellfire Gala• saying it makes sense to move past Xavier's goals of coexistence and acting like Magneto's original villainous direction was morally correct• projecting personal hatred of other people onto the humans while pretending you or your group are the mutants
>>153902651>>153902659This. If it's not something enshrined in the canon from the very first issue of a comic more than half a century ago, don't act like it's a thing. 'hurr durr the mythos changes over the years as writers add--" Yeah imma stop you right there Poindexter.
>>153902659It was never said in the movies. But because of them, the fake fans think Magneto's helmet blocking telepathy was always a thing in the comics. Or that Charles is British. Or thinking that Emma is British because of WATXM.
>>153902851Christ your right. Hate these kind of posers like when they wear rock shirt of metal band then get mad when you ask them name five songs.
>>153902851I didn’t mean that it was said in the movies, anon. I meant that the movies are how things got so bad.
>>153902851wasn't Emma british in that solo book she had 20 years ago?
>>153902851This goes with the MCU too. Adapting comics into movies is like translating a message and sending said message to the masses. But they changed a ton of what the message said, so now a majority of the world has it wrong.
>>153902902Still no
I think it was the loudest and craziest X-Men fans being online on places like CBR and Tumblr and Marvel editors and writers thinking they represent X-Men fans and should be pandered to. And letting people write who haven't read the classic comics, so they don't know what's canon and write whatever they want or hear online.
>>153902955No she's from Boston, but I imagine she speaks with that fake Hollywood rich New England elites accent and not like the mom from Ted or any character from The Departed.
>>153902776>only knowing anything about comics from the past 25 years and not knowing anything from before thenI refuse to believe that anyone who claims to like X-Men falls into this category.Everybody and their mum knows about Dark Phoenix.
>>153902651Unless you were born 60+ years ago or desperately want that nerd cred and convince yourself that you like it, being a secondary is the only way you can become a fan of X-Men. Actually picking up the old comics today makes you realize how dogshit the whole thing is.
>>153903957I'm in my early 30s and everything until the 2000s is so much better than what we've gotten in the new century. The difference is night and day. And I say that as someone who got into comics in the late 2000s, well after they got pretty damn bad.
>>153903394They know the general idea (likely from movies or shows or panels posted online) but not fully how it went down in the comics.
TAS was good and didn't stray much from the comics, but it did occasionally and because of it, people think Rogue put Carol in a coma in the comics.
>>153902651I remember Skottie Young making this exact joke where Baby Cyclops has no real catchphrase to respond to "Avengers Assemble" so he just says something like "Unite and stuff"
>>153903355Emma sounds british because Astrid Bloom was and she imprinted on her when Emma fried her brain.
>>153904370kek yep
>>153904370Perfect opportunity to do it avx 1 and they blew it. Anyway the real catchphrase is on the cover of uncanny 139.
>>153902776>• supporting cultish ethnostate Krakoa as a concept and dumbass crap like the Hellfire Gala>• saying it makes sense to move past Xavier's goals of coexistence and acting like Magneto's original villainous direction was morally correctif you want them to be cardboard cutouts who have zero response to 50 years of abject failure then maybe switch to reading dc.
>>153904917>to 50 years of abject failureit's a sliding timeline Cyclops is what in his early 30s so it's been less than 20 years. These things take time and the likes of Magento and others really set the goal back
>>153904801I remember Nuzlocke just having Scott scream "X-Men #YOLO!" for Muh PhoenixNot sure what he actually said in that panel
>>153905034they don't have time, if they hadn't done krakoa they'd all be dead.
Fun fact, the second time the phrase is uttered outside of half a sentence in the first issue is by Pete Wisdom making fun of Professor XWhich means that Warren Ellis is the root cause of it, and Morrison solidifies it in New X-Men
>>153905078nothing
>>153905233Anon, your copy of Muh Phoenix looks weird.
>>153902776>• only knowing anything about comics from the past 25 years and not knowing anything from before thenIt's the opposite, nobody cares about the recent stuff and only knows old shit through references in other forms of media like movies.I'm not an X-Men fan, but know Xavier has an alien girlfriend who de-ages him, and Wolverine's regeneration powers grew the first time his metal skeleton was removed, despite never having read the comics where these things happen. Some is wikipedia, some is discussion on /co/, and some of it is references, like I said.
>>153905251that's just how JRJR draws
>>153904144>>153903957I unironically love X-Treme X-Men (2001) as much as the 70-80s stuff. It's the last time X-Men was a wacky, sexy, fun soap opera with superpowers and angst. It was also the first in-print comic I reached for after seeing the cartoons and comics as a kid. If I'd picked Morrison instead, I probably would have become a tranny or something.
I mean, the point is that a bunch of writers wanted it to be a call-back catchphrase. They just didn't actually put the work into making it work. So whenever it comes up it's just hackneyed and forced. But I also seem to recall that /co/ liked 'To me, my Galactus'. So tangentially what I'm saying is none of you have any taste and should stop pretending you do.
>>153905233is that kitty or magik and either way why is one of her arms colossusized?
>>153905137Thanks to the sliding timescale Decimation happened 2 years ago and lasted about 6 weeks.
>>153905641its magik, and one of her powers is summon eldritch armor, but she usually just does the sword arm now.
>>153905641she has a sword, so she's MagikI don't know when she picked up the armor
>>153902651Never made me feel anything, Avengers Assemble is much better
