Glad there's a thread for this already but I think most people who even knew about this 3rd season/series existing still need some time to binge watch it first. This is my favorite adult animated series and I would love to see people give it a shot and talk about it, but I don't know if it's actually all that well-known or popular.

Will post more once I actually finish the series, just saw the first ep and god I'm happy to see these two again.

There are some rat girls in S1 but they're very minor. I'm guessing it was maybe this lemur woman in S2 (no name, just referred to as "lemur"), who is also a minor character but is slightly more plot-relevant and has more lines.

I hope some anons can give their opinions on season 3 cuz I just finished it all in one sitting and I think it's the most mixed of all of them for me. I really like the first half, I was laughing and invested in the character work just as much as I was in the first 2 seasons. But I felt it not hitting as hard in the second half, and by the end I was actually kind of disappointed. Still got some of those emotional hits that I love the first 2 seasons for, but the pacing and resolution felt messy.
>>
>>153920289
i know what you mean anon making montini a scapegoat for the plot ,having him kill smeralda’s boyfriend so zero’s group doesn’t have to sacrifice anything or risk their own necks feels like a weak solution from the writers and not to mention that at the beginning the armadillo complained to zero that his “do nothing because problems solve themselves” mindset ended up being proven right.and then at the end the armadillo complains to the writers about other decisions when what i mentioned is way worse.
other than that i agree that it’s very funny especially the beginning. Its the season that made me laugh the most and I really enjoyed the animation especially when Secco remembers his days as a Magic fan and they reference “Take On Me.” Id say it had better storyboarding than the previous seasons, even if I didn’t enjoy the ending.

Yeah, like... It's a realistic enough outcome, and Zero dedicating some of his monologue to address that character's issues after the fact is fine. But it takes away basically all the build-up for the whole season and it just feels awkward. No satisfying confrontation and there's not as strong of an emotional aftermath for the characters to lament on. S1 and S2 had both of these things in their finales. The last lines of dialogue & storyboarding for the final few minutes of those seasons are some of my favorite moments. But here, I feel like we don't even get a great send-off for either Wild Boar's family or Smeralda. Just some small talk that isn't punctuated well and then an abrupt cut to the credits.

Definitely agree that the funny scenes and references of this season are still great. That comedy being balanced with a simple and heartfelt story that drives the characters through the season is what makes this one of my favorite adult shows. The ending missing the mark for me is enough to make this my least favorite season, but I'm still ecstatic we got more of the series.
>>
Does anyone have a download link for this and the other ones?
>>
>>153922211
now that you mention it the time-skip scenes didn’t really resonate with me. seeing wild boar in another city running away from the crocodiles made me realize what the writers were doing: they avoided directly confronting the conflict that surprised me because in the previous season they actually dared to show the fight during the pro immigration protest.

I’d say Tear Along the Dotted Line is a good series but it didn’t resonate with me that much; i think it’s hard to get used to so many jokes and constant scene changes.this world can’t tear Me down handled that much better, knowing when to speed up and when to slow down the pacing. I noticed that even more in scenes like the fight in the rain which showed they were capable of presenting dark drama without adding comedy on top of it.
The movement was also handled really well while the characters moved through the rain. that kind of animation is difficult to pull off.i should also clarify that IMO it was the best animated season out of the three

I’m conflicted because the first half is probably my favourite of these series, but the second half is probably my least favourite. Too much characters fucking around doing nothing and doomposting about their lives. That was still present in the previous series, but at least the plot pushed them to do stuff instead of just moping about their lives. I’m not as bothered by the anticlimax as the comics are like that to a fault, constantly reminding you life isn’t a hero’s journey and nothing gets resolved in a neat bow, but are better at justifying that approach than this.
Maybe I gotta come out as a normie but I also didn’t really click with the ending. It got pretty depressing, but then they just spin a lie that they got each other and leave smiling? Wasn’t satisfied with Esmeralda’s ending either, she just got better I guess? Nice to see not all his love interests had a horrific fate, but it felt like a cop out to not leave things in too dour of a note. I would have preferred a straight adaptation of the squid comic.
>>
>>153923585
>the first half is probably my favourite of these series, but the second half is probably my least favourite
This is exactly how I felt, which just makes it sting even more. I was excited by how so many things got set up right from the start:

- the first scene showing you that something big is going to happen
- Zero owning a cafe with Wild Boar
- an old friend crashing at Zero's place
- Sarah's relationship being focused on for the first time
- Secco's absence and reveal of his fatherhood

Tthe first few episodes felt so fast when I was watching them, I was so into it. But when the second half started, I felt like the pacing was worse, I noticed I was laughing less, and nearly every single thing I liked at the start doesn't get as satisfying of a payoff as I wanted.

>I’m not as bothered by the anticlimax as the comics are like that to a fault
I've read a few of his comics so far, and I do kind of appreciate when some of his story beats are mundane or anticlimactic on purpose. I feel like it usually fits the story since these are all just a bunch of regular guys. As realistic as "Oh yeah, me and Smeralda didn't get one big heart-to-heart before she left since she really only stayed a couple days and our last interaction was a random, short conversation at the mall", I dunno. I think I just wanted more than that.

Not even just Smeralda, I wish we got to see more of Zero and Secco arguing about their drifting apart (tho this doesn't bother me nearly as much since that's what you'd expect out of those two, lol. Plus Secco being a main character means he can easily appear later for more development). Sarah's resolution I like a good bit, since she's still in a pretty bad state of mind by the end of it and I think that's interesting and believable. Wild Boar's resolution is also realistic and a pretty harsh yet fitting consequence for his actions. But like, I care significantly less about the boar family than Alice or Cesare's stories.
>>
>>153910858
Also for comparison, this is each season's combined episode run time:

- 1 hr. 58 min. (Tear Along the Dotted Line)
- 2 hr. 57 min. (This World Can't Tear Me Down)
- 4 hr. 50 min. (My Two Cents)

Season 3 is two whole hours longer than Season 2

S1 will probably always be my personal favorite. It does have much more rapid-fire jokes and the character work isn't as big of a focus until the end, but I think that's a compromise many first seasons do to hook a wider audience.

S2 is the best overall imo, the payoff of everything coming together at the end and every character feeling so involved and getting their own moments is handled great. Like, I don't enjoy Cesare as a character much but the way his conflict affects both the characters and the central plot is very satisfying to watch. Felt like we explored so much of the setting too, seeing the different sides and talking to a lot of side characters.

Don't know how I fully feel about S3 just yet, I probably need to sit on it some more and maybe rewatch it to really get the things I didn't like about it. I've rewatched S1 and S2 with friends and I felt just as positively as the first time I sat through them, but S3 is kind of just a mess in my head atm.

I noticed Lemur is one of the characters closest to the main cast in the S2 poster, which is nice. And after S3, she's probably the most prominent side character besides Pterodactyl girl.

I'm not as familiar with the comics, but I've recognized like 5 comic characters throughout the show and they've all been background cameos OR they're lucky enough to get one line of dialogue. At least lemur got to escape that fate and actually affects the plot in S3.

Is the humor too local for outsiders to understand?
>>
>>153935251
I'd say maybe 10-15% of his jokes are Italy-specific. Like shit-talking a specific Italian city/district/historic notion or making a joke about a person who's only famous in Italy. Very few times does it feel like a joke is lost due to translation, so that's good. (saying all this as a non-Italian who only speaks English, so grain of salt)

On the other hand, this creator has a distinct style of talking a FUCKTON, so he might have a 2-minute rant of a joke that's hard to follow or doesn't make sense. Not because it's regional humor, but because he's just kind of crazy in the head and it makes him explain things in weird ways. The humor has more hits than misses, imo.

After some quick Googling, it seems that only a handful of his books have been officially translated and sold in English, and most of them are only available as eBooks/Kindle versions. Those being (in release order):

- The Armadillo Prophecy
- Kobane Calling
- Tentacles at my Throat
- Forget my Name (only one I could see an English physical for)

I've only read some of his stuff years ago on readcomiconline, which got taken down recently. Some of them are on libgen.li also. My favorite comics of his were 'Tentacles at my Throat' and 'Skeletons'.

>Are these seasons adaptations of his comics or are they new stories featuring the characters?
So from what I've read, none of the animated series are 1-to-1 adaptations of any of his comic books. Even if you read all of his comics first, the animated series will all be pretty much new stories. Some of the themes/plot points/characters in the comics will be handled differently or retooled a bit.

For example, Alice from S1 is an original character for the Netflix series, but her story beats are explored through a different character in the comics named Camille. It's not just the creator changing the name and the design, the two have different backstories and stuff.

Another example is Secco's fatherhood being revealed and handled differently in the comic I read (Skeletons). Since I read the comic first, I knew what to expect when they started hinting at it in S3, but it still plays out a lot different 'cause S3 is a different story than 'Skeletons'.

>So are the furries/animal people real or is Zero a schizo?
Animal/object people existing is more so a cartoony liberty than them actually being animal people co-existing with human people. Lemur girl won't get accused of shedding fur everywhere and pterodactyl girl won't ever make a jab at how big her fucking head sticks out in front of people. It's just how the creator wanted these characters to look in the story for one reason or another.

Google tells me he's called "Amico Supplì" which translates to "Cheese-rice ball Friend". Don't know anything about him besides he's one of the dozen or so characters that exists in the comic but only get a few background shots in the Netflix series.

He's got a figure in the Zerocalcare 3D collection tho, there's apparently a whole bunch of these things. Only for the comic versions, so none of the Netflix only characters.
