What are your true thoughts on Illumination?

David Feiss deserves better than being shackled to Minions trash.
>>
>>153916095
it sucks that their output keeps getting worse and worse

Only one of them do, the rest are redditors
>>
Good technical talent and artists let down by bad stories and writing.

The McDonald's of animation studios.
It's junk food, and it's fine to like junk food. Just don't pretend its anything more
>>
I found it really confused that people genuinely like their films. They're well-animated by ultra soulless. And since the average person knows nothing about animation, I assumed the soulless aspect would ultimately turn people off. Since I can't think of any other explanation, I guess the animation subliminally makes the films appear really good.

They made one good film (Migration) and that was it. Hiring the TTG creators was a mistake.
>>
>>153916095
They have their strengths and weaknesses, as do all major film studios.

Studio who's proud of its constant C minus output
>>
>>153924755
I'd say it's a straight F. They don't get a minus because their animation improved.
>>
>>153924963
But they make money so we're stuck with their mediocrity for another decade or so
>>
It's kind of amazing how everything they've ever made, besides Sing, was bad
>>
>>153925699
Enjoyable doesn't mean good, anon. They had fun bits, but characters were horrible. Especially the koala.
>>
>>153926372
>the koala
Him? And not the German Nick Kroll pig? I personally thought he was far worse.
>>
They slap a bunch of eight minute vignettes into a movie loosely held together by some semblance of a plot.
I don't understand why the fuck Sing is still super popular with kids but it is.
>>
>>153927953
It's the songs, which is why Trolls became a franchise.
>>
>>153916095
They make money, not films.
They are the perfect creatively bankrupt studio, masters of sticking to the formula and putting in only as little effort as necessary. They'll even ruin the movie altogether on a request from their financier like they did with Mario Galaxy, they truly give no fucks.

Illumination had a good thing going with those first two Despicable Me films, but they expectedly stopped caring about quality and resorted to pumping out Minions content soon as they realized THAT'S where most of the money could be coming from.
>>
>>153916095
Will Illumination ever be good longterm?
>>
>>153916095
I’m glad they’ve opened more eyes to how fucking stupid Miyamoto is and that Nintendo would only benefit from completely cutting him off from the games division of the company.
Let him play dolls with the films, just don’t let him touch gamedev with a fucking 100 mile pole.

The animation is good and their movies are atleast somewhat entertaining, with some exceptions. Basically it's an easy pick for parents to watch with their kids.
>>
>>153927953
Kids like music. Kids like animal characters. Kids like animal characters singing.
>>
>>153926372
What's the problem with Buster Moon? He's about as entertaining as anyone else in the movie.
>>
>>153932126
They already peaked with Despicable Me 1 and still haven't surpassed it
