Well ya, what if? You got an answer or are you gonna keep acting like a woman?
>>
What if super villains were... LE GOOD?

>>153917664
the comic is about corporation and celebrities.

They dont fight crime in the comic.
>>
I am tired of pretending a comic book for manchildren being parodied is some sort of cultural crisis. Nobody gives a shit about Superman.

There is some very limited idea of crimefighting in The Boys.
It makes me curious who Homelander or the Seven even do. I vaguely recall Starlight saying she was disappointed in that aspect because they do nothing but media appearances.
>>
>>153917969
The first Payback team aparantly was a crimefight team.
It is imply that "vigilantism" is not legal but some heros try as a PR, Homelander is imply to Kill some supes that go rogue (and rebrand as villians).
The Young Americans did help in natural disasters but far away from the big centers where the real rescue teams would notice that they are not prepared for the job.

It's imply that as heros has no tranning they cant do real crimefight or rescue people, they just sell comics and do mershandise.
>>
>We had decades of superhero being good
>But one or two of them being bad is somehow too much
>>
>>153918393
It's because those early decades are full of shit. Superhero comics started getting good once the concept was being called into question. It started small with stuff like Ditko's Spider-Man and a few others, but didn't reach fruition until the 80s. People won't admit this.

>>153917808
Megamind and despicable me were pretty good. I am surprised that no cape writer ever had a story that started with a generic super villain becoming a good guy from their PoV. Yeah plastic man exists but he wasn't a super villain but a bad guy who got powers and reformed into a Superhero. There was never him as a super villain stretchy guy.

This scenarion never made sense to me, all the things supers do is purely for PR reasons and to keep Vought American branding raking in cash. Was this just a slip up because they really wanted to hammer in that yes, this character is a Batman stand in.

I feel like the discussion is “so edgy” while the guy spends the whole book referencing storylines that none of the casual readers, and especially normies, would get. Like, the X-Men parody is just like X-Men, but Ennies made a few changes
>Storm
now a Black woman named Nubia
>Beast
He looks like Alf
>Phoenix bitch
The whole thing is like the Phoenix Saga

Where are the people who got that this is about the Phoenix Saga? I also like how Ennies puts together his Superman parody. So far, his favoritism toward the character, even as a parody, makes him more interesting than the mainline hero himself. Who, to be honest, is a total bore

Super heroes and super villains alike are all corporate made product to sell the idea of supes to the public. The Legend explains as much telling you the reason you don't see super villains actually trying to take over the world is because ruling the world takes actual work and is a real pain in the ass, so they're happy to just put on their play and get their paycheck.
Dear Becky goes even further on explaining this shit with the fake villain team known as Malevolents.

I think it's because early in the comic, the idea was the ""superheroes"" were more like actual superheroes, who fought crime and saved people, it was all probably completely staged of course but i guess the idea had more to it than branding.

we also see that the crimefight never happens after the initial comics.

I dont entirely understand this genre because, at its smartest, it decides that someone with Superman-like abilities would get tired of helping people (or begin to resent those without powers) and gradually turn bad. This isn't universal (I'd argue it isn't even common; evil is mundane) but I can understand the concept: there's a change that stems from dissatisfaction, disillusionment, greed. These are real things even decent people feel, just without extreme expression. But then the story progresses, the hero does bad things and the hero's fulfilling this impulse... and then the former "hero" stops having any of those character flaws the moment he has done bad things and has transitioned into villain.

If that's too many words, the character has a single (negative) arc but then all the things that motivated such an arc disappear. It's hard to believe that someone who yearns for more and will pursue it aggressively just stops the moment he attains it. Greed doesn't have a limit. Ambitious human beings don't stop being ambitious because they've succeeded to some degree. The stories never really tackle what happens when that is accomplished; the writers have this childish idea of "all people want power and the ability to abuse it!" when that's not really the human impulse they are portraying.

I know Homelander does not actually win in the show (and he has entirely different motivations in the comic) but I still find it strange he didn't get bored with power. People who attain power but get bored with it often decide they have a higher purpose. They often loop back into trying to be "benevolent" because they're just so powerful and megalomaniacal. But that might be too cerebral of an assessment for this product where some guy in underpants hurls a family of four fifty miles off the ground, and our "hero" Billy Butcher looks and sounds like a Redditor.

I would have liked The Boys if Ennis had made it more of a critique of the industry and less wallowing in filth. Kirby knew how to be tasteful about it.

this was a big flaw with the finale. he was basically a god but was still miserable. he should have either snapped and lasered everyone, tried to be a real superman to gain love, or just let butcher kill him. having him beg in the most pathetic way after being upset by the word father in the speech without any sort of plan just made no sense.

It's the same as in real life. Our superheroes, who make billions for megacorps and tens of millions for themselves, are just actors. Robert Downey Jr. is a washed-up addict who never fought a criminal in his life, Scarlett Johanssen fucked Weinstein etc.
The difference is in the Boys the actors have actual superheroes that allow them to put on a better act. Imagine if Spider-Man came to your kid's birthday party and actually shot web and swung between buildings. Your kid would lose his shit.

>>
>>153935978

It is, but that's also because 2000s comics had it rough with inking due to going digital and EVERYBODY experimented on it, that's already troubling but then you have scanning problem that already makes it worse.

Since these threads are inevitably shit and offtopic, does anyone know what site is best for torrenting comics?
I don't want to read online, I have my own setup for reading manga and like having the full two pages spread out in front of me like a physical comic, but I can't for the life of me figure out where you people get these things. Every single person talking about comic piracy seems to just suggest reading on some fucking website.
