These are old polls from Wizard in the early 00s. How well does this hold up now?

For real Wolverine? Thanks for the tip!
>>
>>153919552
I kinda wonder which would get even more hate now, variant covers or constant relaunches
>>
Kind of off-topic, but since we’re discussing Wizard again, I figured I should throw out there that I grew up obsessed with the American Shonen Jump magazine and was a huge snob about it, but, looking back, it really was just Wizard for weebs. I feel like such a cornball.
>>
>>153919688
I have this book about anime from either 1999 or 2000 that was made by a pre use of the word weeb. It's kinda of informative for the time, BUT, the person who wrote it did it kind of informally so there's alot of moments in it where they have sperg outs about whatever made them happy or angry.
>>
>>153919688
It might sound like a platitude, but I really do think almost everyone has that sort of thing happen at least once. As a kid we might latch on to things but a part of us accepts fads come and go, during the years between teenage and adulthood our passion continues to grow but we start trying to form a firm idea of what to root our identity around to find our tribe, fit in, climb the ladder, so often people become very obstinate about what's trivial because of lack of awareness compounded with complexes over what life's really about from the limited experiences they have.

Before I wandered in to the more ephemeral ways of 4chan which became more my temp, I remember a lot of Forums reinforced the idea certain things were life and death based on thread longevity and post count. You're were either always up on the up and up and in, or you were down and out.
>>
>>153919688
How the fuck are they even comparable? SJ was an anthology, while Wizard wasn't.

The majority got something right, but since two of those still float whoever voted is still buying anyway.

depressing how every single one of those fads has not only stuck around, but arguably overshadowed the actual comics themselves by this point

>>
>>153919602
I would say varient covers cause tbey dont change the dog shit inside. At leadt with a relaunch, there is a chance (however infantesimal) that it will be better than the previous. Then again, some "relaunches" are just the previous run but just fuck up the chapters, sp wjat do I know.

Don't forget shitting on Year One and writing a 12 issue series so bad it was canceled at issue 6 in a huge cliffhanger.
>>
>>153922222
Avengers and FF handed over to Leidfeld and some others to try and fix their sales slumps. They all got rebooted in a pocket universe (and were "killed off" in the main one)

Eh, it was about he-man and then he appeared near the end of the first season. It wasn't terrible by any stretch.
>>
>>153922307
It wasn't just Clerks, he also did Mallrats and had Stan Lee cameo in it, and Chasing Amy he got Joe Quesada and Mike Allred to make an appearance. To people in comics at the time, they saw him as like the connector between the Hollywood and normie worlds and the comic world

Quesada then got him to write Daredevil and that was popular

>superman marrying Lois
was it fucked up or was this another spiderman/mj thing where the writers take out their misery on a comic character?
>>
>>153919461
It's kind of a cheat for them to put "Heroes Reborn" and "Rob Liefeld's Captain America" since Liefeld's Cap was part of Heroes Reborn
>>

People forget how prolific and popular Kevin Smith was before he melted his brain chain smoking weed for a decade.
>>
>>153919461

>>153922737
It was coming from stubborn Earth One Superman fans like Waid, Morrison, Millar, and Austen who either never wanted Superman married because that wasn't the character they grew up with or they were mad because he settled down with the "wrong" character.

What's with the weird use of "Quotation" marks?
>>

I honestly think it was probably some kind of ballot stuffing done by people who were in the know about the Superman 2000 plan and were trying to push the anti-marriage thing, but didn't realize there were waayyy more fans who were still pissed about Hal not being GL and even more fans pissed about Liefeld or the Clone Saga

To be honest, Morrison grown up of that. Superman and the authority has a good moment of both.
Austen was more a tard that wanted Lana to fuck Clark. Hilarious how the guy who posted "Lois is a goldigger" is the one helping on Steven Universe and She-ra

Huh. Interesting.

Cass Cain was one of DC's top selling comics in those first years. Then DC tanked sales by following up Damion Scott with one of the worst artists to ever put pencil to paper.

Complaints don't mean a thing when the market decides this is the way to make money. People will complain about it while they're financially supporting it.

It’s weird how audiences have been saying for 25+ years that they hate issue one relaunches but yet they’re still doing it all the time.

SJ was for kids so they can be forgiven.
Wizards audience was Gen Xer nostalgia nerds who should have dropped out of the hobby years ago but still cling on.

>It’s weird how audiences have been saying for 25+ years that they hate issue one relaunches but yet they’re still doing it all the time.
Because it works.
>>
>>153932791
It turns out it only works in the short-term and if the relaunch has a large enough space between #1s. ANAD was a disaster because they relaunched everything including comics that were only like 8 issues in. Now they're relaunching stuff after five issues. That's not the sign of a good strategy
>>
>>153932562
It seems obvious: Infectious Lass assumes they're targeting her, The Hot One, but they're actually after Traci because they have Yellow Fever. Now, WHY that's what's happening, and why them being "Gecks" would explain it, is a bit cryptic.
>>
>>153933213
It's my understanding that they're just canceling low-selling series after five issues, and that's a good call to make. Marvel's not going to publish the next Sandman, never have.
>>
>>153931913
>>Spider-man
>lol
Anon, this was right after the clone saga and just as Ultimate Spider-Man was starting. Even with Wizard’s readerbase being retarded, it’s easy to see how anyone might’ve considered the early 2000s to be an improvement over the 90s for Spidey specifically.
>>
>>153926070
>pretending to be German because you're embarrassed of your real nationality
Sad.
>>
>>153933452
The clone saga ended in 1996. What happened next was four years of incredibly boring comics and John Byrne trying to scrape the Man of Steel barrel. Ultimate Spider-Man followed by JMS on Amazing made Spider-Man interesting again.
>>
>>153931831
He also revealed it to some guy instead of Dick or whoever
>>
>>153933547
Yes, exactly. The Spider-90s were full of either forgettable blandness or terrible, TERRIBLE ideas that still got the green light for no good reason. The 2000s were at least trying something new with Ultimate, and the totem shit + OMD hadn’t kicked in yet, so the poll’s pretty reasonable in-context.

I do wonder how different it’d look if it was taken in 2009, though. Or even just 2007.

>Savage Dragon

>>
>>153932791
>>153933423
DC since nu52 mostly wait between 50-100 for a relaunch and that's work for the best (something wait longer like Nightwing or Batman).Spiderman also relaunch after that range .
The problem with releasing every 10-20 issues is that after the third relaunch nobody is gonna still buy comics outside the first issue
>>
>>153918076
>>153918144
Man this aged horribly in real time

>>153919461
This, however, aged like wine. Oh snap >>153919552 beat me to it
>>
>>153922620
It's a cheat, but that's how much those guys hated Liefeld. I'm not saying NOBODY hated them, but a lot of the seething about Liefeld and the Clone Saga owe a lot to Wizard being the fanboy tastemaker in the 90s, telling you what your opinion was on something you might not have been reading.

Wizard spearheaded a fan campaign to keep Waid on the Captain America book after the Heroes Reborn contract was already a done deal.
>>
>>153931341
Readers couldn't choose write-in options for those polls, so Batgirl being an option means the people at Wizard like the book and made it an option.
>>
>>153931970
>>153931970
Speculators are not the market to cater to for long term growth
