Personally I think it's reasonable that Jax didn't want to bare his everything to people he would be forced to associate with for an untold amount of time, even to friends. It's not like Ragatha talked about her mother until episode 5 or whatever, despite being around forever, or however the scene is framed. If I thought I killed my mother I wouldn't want anyone to know, and I would find disgust in myself for sharing it. I already don't tell my decade/half-life-long friends about sensitive things that aren't even my fault.
