>>153934832Lisa was never good.
>>153934832>I think it distracts people from more important social issues. This is such a pathetic thing to say. She ought to have the same opinion on literally every form of entertainment and recreation.
>>153937005She's a hypocrite anyways. Remember when she relentlessly jerked off Lady Gaga?
>>153934935Popular music has been mostly horseshit since about 1997 and completely horseshit since about 2007. And that's being extremely generous, you could probably push that date back more to 1987 if you remember the alternative scene of the early to mid 90s rarely topped the charts and is just what people remember the most.
>>153937140Music was always shit. That's why we don't make any anymore because AI has made everyone smart enough to understand this.

>>153937140This is sadly the truth but it was also shit before 1964 too, a lot of popular music from before then were just silly catchy tunes that are now often associated with children's songs. Popular music only ever was really good for like 25-ish years and made exclusively by Silent Gen, Baby Boomers, and Gen X.
You people browse /co/, get off your high horse about music taste.
>>153934935she's not judging it on taste she's judging it because it lets people tune out her lecturing
>>153937569>none of the Great American Songbook canon existed
>>153937569It is kind of amazing growing up on 60s music my dad showed me, and seeing how it evolved from silly catchy pop songs to deep, insanely complex shit with like orchestras. It's like watching a medieval flute-and-tambourine ensemble evolve into baroque harpsichord symphonies within like 3-4 years. But the culture surrounding it is even more fascinating. Finding out that, yes, actually, popular music WAS about drugs and sex (and being around black people, which was considered synonymous with those and with music). The bluenoses just refused to say that out loud because they're such puritans. And also, the kooky radicals immediately turned on their heroes the moment they either refused to push violent anarchist messages, or pushed more even-handed ones like "I just wanna see the plan." So like, you couldn't fucking win. Just really interesting culture to look into.
>>153937605comics have actually had an eerily close relationship to music, in terms of quality>60s is suddenly good after some years of being meh, even if there were certainly ambitious strides made in the 30s-40s>70s builds even harder and makes crazy awesome shit>80s hits perfection but also diversifies a bit too much, and starts leaning into pandering to small subcultures>90s is still kind of cool but obviously on its way out>everything in the 21st century is garbage, and will be foreverit's basically 1:1
>>153937691>silly catchy tunes that are now often associated with children's songs.Yeah he addressed those
>>153937605Nah that falls under the "every board is shit at its own topic but better at topics not related to the board" rule. I'd frankly rather trust what people were talking about in regards to music on any board outside of /mu/. Especially modern /mu/, that board's fallen harder than even /co/ has.
