Is anyone even watching this Edition
>>
>>153936417
How was Sony able to make this show if Disney owns TV rights to Spider-Man? Is there a loophole that it’s technically a different character?
>>
>>153936417
>Is anyone even watching this
no the black and white option doesn't show up on Amazon on my tv so I won't bother
>>
>>153936417
Black & White or Colored /co/?
>>
>>153936417
I saw 3 episodes last night. It's my jam, but fuck it's hard to recommend to people

>It's super cheesy
Which I gove a pass because the noir theme. Kind of like who frammed Roger Rabbit
>Bad cgi
Which the black and white hides well
>Nicholas Cage's acting
Fuck man. It's part of the fun to see him, and wonder what kind of acting you're going to get.

On positive the cinematography is really good for black and white

My only negative thing is when they want to tackle race. It's like come the fuck on your Dinaey+ don't go thinking your all that.
>>
>>153936558
>My only negative thing is when they want to tackle race. It's like come the fuck on your Dinaey+ don't go thinking your all that.
everything else sounds good, how often and prevelant is that? good way of doing it or just ham fisted and nonsensical?
>>
>>153937917
It’s mentioned here and there because of the setting and the main black guy is referred to as a negro at one point but don’t expect hard Rs or rampant racism, this is a Spider-Man show after all.
>>
>>153938121
ah that doesn't sound too bad then. i'll check it out this weekend thanks anon.
>>
>>153936417
I can see clear as the day Sony had to make it apart enough from Spidey to not rustle Disney's jimmies.
Still Nic Cage in a BW Noir is kino from the oven.
>>
>>153936558
>My only negative thing is when they want to tackle race
Not a negative if you're not overly sensitive to that.

It was genuinely very good, I'm such a hater of all the shows and moves in the past several years but this one surprised me

Season 1 of btas but spider vibes
>>
>>153936483
They put so much deliberate effort into making the colors so saturated and vibrant you're really missing out by watching it black and white

Colored first, black on second watch
>>
>>153936436
That's why they call him Ben Reilly
>>
>>153940876
The colored version gives me Dick Tracy vibes
>>
>>153937917
>how often and prevelant is that?
I'm on episode 6 and so far the biggest one is Thombstone going "I'm done risking my life for the white man". Also everyone at the Bugle gives Robbie the stinkeye but I'm not sure if that's a race think or because he was fired on really bad terms.
>>
>>153936558
>tackle race
I’m just glad that they even kept to the time period, I expected them to handwave into existence a progressive race-blind 1930s New York
>>
Fucking love it.
>>
>>153941449
>I expected them to handwave into existence a progressive race-blind 1930s New York
The lastest Batman cartoon did that.
>>
>>153941399
That's a normal thing blacks would say, it's not really playing a gay race communist for a modern audience angle

Also important to remember even though this is a period piece this is happening in New York not the deep south, My Grandpa was a kid during this time period he said that they would play with the black kids all the same it wasn't really a big deal

Blacks and whites got along with each other on an individual basis just fine
>>
>>153936417
I'm starting to hate live action shows. It's all talking and no action.
>>
>>153936436
He's not spider-man, he's The Spider
And he IS the same guy from the spiderverse movie
Ben Reily is an alias he took on, they never actually say his real name but obviously its Peter Parker
So they say it without saying it
>>
Fuck man, this is one of those shows I was sad it ended because I can't watch it for the first time again

But at least they saw fit to make two versions
>>
>>153942138 #
That confused me because they say he changed his name after the war but during the flasback to the prisoner camp they still call him Reilly
>>
>>153942336
That’s either a goof, or Ben is acting as an unreliable narrator to keep his old name hidden from Cat.
>>
>>153942336
I forget was that a straight or was that him recounting the story to someone else?
If it was a memory that seems like an error on their part, but if it was him telling the story then he used his fake name while telling it so it was reflected in the scene

Tom Holland's Peter would’ve kissed her ass and wished good luck to Flint and Cat.

I know it's all part of the character he never gets the girl, but every time I'm still hopeful
>>
Just finished and loved it, I expected Megawatt and Sandman to just be your typical henchmen with not much going on for them and was pleasently surprised.
>>
Maybe the reason they can't say "Peter Parker" if because they broke some of the rules they have for the character, particularly smoking and drinking
>>

>>
>>153943262

>>
>>153942138
>And he IS the same guy from the spiderverse movie

He really isn't. Watch his origin in the first Spider-Verse movie again, he's bitten by a spider. In Spider-Noir he's bitten by a mutated patient who got injected with genetic spider material for a an experiment
>>
>instead of just editing
>they shot the whole show again in color to get more money

HOLY FUCKING BASED
CAGE
>>
>>153936436
Let me elaborate
Sony owns the Spider-Man LIVE ACTION television rights, they always have even before the MCU deal. What Disney owns (in terms of television) is the right to make Spider-Man cartoons with episodes under 45 minutes e.g. Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.
And yes Sony can make Spider-Man cartoons if they stretch the episodes to over 45 minutes Invincible-style because they're considered animated features after thar mark like the Spider-Verse movies. It's a fun loophole that would allow them to make more seasons of Spectacular Spider-Man if they wanted.
The whole Ben Reilly-The Spider thing, even if Sony calls that a creative decision, is because Marvel forbids the portrayal of Peter Parker/Spider-Man as a guy who smokes, drinks or curses. And I shit you not, this was all confirmed by that one big Sony e-mail leak years ago.

Opinions on Noir's friends?
>Janet
>Robbie
>Frankie
I thought it was cute that Janet was trying to teach Frankie how to read and write, as it shows they aren't just using that poor kid, they actually care about him. Getting Robbie Robertson back in Spider-Man media is great. It's funny that he's way younger than Spidey here.
>>
>>153946226
Yes, it's on Prime. They dropped all 8 episodes at once
>>
>>153946255
All the villains are spider man villains
>Tombstone
>Sandman
>Megawatt
>Silvermane
>>
>>153946397
>Frankie
I love the little scamp.but yeah nice to see them actually try to teach him. As I mentioned before it's a little over acting, but at least fits the vibe of the show

>Robbie
He's an interesting character, I'll say that. He tends to pull the race card but only to get what he wants, I liked how the other guy clock that and told him "don't call me brother" it does suck that they twisted his report. It's nice to see a reporter character in a Spider-Man show.

>Janet
I didn't think I like her as much as I did. At first I did feel bad for her and Reily not having any money. I like how she's willing to pull out a gun when she needs to, the poler was also a nice scene to interrogate without coming on too strong.

>>
>>153948057
You know they don't have to make it out of actual leather, right? Costumers have a ton of options for materials when it comes to stuff like that, just look at the Deadpool mask as a good example that worked fine.

Talking about leather reminds me of 2000 X-Men movie. I think the actor he played cyclops twisted his ankle or some thpe of leg injury trying to jump over a ledge. For reason the night time scene at the statue of liberty had to be shot first.

They had to move around in the brand new leather costume, this meant the leather wasn't broken in yet. Which made jumping over a small cement ledge very hard, and thus cuased the accident for Cyclops actor.

Yeah, the wool mask also grew on me as the series went on. It looks homemade, but unlike other DIY suits, it doesn't look like shit. It feels like a deliberate attempt to pull audiences away from the usual synthetic capeshit live action costumes.
>>153948078
Deadpool's costume is fine. But something syntheric looking like that wouldn't fit the 30s aesthetic. They could have made it look like leather I guess, but they wanted to keep the looks of everyone grounded and gritty.

This is Sony's first win after those villain movies gigaflopped so I doubt they're letting it go that easy.
But yeah I wouldn't mind if this was a one and done. I hope their takeaway from this is that people want to see more Spider-people, not a heroic Kraven the Hunter played by the dude from Kick Ass.

They completely botched "CAT HARDY", both as a Felicia variant and a genre Feme Fatale. We should have had a Jessica Rabbit, not a stern and stoic chinese grandmother. They should have had Mary Jane as the Singer/ Club performer and Felicia as her bad girl self. The ladies are working together to bring down Silvermane for different reasons. Maybe there could have even been a love triangle, something to keep me from falling asleep.

It was literally shot for black and white, right down to the lighting retard. The color version is a neat gimmick, but not the primary intended way to experience it.
>>
>>153951878
If it was meant to be watched in black and white they would have filmed it in black and white then colorized it

They filmed it in color then filtered

>>
>>153951969
>they would have filmed it in black and white then colorized it
They literally did. The cameras were set up to capture in black and white natively. They were outputting black and white to the monitors during filming. The entire thing was designed for black and white. They captured color data separately to use for the colorized version, but the filming process was planned for the black and white version.

The ww1 setting is weird because Germans weren't doing nazi shit, that popped off because Germany was building railways which allowed them to conduct trade over long distances across the land. the english didn't like that because their naval power had a strangle hold over all the shipping routes and Germany was circumventing that
It's the same shit they pulled flooding China with opium, there was a foreign nation growing in economic and industrial power so they had to snuff it out

Then of course ww2 happened as a sequel to ww1
Basically every atrocity that came from those wars is singularly the fault of the English
