The problem with post-S5 Finn is that you can tell that Muto was trying to be clever and "deconstruct" the premise of Finn but it doesn't work because it has to basically fucking ignore Jake's entire existence and ascertained presence on Finn's development in his life. The logical conclusion for Finn's (shitty) new story direction would be that the narrative points to Jake and Finn's relationship as the root cause for Finn's fuckups with Jake as the older brother/substitute father who failed to prime Finn for the nuances of relationships and deeper connections with the outside world. Finn might have serious parental issues, but Jake was raising him after Margaret and Joshua died, and Margaret and Joshua didn't do half-bad on their end.

Except this doesn't happen and it can't happen because that would mean making Jake look bad and breaking the Finn and Jake dynamic that makes up the heart of the show.

It just goes to show that you shouldn't pull a Venture Bros or Pluto on your story when you're not done telling it. Same thing happened to Steven Universe Future. Otherwise, you just make things ugly and miserable.

Generally related to the whole concept of AT's identity morphing over time, but I remember that one episode where Finn got special eyes, and made the characters change into how he saw them, got on my nerves. They made him see PB as some short-haired tomboy because that's apparently what the writers thought of her by then. Original Finn would've seen her as a cute and very attractive feminine woman. You could still do that with adding in him seeing her as an attractive leader (queen-ish, but not in the annoying way), but I guess just making her feminine was dead in the water by then.

Finn doesn't have an excuse though because he went through seasons with her before they changed her.
