>>153941550Honestly? The movie is the very very rare example of being a better movie than the source comics. The comic were more of a love story since Stevens was trying to save his marriage to his scream queen wife. Cliff is supposed to be the main character but he's ineffectual. It also doesn't help that in the end it all turns out to be a Doc Savage adventure and Doc actually invented the rocket pack but Stevens just tip toes around directly saying so he wouldn't get sued.

But then Billy Campbell got cast as the lead and they hit it off immediately, and Connely quickly drifted away from him. The funny thing is, Cliff is very transparently meant to be like Dave Stevens himself, so in a sense Dave got his girl taken by an idealized version of himself.
