James' introduction was a genuine shock because the number of times Taeshi has altered the status quo within the last decade could be counted on one hand. Maybe he just respects her and feels an internal guilt over his misogyny when he tries to flirt with her because he knows deep down it's objectification. Maybe he really DOES love her romantically. Sue doesn't even have to reciprocate the feelings, just enough good moments to start stress-testing the couple. Let me see Paulo choose Daisy instead of Daisy choosing Paulo for once.I always got the feeling Suitcase didn't actually care, and it was just a hand-wave of an answer.
