This was actually a good way to show Rick's depression, no therapyspeak, no heavyhanded commentary, just an absurd and a pretty funny premise that culminates in a sad disappointment. Leagues above that dog shit unity episode.
So I get that the hicks look human despite being aliens as to fool the audience into thinking Rick is still on earth and/or so that Rick can just blend in seamlessly, I understand the point. If you can't see what that means thematically, then you're clearly the type of person they have to spell everything out to in movies today.The only thing we haven't seen yet is C137 abandoning Evil Morty (before he was evil) for Rick Prime's family, because his obsession was all consuming. Evil Morty probably didn't take the abandonment well, but being raised by a Rick his whole life could have easily given him the tools and knowhow to universe hop and find a replacement. With that info he definitely would have the means to realize if C-137 Rick was the same Rick raising him from being a baby to a teenager. Even without the downloaded memory he should have been able to realize it was the Rick who raised him.Also Evil Morty's background story indicates he's had multiple Ricks in the past since one of the first things he does is delete himself off the Morty directory database (place for Rick's to get new Mortys). This is also backed up with how he talks as if he has experience with multiple Ricks and explains why he hates them all instead of just his own specific Rick. It's very likely he was one of those mass produced Morty clones.

Biggest dud of S4 was the Dragon episode but it still had an enjoyable B plot to prop it up which I can’t say for the show’s actual worst episodes. S9 has been on a very strong start and hopefully it keeps this up without a sinking middle like S5 (though I liked the Thanksgiving special). Ultimately I’ve stuck with this show through thick and thin and it’s still able to give me some enjoyment even at its worst (with a few exceptions). Until it truly reaches Zombie Simpson level I’ll still be here.
