Seems like Sony did it again.Funny how their Spider-Man output is either "Really fucking good" or "Horrid laughable dogshit" with absolutely nothing in between.
>>153993830>It's doing everything it can to pretend it's not.WutThis version of Spider-Noir is closer to Spider-Man than the original Noir comics were.
>>153993875Literally the best part of the show you fucking holocaust fetish faggot
I like how he’s both pretty ungraceful and gets beat up a lot, but is clearly super overpowered like Spider-Man is so he just tanks getting beat the fuck up like it’s nothing and walks it off.I also like how he’s willing to kill people wlthough I found it weird he was fine killing like 5 of Silvermanes men just to he could “intimidate” Silvermane and threaten him. Why not just kill the guy there? Don’t tell me it’s morales, you just killed a bunch of other guys who were much less evil
I like how this show doesn't pretend as if the 30s were some egalitarian heaven where everyone was already equal, and shit like that. It makes the thing feel more legitimate.

IIRC the show mentions Ben Reilly is new name taken up by him, does this allude to him originally being named Peter Parker. Also did they not actually name him Peter Parker because of the weird terms Sony & Marvel have for live action Spider-Man shows
>>153988371It was ok. Good script, great cinematography, great acting... except for the lead. Cage dies on his feet as Reilly, coming off as incredibly silly and uninvested when he should be stern and haunted. He brings down every scene he's in which sucks because that's a lot of them.
>>153997873Yeah, Ben Reilly is an alias.
>>153997921They set him up as basically Old Man Spider, which I was fine with considering it suited well with the Noir vibeA younger Spider Noir protag would have been nice but that ship sailed the moment Nic Cage was cast in the Spiderverse movies
>>153997977That isn't really the issueThe script screams for a serious and inscrutable leading man, someone brooding and put-upon dryly using jokes to deflect, but Cage plays him as an aloof and manic and downright goofy madman. Any random schmuck doing a generic noir pastiche could have done better
>>153998032I mean the whole show comes off as a subtle parody of Noir movies and shows
>>153997873I think the unspoken implication wass he changed his civilian alias to Ben Reilly after Ruby died and he stopped being the Spider which kind of makes sense in a mirror way of petter abandoning his life after he left being Spider-Man to the “clone”I doubt they’ll mention his actual name is Peter due to copyright issues or something where it’s worked out with disneycurrently
>>153998032I think he did pretty well especially since it’s hardly a realistic world anyway. That episode where he lashes out while drunk at a bar was kino

See there’s a lot of stuff I think is cool about the show like the suit (except for that stupid fucking hat I hate it so much) and the fact they actually filmed it in black and white not just a filter. Same for the true hue stuff. And that’s it’s going in its own, weird, direction But I just LOVE that original comic so much that I’d watch it going “This isn’t the comics I wish this was a straight adaptation” so I wouldn’t be able to really enjoy it. Cause I’m weird
>>154005266Maybe one day there will be a comic accurate adaptation.
>>154005309I actually wrote out an entire treatment for a comic accurate movie. I'll recycle my post on /tv/.+Cage carries hard, certified cagekino+Gleeson carries too+decent cast in general, (almost) no character is annoying+occasionally interesting cinematography, especially in the second half, where the story and visuals really ramp up+in terms of body horror and violence it goes a bit harder than I expected+spider vs sandman vs not-electro was pretty decent+the did a pretty good job at deaging cage for the flashbacks-BARELY ANY SPIDER IN IT. He doesn't even put the mask on until the end of episode 2 or 3. this is my biggest gripe because for three quarters of the series this wouldn't even need to be about a spiderman-some of the actions scene feel very anemic in terms of choreography and rhythm, and spider vs electrofatso absolutely sucks-sandman looks quite cheap (and overall I don't get what his deal was, pretty schizophrenic character)-the child was the only annoying character (of course), but luckily he doesn't show up too often. not-electro borders on annoyance too. that's the whole joke, but he still objectively talks way too much-I wish there was more spunk in the first half of the series-cage is too old for the role, although this is admittedly partially addressed in the seriesI watched it in color, frankly it doesn't look that great in black and white and the coloring is pretty nice.overall better than I expected, let's say 7/10?
Peni anime when? Her popularity is growing im happy figures of sp//dr exist for the comic, movie and rivals versions, im hoping they make something for tokon but it will be difficult with those floating libs so i hope the next peni has a more normal SP//DR
>>154008336>-BARELY ANY SPIDER IN IT. He doesn't even put the mask on until the end of episode 2 or 3. this is my biggest gripe because for three quarters of the series this wouldn't even need to be about a spidermanThis is actually the one comic book adaptation where I'm fine with it. I'm watching it for Cage and noir-style drama, Spider-Man is more like a cool bonus.
Cage is definitely not too old. If the role demanded him to act big and loud, he could've done it. He voiced Noir in the cartoon, and sounded a lot more energetic there. But this version is supposed to be weary and slow. Every time he gets in a fight, he gets smacked around, and his acrobatics often end with him landing on his ass with zero grace. This is obviously on purpose, they didn't want this Spider-Man to be nimble or fast. He's supposed to be a brute who tanks everything until he can hit back, kinda like Matt Reeves' Batman.
>>154008987What the fuck are you smoking? Slow? Lacking energy?Cage has WAY TOO MUCH energy in this show. His coworkers are playing things smooth and down like a proper noir pastiche while Cage is going "WOOHOO WOOHOO" and bouncing around like Daffy Duck with his mouth full to bursting with the scenery he's chewing. It's absurd and ruins a good chunk of his scenes because it's at odds with the basic through-lines of the script.
Pretty boring.
>>154009308Are you sure you're watching the right show?
>>154009328Anon you might have autism if you think anything about Cage's performance is slow or lacking energy or understated. He isn't taking these shoots seriously at all and his acting clashes so hard with everyone else's that sometimes it feels like he's been edited into a different show.

But at the end of the day, hammy is still hammy, and after eight episodes, it doesn't matter how authentic the ham is, it's still just ham.I can tell I'm watching a good noir piece if, at a certain point, I get this feeling. Almost like chills. Suddenly something becomes "hard boiled" in a way that's easy to spot but hard to recreate. It usually takes a few seasons for cop procedural to have good hard-boiled moments. >>153998032This makes a lot more sends when you get his backstory about having to learn to be a human being again after being bitten and getting infected. He learned how to act like a person by watching movies lol
>>154007018He’s meant to be middle aged and over the hill but closer to 50 than 60. Like 48 I’d guessBut he got his powers like 15-20 years ago in WW1. WW1 ended in 1918. Show takes place at some point in the 1930’s before WW1 and during the depression. Also he hasn’t been the Spider for five years. Giving it up after his fiancé Ruby died in a mob hit
I just skimmed through one episode in colour after watching the whole show in black and white. His website are BLACK. Is it like that in the comics? Looks visually distinct and odd. Even Venom makes white webbing
>>154022511It's a show thing. Looks cool. Some shit ass said because of how unhealthy he is with alcohol and smoking it turned his webs black. Not confirmed but I like the idea
>>154003502Vulture? I thought he was Green Goblin.
>>154021348Reminder most Peni x Noir shippers are asian girls
