Even as a kid I didn't like comic book cross overs.

Batman's Gotham and his villains lose their edge and importance when superman and his villains exist in the same universe.

Spiderman isn't impressive when you also have Iron Man and a literal God (Thor) also protecting NYC.

The worst story for cross overs is the X-Men, how is society loving and accepting towards super heros that have basically the same powers as mutants but still racist towards mutants?

Then you also have the problem of power scaling, street level heroes and thugs get amped up and universal threats get powered down in order to fit the cross over narrative

i can see the last two points, but the first two points aren't really that annoying. shockingly, the real world isn't that different. killers and child predators exist in the same world as disney adults and normalfags - neither suddenly lose their "weight" just because they exist in the same world. killers aren't suddenly "less dangerous" by being compared to the safest people society has to offer. comic book worlds are like that

It's only popular in comics at least. In video games you have like what? Fortnite? Nothing else? I don't even know a cartoon that does such collab.

Sometimes you have one offs like fighting games or like you said, fortnite dlc, but thankfully none of those effect the canon of their respective universes. The problem is that in comic books like DC and Marvel all this stuff is canon in the same universe.

I don't care about "impressiveness" or "importance". The world being bigger than the character I follow is nice to me, and any question about "where was X when Y was happening" can be answered with a simple "they were busy"

>The world being bigger than the character I follow is nice to me
you can accomplish that without crossover slop

Not to the same extent. The shared universe works when talented writers are steered by a competent editorial staff looking at the bigger picture. This has not been the case for quite some time
