I've been reading comics for nearly 3 decades, and honestly, this is the first period where it feels like the Big 2 are entirely hollow. Even during the dark days of ANAD and DCYOU and whatever, there still felt as if there was some sort of progression. Now it's all just a bunch of hodgepodge that goes in circles. DC did a genuine Watchmen crossover, and the consequences were... 0. Darkseid has returned numerous times since Final Crisis. They've even roped the Empty Hand in there for a shitty event. And what did we get? Another shonen event where Superman goes SuperGAWD Mode and the result is... more of the same. Marvel's gone full on in Synergy, to the point where it all feels entirely safe. There's nothing new or interesting. Imperial was supposed to lead to a new Annihilation era and it all flopped. Hulk's had two forgettable runs since Immortal, and is now possessed by some kind of elder demon. Iron Man's doing some Saturday Morning Cartoon stuff. Captain America is the only tie in to the big Summer Event which is like slow synergy to last year's Blacktain FalcMerica. X-Men dropped Krakoa and are now doing the 927957th rehash of the Decimation narrative.

It all just feels meaningless.

Just because you were a hype train victim earlier, doesn't mean this wasn't true before now.

No he's right. The 20s have been completely barren. Comics becoming woke and gay really was the final nail in the coffin
>>
>>153993745
Nobody is reading that TLDR, zoomer kid.
>>
>>153993766
It's been this was since like Identity Crisis and Civil War, you just finally woke up.

Naw there was still good shit coming out back then. It's completely fucking dead now. Trying to appeal to Tumblr and trannies is what really killed off the medium
>>
Did you just wake up from a coma?

We desperately need new talent and writers in the room, if only to get the usual bugbears and bias out and give someone elses bugbears and bias a change.

Just reread the old stuff or look for hidden gems from the early 2000s and back. The big two dropped the ball to a point where it might be unrecoverable. They would have to do a massive, IP-wide reset with new stories, new lore, new backgrounds, and with an actual end point imagined to recover what they lost (and hiring artists that actually can draw).

I think traditional American comics will come back, but probably not for several decades. People aren't against reading. Manga is more popular than ever. They just want cohesive stories with actual endings and beautiful art. No rocket science.

>It all just feels meaningless.
It feels meaningless because it is.

>>153993759
False. Back 15-20 years ago or so comic companies still took continuity relatively seriously, meaning new stories built upon previous stories. Now they just ignore them entirely. The world can explode and be fine the next week. Nothing matters.

It's completely disingenuous to pretend that now is the same as 25 years ago. The entire BENIS Era had a genuine sense of progress between the characters and the stories. Can you really tell me that the Osborn build-up from Marvel Knights Spider-Man to Civil War to Dark Reign, and the way the entire MU looked around that time, is the same as the latest Dark Reign Lite story, where Doom grabs Strange's title in 2 pages, somehow this amps him enough to become Emperor, and that's basically over with no changes? In the 00s Doom becoming Emperor Of The World would've been a line-wide event that'd have been built up over years and lasted as much.

There are 0 consequences and co-operation anymore. Krakoa vs Utopia alone in the sense of scale and in-world workings is a dead set. Hell, even during the era of stunts like Superior or Unworthy Thor, there was still a resemblance of allowing things to play out. Now there's nothing of the sort. There's no experimentation, even gimmicky one.

And it's not like DC's any better. They did a genuine Watchmen crossover, and it amounted to nothing. There's been like 3 Crisis-esque events since then, the latest being a Tournament Arc where SuperGAWD just punches hard. It's all devoid of any meaning. Not even the stories in their own vacuum mean anything.

Even the Tumblr era was better. This is the TikTok MCU Era.

Agreed.

I know, but still, it hurts. I want to support my LCS, and I'm buckbroken enough by nostalgia to give my favourites a chance here and there, so I keep getting disappointed each and every time. I enjoyed McKay's Strange, and then it was over, with Strange now slumming it in Asgard. I found both Cantwell and Ackerman interesting enough, and now Iron Man is basically a cartoon.
>>153995847
Exactly. It's not just that they're repeating the same things, it's that they've become so safe that even gimmicks don't happen anymore.
>>
It's been this way for literal decades.

>>153993745
That's because you're an idiot. Like genuinely double-digit IQ.

>Iron Man's doing some Saturday Morning Cartoon stuff
So you don't want actual superhero stuff?
>>
You must not have been reading X-men if you think this is just a current decade issue.

x-men isn't doing anything, mckay's book is written for 8 year olds and not even in a fun way and every other book is for fat white girls.

I mentioned reading old stuff but forgot about the Absolute Universe stuff. I haven't tried any of it, but being a fan of WW, I've heard it's pretty decent. Can't say much about BM, SM, Flash, GL, and the new shit coming this year. I'd kill for an Absolute Teen Titans.

I remember the silent concession when this dropped.
