Yep it's finally happening, an official Warrior Cats animated series. With former Marvel and Pixar staff working on it.

Ten years late for an adaptation, honestly. Kids these days moved on to TikTok shorts and indie cartoons.

Just in time to happen right alongside its dragon book direct descendant series also getting a show. I don’t think this is coincidental.
>>
>>154001838
Honestly surprised this didn’t happen sooner, but the studio is playing with fire by choosing specifically Warrior Cats and not some generic lookalike. The fanbase is fucking crazy.

>>154001950
Wings of Fire is just Warrior Cats for dragon girls. They’re equally loony, but only now are their fans old enough to actually produce adaptations.
>>
>>154001950
I thought that got Zaslav'd.
>>
>>154001838
I DEVOURED this series from middle school in the early 2010s to covid. I dont any expecations desu I have no clue what sort of direction would be best.
>>
>>154001894
This is what I was wondering. Do kids today still read, or even know about, the Warriors books? Or is this just millennial nostalgia bait?
>>
>>154005196
The fourth book in the ninth Warriors series came out last year with a fifth and sixth book on the way. There are about 50 main books and another 50 side stories, guidebooks, and graphic novels. The series has been a consistent bestseller for 20 years, the huge internet fandom is a tiny fraction of readers, worth the gamble on the investors’ part.
>>
>>154001838
2000s ex-Pixar or 2010s ex-Pixar?

>According to the announcement, the series will adapt Warrior Cats: The Prophecies Begin, the first arc in the long-running saga. Tencent Video plans to debut the series across China and Southeast Asia in 2028.

>Animation production is being handled by Original Force (Ne Zha 2, Tales of Arcadia) on behalf of Tencent Video.

>being made by the Chinese

>remember how violent Ne Zha 2 was

No wonder they got the Chinese to make it. Maybe they won't censor the violence lol

It's honestly wild how long it took considering Ga'Hoole even had an adaptation 10 years back. Maybe for the better that it gets a series now, though, when the generational juggernauts of book adaptations aren't eating up all the screentime. I mean, novels, I guess comic books are books but even those are waning now.
Between Warriors, the Neopets revival, and Dead Space getting a remake continuation, it's almost like someone is trying to soften the blow of us late millennial/early zoomies becoming old fucks
>>
>>154007722
>Neopets revival
did something new happened to neopets apart from the shift to mobile format, or did a bunch of people start playing it again?

According to the people in the warrior cats subreddit, warrior cats is so popular among chinese kids that their kfc did a happy meal for it

The company got bought out from its Chinese holder and made independent again for the first time since 2004, they relaunched their TCG, started fixing the desktop site, launched the first new plot in ages, and are doing a pop up shop in New York as part of rebooting their merch market.

They also technically released another console game but it's just a crappy port of their flash arcade, but that they paid to put a game on console at all is wild, so maybe they'll make an actual game again.

No chance this show is going to play 100% deferential with the story as laid out back in 2003. Warriors after the first book set has mutated and lore’d itself six ways to Sunday with events and expansions all around that orbit those bare bones first books in a vacuum. Warriors has been quipped as being basically a ship of theseus series, that started as anthropomorphizing some cat packs in and around town and has since turned into it’s own kind of fantasy universe. There’s family relations, everyone is related lol. The genealogy autism is a stable of the fandom I think, Way more overt magic, Windclan is a thing, skyclan, dark forest. Scourge’s linkin park bullshit is to popular be clumsily showing up in the last quarter of the show’s arc 1 which I’m assuming is going to be like…maybe 6 to 10 episodes of 40 minutes as the surprise replacement villain who guts the lesser villian.
>>
>>154007986
I mean Scourge has had a lore standalone book for 20 years, and he's Rusty's half-brother. They could easily just throw in either outright episodes for his parallel adventure as a stray or reference him early with Tigerstar's border meetings with the strays.
Also I didn't keep up with the series after the new prophecy, did it ever even matter again than Scourge and Firestar were brothers and didn't know it?
>>
>>154007618
I hope they look like realistic cats like this
>>
>>154001838
Classic move to jump on an IP well after the autistic fanbase that was propping it up has largely moved on.

Also, is the fan made Warrior Cats Animated project on suicide watch or what?
>>
>>154008193
you're delusional if you think characters with that level of detail will be animated.
>>
>>154008208
They got a legal notice like the day it came out that they could keep episode 1 up but could not produce any further episodes because the official series was in development even back then. That's why it never got a follow-up.
>>
>>154008228
they'll do it in 3d
>>
>>154008208
>has largely moved on
not in China it hasn't

>>154008310
Oh, so it will be uncanny “Disney live action” style slop?

How will it compare to the live action version?

I stopped reading right before the dark forest war shit your telling me there’s more?
>>
>>154010800
The same people aren't even writing it anymore. It will go on forever until the day people stop buying it or there stops being an itch for people to write these books.

>>
>>154010800
It's like in the 9th story arc of 6 books, not counting spin offs
>>
>>154001838
Its going to be bad.
>>
>>154001838
The best way they can handle this is only adapting the first arc of books and ignoring everything else

This series is essentially the children's books equivalent of The Simpsons, it's still pumping out new shit and it's barely coherent with where it started.
>>
>>154007986
Unless Bradley is a turbofan I don’t expect anyone on the writing team for the adaptation to have read more than the first book, or og series at most.

Firstly, Warriors isn’t a crunchy final boss of book adaptions, this is a kitty soap drama for preteen girls not fucking Dune. It’d be hard to fuck it up even with just cliff notes to go off.

Secondly It’s 2026 and every IP has a hundred iterations on some guy summarizing the whole setting and story(s) >>154011413 We have Wikis and a number of existing flaws or missed opertunities in the IP are known and will be changed for the better/set up future arc stuff earlier like what the Comic adaptions are doing. Clean up the cat incest ouroboros for example.

Thirdly, this doesn’t feel like a half measure attempt at doing warriors. I wasn’t any more aware that warriors is having a fad moment in china but if they’re really pulling guys from the Ne-zha 2 pool for animators then they’re not playing around.

Also bit of a tangent but isn’t Wings of Fire also using some of the Trollhunters/Arcadia writers?
>>
These books should've been adapted in the 2000's but companies were too busy trying to make failed animeclones and 80's toon revivals.
>>
>>154012398
They probably would've done terribly desu, they hit peak after 2d was dead and early 3d would've looked terrible at low budget. By the time we had the CG for it all the big adaptations were in full swing so it wouldn't have stood a chance releasing during pottermania or the YA post-hunger games boom. Just skipping that entire market cycle sucks for kid me but makes business sense
>>
I remember being really into warriors but I was slowly turned off since the fanbase ironically had to much girls lol I was a teenager who mostly wanted epic fights and the clan hierarchy tickled my tsim until I found things that interested

I remember really liking Jayfeather for being a grouchy asshole and his jock brother lionblaze
>>
>>154012380
It’s just not normal for an adaptation of part 1 to do a deep dive on the implications of every detail for books 7-50 as a matter of course, what I expect is a well crafted and faithful adaptation of the material they’ve actually been hired to adapt
>>
>>154012945
The series kinda does filter out males a lot later it’s really funny
>>
Had no idea this was a thing.

I was a big Jayfeather fan too. What a loveable asshole.

How the fuck do they fight in a British forest, cross a mountain, and end up in America?

Seems like a losing bet. I don't know what the Chinese fandom is like, but the fandom in the west seems extremely autistic and opinionated. If the characters don't look and act precisely how they imagined and the story isn't told precisely how each person thinks it should be told (which will be slightly different from each other), we're going to see a massive Chris-Chan type meltdown.
>>
i wonder if a chinese studio doing this and being released on asian platforms mean we might get more than 8 episodes a season
>>
>>154012380
biggest issue I see with the project
crew is from different regions, meaning all the project discussions are happening remotely in some form, not that this is a bad thing, Tom & Jerry's china movie had US artists on it
Coolabi Productions who have been trying to get this series made for years now since they have the IP have used AI to make concepts for it - hopefully now that an actual anmation studio is on board there will be better work on this
This entire project also entirely hinges on how A.C. Bradley decides to write the series
