It's funny how Family Guy started as a lowbrow Simpsons rip-off and was hated from day one. Now, in the era of constant gratification, Family Guy has thrived, while The Simpsons feels like a relic of the past. Most people don't even know it's still running or what season it's on.
>>154009170Good.
>>154009170>hated from day oneThe wildly popular series that was cancelled on Fox but stayed alive thanks to reruns on Adult Swim and high DVD sales?
>>154009170>was hated from day one.No. It got hated when every characters identity was thrown out the window for lazy jokes.
>>154009170How is that funny, OP?
>>154009170>hated from day one.I was the target demo at the time is was coming out. No it was not niche, it was huge with everyone
>>154009170Family Guy "thrives" now because people clip the cutaway gags and repost them adnauseum as shortform meme content. Frankly I dont think anyone is that invested in either of these shows aside from mentally ill turbospergs who insist the latest season from either series is somehow the return to form we've all been waiting for. Early Family Guy was beloved, it found a cult following just the same way Futurama did. Cancellation was a merciful gift. Everytime these shows were revived it always resulted in some pet cemetary shenanigans. We'd be better off with the bulk of these shows being dead. That includes the likes of south park, american dad, rick and morty, etc.
>>154009170Family Guy is its own thing now, no one thinks of it as a Simpsons ripoff anymore.
This thread is proof that zoomers don't do any research in terms of animation history and just make threads based on their own personal bias and opinons.
>>154009200Of course and that was already from season 3 onwards
>>154009170Nu-Simpsons is doomed to forever live in shadow of classic Simpsons. It's just reality. The Simpsons is a relic, but that is more of a monument to how the golden era genuinely is (and remains) very good. Family Guy does live in the shadow of classic Simpsons to some extent. It's impossible to ignore the chronological context of how The Simpsons defined and set the standards for everything that came after. But at the same time Family Guy recontextualized the formula and became its own thing. Nu-Simpsons lives in the shadow of classic Simpsons way more than Family Guy.
>>154009170These days, I AM starting to worry the younger generation has grown up more familiar with Family Guy's cutaways than they have with classic Simpsons jokes...
>>154009170South Park fans seethe as their precious superior show falls into irrelevance. Well deserved.
>>154010763I don't even think SP fags think that garbage is any superior. They are busy fapping to /cm/ stuff with the characters
>>154010238>but that is more of a monument to how the golden era genuinely is (and remains) very good.It really is a testament to how good Simpsons was that even though everyone pretty much agrees it's been bad for almost 30 years those few amazing years still maintain the show's reputation.
>>154009170>Family Guy has "thrived."Are you from Earth?
>>154009170>its so weird that *poorly reconstructed self-contradictory memory* haha it just goes to show *misanthropic narcissistic self-flattery*
So you guys seem to be under the impression that these Seth MacFarland shows don’t get any play. What uh, makes you think that
>>154009170Not really, Family Guy was more surreal comedy set in a bizarre world while Simpsons is more satirical and set in an offbeat version of America. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Efm3__Sa8I
>>154011881Came to the thread to say basically the same thing. Early Family Guy is firmly rooted in magical realism and that sets it apart.
>>154012090Like what
>>154009170>MAD Magazine Do they still make new issues?
>>154009976What take do you find most egregious then, Mr vagueposter?
>>154012214Mostly just reprints of older material none of which sell either
>>154012210Death's early appearances, for one.
>>154012242That nobody liked or likes Family Guy. I know its easy to make fun of in plenty of circles but the show has always been a powerhouse and even the people in those critical circles end up watching some of the time anyways
>>154009170Is Family Guy thriving? who cares about new episodes of Family Guy in 2026?
>>154010634They have honestly, I remember my local Fox station used to have Simpsons reruns every weekday from 5-6pm so you could always turn on the tv after getting homework done to watch a complete banger. But now I don’t think that the Simpsons in on broadcast tv anymore outside of the new episodes on sundays and with the nature of streaming it’s hard to want to watch it since it’s a fucking tome that most older people tell them to ignore 60% of
>>154012214The new issues are mostly reprints but they've started to put in a new comic or two again
>>154012214It’s owned by Warner oddly enough so you can see the new issues in DC solicits but I think it’s a periodical and not a monthly.
>>154009170unironically the result of zoomers with unsupervised tv/internet access and rose-tinted glasses. it's like how you can go on /v/ and see genuine discussion about call of duty
>>154009170>It's funny how Family Guy started as a lowbrow Simpsons rip-off and was hated from day one.it was not>Now, in the era of constant gratification, Family Guy has thrived, while The Simpsons feels like a relic of the past. Most people don't even know it's still running or what season it's on.that is doubly not true
>>154009170Back when Family Guy started, The Simpsons was shitting on it and hoping it would go the way of Fish Police and Capitol Critters.
I think that if Seth had known that Family Guy was going to run so long he would have made the first few seasons better.I think the joke in the beginning was that “this is just like the Simpsons” but more bizarre.
>>154009170>It's funny how Family Guy started as a lowbrow Simpsons rip-offNo? FG was different all the way from the start, it's why The Simpsons Guy was such a jarring crossover.
>>154013202This is coming from the same show that, by that point, had Homer shit himself in a diaper and get raped by a panda.
>>154010763But it takes up like half of Comedy Central's broadcast time!
>>154013525Is their animated stuff outside of SP any good? The last original I heard of was Chamberlain Heights, but the newest animated original seems to be Digman.
>>154009185/thread
>>154013284>>154013202It's funny how you guys treat a single joke like it's an attack.
>>154013615Fair, making fun of FOX in general is the standard or any of these animated sitcoms.
>>154013564All I know is that from 1:30 AM tonight until like 5:00 PM tomorrow that's the only show that's airing
>>154013701So cable's dead as usual, got it.
It seems today,That all you see,Is violence And moviesAnd sex on TV...
>>154012214not really. I used to have a subscription as a kid. I had the comic in the op
>>154009170Family Guy was only broadly hated from about 2008 - 2014, during the time where the show became mostly aggressive shock humor between poorly-written episodes but before the time where people mostly watched it as clips online isolated from any plot. It absolutely wasn't hated at first and it's not hated today mostly because a lot of people that "like" it haven't actually sat down to watch a modern episode in years.
>>154010763South Park WAS superior. Now it's just a bunch of lame Trump jokes.
>>154012210One of the main characters is literally a talking dog.
