>hated book 3 even when I was a retarded teenager that liked stupid shit>rewatched ATLA recently> Holy shit, books 1 and 2 are peak that stand the test of time>maybe book 3 wasn’t that bad?>the plot comes to a complete standstill as the characters stand around and do nothing. NOTHING>zuko’s redemption didn’t feel earned>barely do anything interesting to show life in an imperialistic fire nation>Aesthetics are garbage: why would women wear crop trops in the fire nation?>series of disconnected self contained stories that do nothing for the plot>these aforementioned self contained stories pretty much unanimously sucked dick and uninspired (le epic prison break! Aztec dragons!)>”character examinations” were all done worse than books 1 and 2 which wove them into the fabric of the story without sacrificing plot>lighter overall tone, much lighter than books 1 and 2, and mind you, this is before the final battle that decides the state of the world>the day of black sun invasion, nothing to elaborate there> full of jokes and self referential humor of the cringiest variety,>check plebbit and the rest of the internet>everyone has book 3 as their favoriteThere are good things. I loved the ending. It’s less that it’s awful on its own but awful when stood up next to books 1 and 2.What the fuck
>zuko’s redemption didn’t feel earnedThey dedicate several episodes to him earning everyone's trust one at a time.>barely do anything interesting to show life in an imperialistic fire nationAang goes to school, makes an illegal party. There was that whole village that the fire nation was mooching off of with everyone starving to death....There was that festival...
B3 had a tone shift for sure. And they went from constantly going to new places to being stuck in just a few.
>>154012081It'a funny how Legend of Korra inherits Book 3's flaws and made it worse.
>>154012081>>everyone has book 3 as their favoriteFucking what, the consensus I've seen is that Book 3 is the weakest even by total normalfags.
>>154012381Reddit loves Book 3 and any posts criticizing it would get downvoted to oblivion."It's not filler! You just don't get character development"
Book 2 =/= Book 3 > Book 1Zuko was really the only draw for most. Seeing a pompous royal be fumbled and turn into a redeemable scoundrel. Literally the best character arc in all of modern fiction.
>>154013335>Literally the best character arc in all of modern fiction.Come on now, watch more and read more books.
>>154013405>Come on now, watch more and read more books.>reading booksanon...
>>154013417Yes? Anything wrong with what I've said? There was plenty of media made after 00s with good character writing. That statement would be more accurate if you replaced "modern fiction" with "western animation"
>>154012081YES YES YES - OP you basically put ALL my points down right there... book 1 is VASTLY better than book 3, even if on the surface it's too slow and childish at times. It has spiritual depth that frankly even book 2 lacks, though book 2 makes up for it in storytelling the type of stuff we got about the Spirit World, or frankly even the episode with Roku's island... just never happened again.Well actually there is one more point, perhaps the biggest one: the PLOT made zero sense so many times. WHY did Aang suddenly get angst about what he had to do in the finale, not the invasion? Why did Sokka and Zuko go to the Boiling Rock alone - a non-bender and the MOST WANTED of the Fire Nation? Why send 2 non-benders and a BLIND girl to take out a fleet of ships in the AIR? Why do people whine so much more about energybending than the MAGIC CHAKRA ROCK WHICH GAVE AANG THE WIN CONDITION?Most "fans" just don't get it though, because this is deep analysis and the vast majority are just like I LIKE THE COOL STUFF BRO. >>154012081Book 2 was good until the finale, contrived dogshit. Book 3 really feels like proto-Korra at times; if you watch AtlA and TLoK back to back you'll see what I mean.
