First time comic reader, figured I'd start with Batman since I like him in non-comic stuff. Went with The Long Halloween since it gets praised a lot.Read the whole thing and it was extremely disappointing. Joker, Ivy, Catwoman, Grundy, Calendar Man, Scarecrow, etc. are all completely useless to the plot and just serve as canon fodder for Batman to beat up whenever they randomly appear. I didn't buy Harvey Dent's transition. He gets acid thrown on his face and then instantly turns psychotic and sides with the supervillains. His "snap" moment with no longer trusting the justice system was because... he couldn't randomly pin the blame on Bruce Wayne like a scumbag? It's completely retarded. Batman is barely a character. He doesn't stop anything or solve anything. The events play out regardless of his involvement. The "mystery" is "solved" entirely without his input.Gilda Dent. Bullshit. The Long Halloween is an incredibly dumb story with good art. Just read Year One, The Killing Joke, and Dark Knight Returns, those are the three best stand-alone Batman stories.

She immediately robs Falcone, which wasn't just about money, and she relays information to Batman (contradicts "The events play out regardless of his involvement") about a warehouse filled with money that he goes to with Harvey and Harvey sets the money on fire. She also has ties to Falcone that likely get expanded on in the other Long Halloween related titles.>He gets acid thrown on his face and then instantly turns psychotic and sides with the supervillainsI would actually need to reread the Long Halloween past issue 1 but Harvey is an obvious suspect as a Holiday killer from the start and gets scolded for approving of the first murder in front of Gordon. Acid to the face wouldn't even be the first PTSD style event since he and Gilda get bombed by gangsters and hospitalized. Small gun is a clue or red herring to get you to suspect the killer is a woman.
