So evidently the voice of Frylock is losing his home, and this just kind of reminds me how badly Adult Swim treats the people that helped it become what it is today. The voice of Zorak, Moltar, Dr.Weird, and several others died of sepsis because he couldn't afford the hospital bill, The voice of Brak makes ends meet as an amazon delivery driver.
>>154026393What do you expect them to do? Put a roof over the heads of everybody who's ever worked for them?
>>154026393I mean, that sucks, but what exactly is Adult Swim expected to do? He did his job and now it's over. Why should Adult Swim be responsible for him keeping himself afloat once they've parted ways? Even if he were still employed there, since when is it your employer's job to keep you from being homeless?
>>154026393Fuck you mean you got not credit?
>>154026429>>154026435You could keep giving him voice roles.
>>154026393He's a voice actor, dude. It's on him to find work, Adult Swim doesn't owe him anything other than the money they paid him to do Frylock's voice.Same with Clay Martin Croker - Adult Swim paid him to do his job, voice acting is gig work unless you're part of a union, so you're supposed to figure out insurance and medical bills on your own.You can't blame Adult Swim for a voice actors personal issues.
>>154026547He's not a particularly outstanding voice actor lile Dana Snyder. Doesn't really seem like he has range (tbf neither does Snyder but again his one voice is just way funnier) and there aren't a lot of shows that demand a basic black guy voice.
>>154026393He’s 60 and the show ended 24 years ago. He didn’t start a different career after it became clear VA work wouldn’t work?
>>154026393Adult Swim is a low paying nothing role for almost everyone involved. Anyone they hired for any gig was paid significantly less than any other studio, and only for bit parts on a late night nothing channel that the parent company cannot give a fuck about because ti is the polar opposite of prestige for the company. No one at Warner is ever going to give a fuck about anyone attached to a late night rerun channel and consider those employees part time minimum wagers at best.
>>154026557It's definitely not routine regular work in Atlanta of all places. There is barely anything for a voice actor out there. At best Atlanta is where the technical production is done, not where they hire actors for anything. This guy was actually the channel announcer for Cartoon Network bumpers back in the 90s. Frylock voice stuff was a fun little extra he got to do for a while.
>>154026637Snyder was in the exact same boat for about 10 years until he was picked up for Chowder. and he mostly gets roles due to how cartoonish his voice can be. He still had to do some awkward shit over the years. But he had to land a breakout role in a daytime show on the more popular channel to finally get somewhere. A decade after he was doing Adult Swim stuff.
>>154026637I disagree, his delivered and comedic timing is great. He also did Thubderckeeese. There’s absolutely times that would suit him if people tailor roles to H Jon Benjamin
>>154026393Again?
>>154026547The problem there is that the guys in charge of the main early AS series died/moved on so the actors had no connections to help them keep getting roles. By 2008 or so most of the old guard was out and AS was hiring new talent with no connection with the guys who were there in 2001. Anyone not also moving over to Floyd County was doomed to lose it all and find work outside tv at that point.
>if you voice someone in a cartoon once you should not have to work for the rest of your life
I wouldnt mind seeing frylock in rick and morty
>>154026393Frylock is the boring one though. Even Meatwad got more zingers
>>154026393I genuinely don't understand how AS is in any way or form responsible for the fate of a VA that did work for them 20 years ago.
>>154027260The straight man/comedic foil is an important role to have.
>>154027300They aren't responsible, but they could garner a decent chunk of good PR for essentially pennies to them by tossing him like, $2k.If they didn't just want to give him some money with no attachments, just frame it as a pay advance and have him do like, half dozen lines for some bumps.
>>154026393He should become an Amazon driver along with Merrill.
job market is shit so what do you expect to do
>>154027369I hate to by a cynic, but I'm fairly confident the number of people who care about this matter, let alone care enough to financially help him out, is likely less than 100. AS has no real incentive to pretend to care.
>>154026393Yeah, this is the same story for more than half the people who used to work in the entertainment industry pre 2022. Lots and lots of writers, directors, storyboarders, animators, producers, and background artists are equally out of work and losing their homes from long term unemployment in their fields. It's not just the voice actors. And this is not even toughing on the amount of tech and game dev company workers that have been laid off in the last three years. Entertainment media is not really a valid career field any longer for anyone that is not already comfortably wealthy and can go 2-3 year lengths of time between employment.
