As I got into the comics I sought out the issues and stories that he was involved in, even that alternate dimension one where he succeeded in his “turn everyone in Florida into lizard people” plan, and then ironically reverted to human form after a few years, trapped with his creations.

They are dead or dying and his "cure" that was once a simple selfish one of his past is him attempting to use his genetic engineering(or whatever pseudo science) to use lizard DNA to recreate body parts. His arm loss is a trigger for losing his family not just him feeling bad for not being able to enter a clapping contest.His mutation goes out of control and he becomes the lizard his primal instincts and cold nature take over and Dr.Connors is lost. What's worse, he doesn't want to go back to being connors.The anon saying he should mirror spiderman is right. He is escaping reality into his lizard persona and his mutation is taking over. He's lost who he is. I would have made this a side story of the peter parker no more + spiderman/black cat romance timeline. Be a trigger to him giving up being spiderman 24/7.

They are simple A-B cool characters that do exactly what it says on tin. They just work. Venom is always going to be Eddie Brock in every single piece of popular media you can name. Only in Marvel Comics do they keep playing musical hosts with venom and diluted and poisoned the symbiote concept so much that it's lost any gravitas.The last symbiote that should have been created was Carnage and that was only to be an occasional one off "Shit just got real" villain.

Gobby's rich and powerful as Osborn, but he chooses to dress up as a Goblin and terrorize Spider-Man for no reason other than it's fun. if Spidey's story is about maturing and growing into adulthood, slowly becoming more responsible, Osborn's the opposite - he's an adult who, at face-value, seems like a stern and serious businessman who is actually incredibly immature and irresponsible, whose hobbies involve ruining Spider-Man's life

The main problems are justifying repeat appearances of Lizard and how there is a tendency for the same solution. Dr. Connors is a solid character and Lizard looks cool.
