Doug was a very groundbreaking cartoon for being the most normal cartoon. It was remarkable for how unremarkable it was. It had its cartoony stuff with the imagination sequences, but it was the most grounded in reality cartoon in 1991.
>>154036741Doug was a bikecuck before it was cool.
>>154036741Doug was great because despite Roger being the primary main antagonist he was still "friendly" for like half the series.>was appreciative of Doug not exposing his fear of snakes>threw Doug a surprise party for his 1 year anniversary moving to Bluffington>tagged along with Doug at the amusement park >helped Doug with Bone's nephew >trusted Doug to watch his cat>went to Patti's dinner party >wanted Dougs help to bang Judy>destroyed Dougs embarrassing tape from the tv show (admittedly this was mutually assured destruction since Doug had his tape)>Doug and him helping each other being afraid of what will happen after graduatingProbably more but can't think off the top of my head.
>Doug, please, I didn't mean any of it. Do you want me to suck your dick? I'll suck your dick. You want me to eat shit? I'll eat your shit.
>>154036741Anons mostly jerk off to Ren and Stimpy here, but what I appreciate was the sheer variety of art styles early Nicketoons had.R&S, Doug, Rugrats. I don't think there was ever this much variety at once in no other moment in time of place, except for obviously experimental shorts and stuff.
>>154036741I did enjoy the juxtaposition of being relatively grounded with such off the wall music, sound effects, skin colors...>>154037320Roger is a classic example of that trashy kid that wants to be friendly but has no fucking idea how, because his dad abandoned the family. He also either cannot read the room for shit, or doesn't care and just thinks eventually people will come around. One assumes his dad used to say things like "You're crying, but this is gonna make you tougher, you need it" a lot while he was still around.
>>154037734Sesame Street regularly hosted animated segments (not full shows) with a variety of unique art styles.
So a Slice of life.

>>154038637Disney came along and said fuck you to the tone.It became a gross Disney product and had all of that gross early disney meddling that killed the show.
