With an official animated version by Jerry Bruckheimer coming out in the next few years, and many fan animatics out of it, what's our opinion of EPIC: The Musical?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lun_OMdNi4QNeal has the best animatics, followed by Gigi
>>154041338Tfw Circe hates men but is super hot...
Why does Ody's crew keep pushing him to become a monster, and then get upset when he does and wins? Are they stupid?
>>154041338It has a very adult Disney feel to it
>>154041713>Are they stupid?Yes, nigga, yes. They are idiots. They don't have to make the choices that Ody makes, they just act like spoiled little shits and get mad whenever he does something that won't immediately benefit all of them. He sacrifices six random men to Scylla, and they immediately stage a fucking mutiny despite his method of choosing was the fairest possible (since straight up telling them six men would die would guarantee infighting). The only real mistake Ody made was boasting to Polyphemus, which was an incredibly idiotic thing to do, but considering he had no way of knowing that the cyclops was related to Poseidon it hardly seems fair to blame Odysseus for the ensuing carnage.
So is the moral of the story to not have mercy and kill?
>>154041338It would be hilarious if all the animatics got copyright strikes when the movie becomes an actual thing, wouldn’t surprise me if their legal team also tried to go after any other odyssey adaptation on the internet just because they could
>>154043568Puerto Rico is a very brutal place anon

>>154053620Keep in mind Greek gods aren't omnipotent and even in old myths humans could wound and defeat them if they were really skilled. Maybe not kill but you could wound their pride
>>154053829Poseidon is a direct son of chronos though, alongside Zeus, which puts him on a completely different power level than the next generation of gods. Aphrodite and Ares don’t match up to them and the only reason Diomedes managed to hit them was because Athena was directly helping him (and the musical does not canonically confirm if Odysseus had any gods helping him). There were a few instances where Hercules fought them but that was fucking Hercules, he was the exception to every rule.

>>154041338Liked it a lot. Cried like a bitch at the end. I think the repeating musical motiffs are a cool way to stablish themes and concepts. Like how Penelope's theme plays briefly when Ody is being seduced by circe. Likewise, i expected it to be pure tumblr estrogen stuff. But the middle act and end really proved my wrong. With all Ody had to sacrifice and how he had to get ruthless. Overall wonderful experience and i look forward to the professionally animated version, even if i'm really satisfied with the cut i saw.
It's impressive this didn't end with a "Penelope moved on/doesn't recognize Ody as her husband anymore/can't forgive him/etc" ending that had to have taken restraint

>>154041713The whole conflict between Odysseus and Eurylochus with the mutiny is even worse when you realize they aren’t just friends: Eurylochus was married to Ody’s sister, so him just giving up on going home is disrespecting his captains own sister too. Hard to feel bad for his line “But we’ll die.” When he brought it on himself with that shit.
>>154061344Also maybe he shouldn't of OPENED THE FUCKING BAG
>>154047589Gigi’s Circe is just insanely hot to me.
I recently read an old illustrated version of The Odyssey that tried to be accessible to young readers but still touch on a lot of it. Then I got into watching Epic animatics.I do like some of the story choices Epic makes converting The Odyssey into a musical, it does a pretty good job taking Odysseus’s war traumas and picking that as a major focus and motivator. But then there’s whole chapters that I had really liked in the written version that the musical just skips. In the first couple of sagas it leaves this impression that they’re gonna have a song focusing on all kinds of relatively minor scenes that a lot of abridgments and adaptations wouldn’t include, but that peters out by the last sagas. And it’s a little disappointing.
>>154060458Why not both?

>>154061344Same with the rest of the crew. I adore the animatics that show the crew getting upset at Odysseus, like he's somehow in the wrong choosing himself over the assholes who mutinied against their captain and king, who's primary plan seemed to be "sail around aimlessly until we die since going home is impossible".
>women animators portray rapist character as dark-skinned, edgy and kinda sexy>chad fnaf animator turns them into a puppet and is somehow more intimating.why are foids like this?
>>154041338Do we know which animation? 2d I hopeI discovered Epic last year and it was fucking amazing. Still listen to it to this dayI do not like the race swaps tho. Doesn't make sense for blacks to be gods. I could see why the fandom is extremely racist to certain characters

>>154058690Are you referring to the game, Stray Gods: the roleplaying musical on Steam?
>>154062772Honestly, of all of these, I think Ares is the only one that really seems out of place. (And another anon pointed out but it's not the best look to pick him of all gods to make black)
>>154062772If an autistic lonely black girl (goddess) decided she loved you and wanted to spend forever on a tropical paradise island with you, would you really turn her down?
>>154062772And the fanbase keeps saying Calypso is the worst villain of all, worse than white Zeus. But obviously, it's because she's black in the canon animations. It's an odd oxymoron. One side wants to be victims for blacks. The otherside outright hates blacks. You can't win
I'd say in the adaption, keep the original singers, but they all have to be white in the visuals. Make one of the antagonists blonde, and not just all have black hair
Calypso can be black but only because of Pirates of the Caribbean, the reference makes it OK

The creator of this (Jorge) gives off youth pastor vibes in all his TikTok videos. I don’t buy that someone who would make a musical where the mc commits infanticide in the second song could actually be this wholesome
>>154058690That was from the Wonder Woman movie, anon. If the Ares from actual Greek mythology tried to do that, Zeus would immediately zap his ass with lightning and Athena would finish him off (not in a sexual manner however as she is as virgin goddesss)

>>154059382The creator wouldn’t have done that to his Overpowered OC
>>154058690Greek mythology has no definitive “end” like how Norse mythology had Ragnarok. The closest thing to an end is the Trojan war since the idea is that all these heroes got killed off during the war and gods became less directly involved in mortals lives afterwards
>>154064276I don’t trust Puerto Ricans man
>>154062683Atleast they’re vaguely aware that Hamilton was a real historical figure. There’s a contingent of the epic fanbase that doesn’t know about Homer’s Odyssey and think the creator made up the entire premise
>>154052544Whatever Penelope does while Odysseus gone is none of his business.
>>154046970Ironic considering superheroes are inspired by greek gods and western mythos in general. You're basically mad at greek gods for looking like how greeks imagined greeks god to look like lmfao
>>154059382I remember during the lead-up to the Ithaca saga's release there was genuine concern the story would end that way. There were a lot of people arguing that the story would benefit from Penelope not taking Odysseus back, that the Odyssey was best served as a straight tragedy to emphasize the cost of Odysseus becoming a monster and that the cost of returning home was to lose everyone and everything. They also argued that Odysseus was probably going to accidentally kill Telemachus during his slaughter of the suitors, thus adding to his wife coming to hate him.I am very, very glad Jorge went with the straightforward happy ending. Foregoing another shitty subversion and instead ending the story with "I love you" was a genuine breath of fresh air.
>Penelope was the daughter of a Spartan king and a naiadSuddenly 108 dudes willing to wait years to try and marry her makes sense, they all want spartan muscle mommy.
>>154054232Yeah I didn’t really like that part of the musical. I have a hard time believing that a dude that spent some of his formative years in his father’s stomach would say uncle after getting stabbed for like two minutes by a guy that was already half dead.
>>154064216You don't have to be a pedophile to reuse elements of murder from the source material they are adapting
>>154066124It kind off make sense since the gods are basically children with no leash. They have never been told no before and believe no one stop them.
>>154066124I mean there's zero basis for it but I always liked to imagine that moment is when Hades decides to help. I hadn't watched any of the animatics for 600 Strike when I first listened to it so I wasn't aware of the whole "power of anime wind bag jetpack" thing, I thought the chorus was literally the souls of the 600 men coming to help Ody kick Poseidon's ass, empowered by Hades in retribution for the whole "I'll drown all of Ithaca" threat (and because helping a mortal beat the shit out of your sibling is funny).
>>154068885Yknow, until an official animation is completed, I think maybe I’ll adopt this headcanon.

>>154053620It’s honestly really fucking cringe. No offense but Jorge doesn’t seem like someone who could even pull a 120 pound bow, which would have been the standard back then.
I’m surprised we’re not getting an entire wave of ai generated animatics.
>>154058584Did Wringers as we know them in a modern sense exist in the Bronze Age? Would that figure of speech even make sense in that time?
>>154072394This is easily my favorite interpretation of Penelope. While almost all the animatics do well with her (outside that one animator who made Penelope fat with vitiligo for some unfathomable reason), having Penelope both show her age AND reflect her Spartan upbringing with defined musculature is perfect. She is visibly equal parts strong and graceful, and I can absolutely see why Odysseus would spend twenty years trying to get back to her.

What's the best villain song from this musical? I feel like it has a lot of contenders, which is a godsend since the modern musical era has had a severe lack of villain musicals. Look at the last one we got from Disney.

>>154074090>penteconterThose weren't used for the Odyssey either
>>154074945They weren't used during the real world bronze age but Homer's audience would have imagined Odysseus's ship to be something closer resembling something in their time. This vase painting of Odysseus on his ship resembles something closer to a penteconter or a triremes, neither of which existed in the bronze age.
